Preseason Finale – San Dawg City Limits

Here we are, 11 days before the real thing, and 22 players away from our final roster. And stop me if you[ve heard this before, but the O line seems unsettled. Devens, our RG picked up from NE seems to have put himself into the roster based on practices, because he didn’t leave a lot of film on game days.

We’ll let that go, but my issue is still with Eric Pears and his lack of ability. He has graded out miserably, yet they seem to be sticking to their guns with this guy. Maybe they are hoping for a surprise cut come September 5th, but this usually isn’t how Baalke rolls.

As this is the 4th preseason game, there may not be a lot to look for, other than the turf conditions, and the defensive backfield play. Ken Acker has risen to the top of the heap pretty quickly, but Tramaine Brock remains a mystery as Jim Tomsula channeled his predecessor by saying,”We’re not going to talk as in-depth there.”

Brock tweaked his hammy at some point in the joint practices with Denver last week, and hasn’t been seen on the field since. Behind him we have Keith Reaser, who has shown some good and some bad. Dontae Johnson, forced into a starting role as a rookie last year due to injuries, has been solid, if not spectacular. Jimmie Ward is battling injuries himself, and Shareece Wright has been relegated to backup status.

Kind of a mixed bag there. Brock is very good when healthy. He needs to GET healthy. He won’t be out there. Other than the giant suckhole that was the offseason, at least we have dodged the injury bug. Let’s hope this continues. Ahmad Brooks’ status remains a mystery as well as his buddy RayMac appears to have thrown him under the bus trying to defend himself. Boys boys boys . . .

Buewwit pines for interaction from me. How cute.

Another similarity between Mooch and Harbaugh? 0 Super Bowl wins.

Again, the situation around Mooch and the Niners was similar in that the team was successful under Mooch, but they were aging and in cap hell. But you dumb it down to ONLY the coach being the issue. L

As usual, simplistic and idiotic. Could Mooch have stopped the exodus of players due to Clark and Policy’s ill-fated FA decisions? No, you brain-dead twit. If Mooch stays, the team still craters due to the poor decisions made earlier by Policy, Clark (who famously said that Walsh’s days as a talent evaluator had passed him by) and his successor Terry Donohue. This team is in a similar situation. Mass exodus due to retirements and defections. Harbaugh can’t heal the sick, contrary to popular belief. Or rehabilitate criminals.

I’m done schooling you, moron. Figure shit out yourself you fucking half-wit.

Couldn’t wait for the season to start and now can’t wait for PS to be done. tonight’s game has all the thrills and expectations of a bowl of tapioca pudding. The only significant thing that might come out of it is an injury or two.

Brady’s suspension overturned. Goodie Goodell’s tenure as Commish is on a downward spiral. Couldn’t happen to a better tool. Fuck Goodell and his overbearing ways.

No love for Tom Brady (go Padres!) but Goodell thinks he can withhold evidence and skew the findings is way overstepping his boundaries in his desperate need to punish one of the league’s most popular players. Goodell is an asshole.

Brady still looks like a cheating whiner, but the NFL comes off like jackbooted thugs trying to prove they are bigger than the people who play and watch the game.

A friend wrote this on twitter:

“God, I hope Brady scores on a sneak during the opener and pantomimes letting air out of the football.”

    Too funny.

    • Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

I hope the NFL doesn’t appeal this decision. Everyone needs to get this issue behind them. Play football!

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Bullit. You are an amazing troll. You have surpassed V as the biggest idiot in blogging history. Yay!!! Long live the troll!

Mooch would have saved the Niners!!! With Tim Rattay at QB! God. How many times were you dropped on your head as a child? I’d say the over/under is 20.

What happened in 2003, Buwwit? Mooch and Garcia teamed up to go 7-9 as the team beginning to disintegrate due to Policy and Clark mortgaging the future a couple years before.

What’s funny is those idiots in Bubble-land don’t call you out on your infantile posts. Although NoFear corrects Buwwit’s stupid ways once in a while.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The NFL (Goodell) said it would appeal but not ask for a stay in the suspension.

They look worse and worse in all this esp. with all the other shit that came to light regarding the bounty scandal and al his rulings being overturned.

Here’s to the end of the Goodell Regime.

    Game tonight !
I hope they play a lot of Devey and Trent Brown. IMHO that should be our right side

    • rob's avatar rob says:

Don’t like the pats either CHUCK but seeing that asshole goodell put down has me smiling from ear to ear right now

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Pears is pretty much a disaster. They need a better option. Brown can’t be worse.

  8. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Who was the one who said Jed needs to grow a pair? I forget who it was but wouldn’t you know, he did. He’s our right tackle!

Pray and the Lord will provide. Too bad good lawyers can’t help the Niners O line.

    Once more with feeling ROB!!!!!

  12. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Tebow did it again, even the announcer noted it. Blah. so-so, that was ugly, blah, ooo that was nice, ooo so was that. Touchdown! Neither Barkley nor Tebow has earned a spot from this game, but Barkley’s INT looked awful and he couldn’t get in the EZ. Tebow won the first half battle of the backups.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

      Tebow passer rating 129.2. LOL

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Brian Billick said he’d just keep two QBs and grab an extra linebacker. Another guy noted Barkley could go to the practice squad – he didn’t point out that Barkley’d have to clear waivers.

This decision could go any way. Tebow would still give the 2 pt option and 2:00 warning desperation option. Barkley would just be extra insurance if/when Bradford gets creamed.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

This screws up the evaluation. Barkley and Tebow were to have 1 qtr each in the second half, same as the first. But the Jets come off firing and hog the ball for over 9 minutes, about the longest drive I’ve seen in a long while.
The Eagles run defense has looked bad all night. Either they’re sitting starters, or the Jets found a weakness others will pounce on.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

INT by Tebow on 4th and 15. Bummer, after a good play action deep ball got things goin’. My guess is that Barkley wins the 3rd job as the incumbent backup (LOL, took me a minute to come up with that one). Or, just Bradford and Sanchez.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Tebow Touchdown on the wobblest pass in the history of the game! LOL

  13. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I see that Harbaugh has dumped the system of calling two plays in the huddle at Michigan. I wish he would have done that last year. Actually, it did look like he dumped that system in game 15 and 16.

  14. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

“Dontae Johnson, forced into a starting role as a rookie last year due to injuries, has been solid, if not spectacular.

Really? All I saw last week was him getting his ass kicked all game by that slot receiver. Reaser also looked average at best. Acker I liked, but the continuing drama that is Tramaine Brock and a still-unproven Jimmie Ward is adding further uncertainty to the secondary picture. I’ll be keeping an eye on those guys tonight.

I agree about Pears. He looked like ass last week, all fucking preseason really, and currently stands as the 49er’s very own version of goddamn Ehire Adrianza. The dude is 33 and should do all Niner fans a favor and retire. What I don’t understand is that with a dearth of apparent replacements available for the o-line, one, why didn’t they resign Iupati and, two, why not bring in some free agents for a look? They couldn’t have foreseen Anthony Davis pussing out, but they have to have known that Pears and Devens are nothing more than meatballs. Everyone else does.

If either one of those bozos is allowed to see extended playing time this year, Kaepernick is going to get killed.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

A good point regarding what I said about the earlier demise of the Niners. Too bad it makes MY point even more valid about Mooch getting fired.

Bullit thinks the only reason the Niners went from 10-6 to 7-9 was because Mooch was fired. I think losing Garcia as one of many cap casualties, as was my point, was a bigger determining factor. Erickson was no great shakes, but Tim Rattay?

Get a fucking clue you moron.

    Nice slant.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Elliington is looking good. Nice play, BTW. Quick hitter.

    Purcell with penetration.

  17. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hayne with the yard-saving pick up.

  18. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

It’s nice to finally see Ellington get a chance to show his speed. The kid has wheels. Get him the ball more. The o-line is off to the expected crappy start.

  19. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wish I could answer your questions, John, The line was a concern before Davis left. That being said, Iupati was not a good pass blocker, and we are changing to a zone blocking scheme.

As to why we didn’t look at more guys I have no idea. I keep hoping someone will popup on the cut line, but we’ll see. I can’t believe they think this is the answer. The D backfield? Johnson has played well more often than not. Again though as you said, Brock is a question til he actually plays.

J- Eddie on a WR isn’t a look I want to see again.

  20. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Evan Mathis being the obvious guy.

Great. Simpson’s hurt. He’s got time to heal up though.

  23. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah 6 games off gives Simpson plenty of time to get healed and in trouble…

Line looks better than last week. Not hugely great, but a little better than last week.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Yeah but as you say, hard to gauge against the Walmart brigade. 10 days till Vikings should settle it down a bit.

Hunter is looking to go down before solid contact.
CB Johnson played well at corner but was toasted in the slot. Not quick enough.

Hayne cementing his spot on the 53, good punt from Pinion.
