Well, this time around, better quiet than turmoil. Last year at this time, rumors were flying about our dear departed head coach, the fact that Harbaugh was nearly traded, the coach didn’t talk to the GM, on and on.
All we have this year is the snickering from the so-called cognoscenti (and blognoscenti) about how the team has no chance, the coach is a goober, a snitch, and a yes man for the FO , the OC is an inexperienced neophyte, and the team is old and lousy due to defections.
Well, the team is getting a little long in the tooth, but they did get younger at RB and DL. Right? The point being, this team appears to have gone through a lot of turmoil and is quietly going about its business while the sports world is hell-bent on dumping on the team. Tomsula did the hee-haw crowd a favor by having an uninspiring presser to start his tenure, because as we all know, good pressers mean good coaching. It was all a prefect storm of innuendo and snickering by the hoi polloi of the ESPN crowd, quickly followed by the local media. It became de riguer to dump on the team.
The swirl of doomerism is slowing down. Mainly because you can’t keep beating that horse and expecting people to keep listening. The team is starting OTAs and exciting nothingness happens while people are starting to ask questions around VD and his effectiveness and who will the cornerbacks be among the young crop of guys rather than why Jed is the anitchrist who dethroned the greatest coach in Niner history, St. Jim the Penultimate.
Either way, none of this shit will matter until they start playing for real in September. It’s all talk. Who knows? Maybe they’ll be a good team.
This just in: Colin Kaepernick still stinks on ice and will continue to do so throughout the remainder of his NFL career. Which, btw, the length is growing shorter than Peter Dinklage day by day.
And for those of you people who still prefer Kap > Russell Wilson?
This team isn’t going to win it’s 6th Lombardi trophy until it has a HOF QB under center like it did when they when won their first five.
Colin Kaepernick is not a HOF QB. Not now, nor will he ever be one.
You people can bitch and moan about the lack of coaching and/or ownership until the cows come home. That doesn’t change our QB situation.
With very few exceptions, Russell Wilson being the lone one, the last 26 winning SB QB’s were both classic drop-back passers AND Caucasian.
Colin Kaepernick is neither. We need a new fucking quarterback.
Tomsula actually said that the Niners had been preparing for Davis’ departure. Apparently by that he means a 7th round pick getting all the reps at RT in OTAs.
A 7th round rookie is scheduled to replace the 11th OVERALL pick of the 2010 draft who had been a starter ever since.
Hahahahahahaha…
Reno, I think you lost your award.
Boone, Pears, at least we know we’ll have a warm body at RT, although that’s looking iffier by the day.
We had 20 or more players on IR last year, we’ve had many starters and leaders retire this off season, it was uncanny how many players we had calling out our schemes last year and one who said he wanted to kick the coaches ass. Do the math. A fan would need to be very naïve to not see a pattern. The head coach was about to go down in flames. Players were checking out in masses. It’s a good thing Jed saw it and acted appropriately.
Any of you guys got season tickets? I know I don’t.
s. This a definitely going to be an interesting year.
The killer to me was how bad this team was at picking up simple stunts and motion before the snap. Sure injuries and holdouts took their toll, but the line play was flat awful. Will zone blocking help? I should merely for getting guys in motion rather than just blocking air moving in one direction.
It was mostly the schemes implemented by the coaching staff.
Well, I guess I know why we drafted a punter in the 5th round.
Andy Lee was just traded to the Browns for a 7th round pick.
The push to younger moves on.
Get young! New faces all around. What will Spit, Bullit, Rex do? I can hear the wailing blog from here!
They spent a 5th rounder and got a 7th to get a decade younger at punter. That’s OK, if he’s as good as Lee. If he’s not, then spending a current 5th on a punter and getting rid of Lee looks dumb to me…
It’s a risk. Lee was declining but still a high level Punter. MVP during the Harbaugh years. Maybe they figure they can actually advance the ball and not rely on a great Punter and D?
I’d love to stay and discuss the new and fascinating vagaries regarding our punting situation, but I have to go and “work” the Pinole wine tasting event. Can you believe they’re employing someone like myself to work a wine tasting event?
Bye bye profit margin.
LOL!
BTW, American Pharoah wins for fun and become the 12th Triple Crown winner.
Or maybe he just takes a gigantic dump. I dunno. That’s why they run these fucking races.
He’s a single on ALL of my tickets. Best of luck to him. I’d wish myself luck but it’d be a waste of breath.
Anthony Davis just kicked us in the teeth.
What the eff is that all about?
I know he got his bell rung pretty badly last year vs the NYG, could it have been that severe to scare him into retirement?
Can’t figure this out for the life of me.
Again I ask, did they desecrate a burial ground in Santa Clara?
NJ- there are bones all over the Bay Area. They find them often. Lot’s of life has rolled through there the past 20,000 years.
Winder I’m not surprised.
Given the number of injuries, retirements and, Coaching changes involved since the move to Santa Clara took place, I’m thinking we pissed off the Gods in some major way.
This stuff is getting stranger by the week.
I’m not gonna go there yet. Seems more to me that some of our players got beat up over the years and it’s caught up with them this year. If the player doesn’t have the heart to play or the physical ability it’s probably a good idea to get out.
I agree Winder, guys gotta want it in this game.
But, our mass exodus leaves me scratching my head, as to why so many in this short a span?
Patrick dealing with a toe injury makes sense, if he’s feeling he’s not the same.
Borland?
Why enter the NFL for 1 season and change direction?
Anthony?
Wait until June?
I recall reading that Anthony was blindsided in NJ last year, during the waning moments vs the NYG, and took some time to come around.
For a 300LB guy to feel his health is compromised, fine, why wait until June?
Could they have asked him to restructure his Contract?
Who’s to know at this point?
I just find the timing to be quite curious.
How come no other teams have this rash of preventative retirements?
That’s what I’m asking RT?
Somewhat lopsided no?
Willis due to injury, Borland, injury awareness, Cowboy due to injury, Davis,?.
I think there’s plenty of evidence from the NYG game concussion, to suggest Anthony is concerned as well Winder.
I understand his concerns.
It’s the timing of his decision that leaves me wondering why he waited until now?
http://tinyurl.com/povjjlj
Dr Daddy is on the Health and Safety Committee.
Coincidence?
Could there be a concerted effort to have them retire before there are further complications?
NJ- yeah that makes sense. Being a lineman in the NFL your gonna take your knocks. I just don’t think it has much of anything to do with the coaching changes. The players that left for other teams all got better money. Harbaugh got better money. Is Jed a tightwad? Probably for the most part.
I think tightwad starts, and ends, with Dr Daddy Winder.
As I’ve said repeatedly, I don’t want our Ownership mirroring the likes of Snyder in DC or Jerruh in Dallas.
That scenario scares me.
They’re not football people.
Pay football people to run the team, then, stay away and let them work.
No problem if you’re going to mingle in the locker room and hand out towels, as Uncle Eddie did.
Support them, give them what they need and don’t mess it up.
NJ- You are scaring me. I thought you had more sense. The dingbat blog is getting to you. Jed is the all star this off season. He and Baalke are making great decisions IMO.
Hey! How bout that horse American Pharoah.
Hey! How bout that horseshit piece named Anthony Davis.
Antithesis… thy name be you.
AD’s career as a 49er is over. Done. Kaput!
You don’t accept those type of people back into your family after they’ve quit on you. You don’t. You can’t. No self-respecting man or organization would even consider the idea. So help me motherfucking Christ if the 49ers allow Anthony Davis to take a year off and then comeback and play again like nothing’s ever happened…
I’ll beat Trent Baalke to a pulp with Alex Smith’s signed rookie contract.
I’ll obliterate the both of ’em.
Hope you made out good today dennis. Personally, i couldn’t pick a winner to save my life. I did better when I bet the fucking jockey.
Anthony Davis was a very good run blocker but sucked as a pass blocker. He lost the Seattle NFC championship game when he let his man get by and blind side Kap, which caused a fumble. Good-bye. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Boone will be a much better RT. But not a better RT Firefly!
I’d like to see Boone or Davis win the Del Mar Dennis Yahoo league like RT Firefly did!
Berger I’m not sold on just what influence Jed has on this roster.
As stated, he owns the team, we can’t change that.
I’ve been on the side of Baalke as the ‘football guy’ in this dynamic.
Jed Tweeting apologies following the Thanksgiving loss to Seattle was about as bush as it gets, Irsay-ish to say the least.
Yes Jed, we’re disappointed, we don’t need to be reminded via Twitter.
I have no problems with his desire to win, just don’t meddle.
We, collectively as fans, can’t know what took place behind the scenes, to the extent for which Harbaugh was released.
Lack of Offense? Certainly plausible.
I’m still a fan, have been for years, don’t see that changing.
I simply want an Owner to provide all the resources he can, to give the ‘football guys’ what they need to succeed.
I don’t want Jed behind the scenes, pulling a Snyder-type power play, at the expense of the guys he hires to run the team.
Paraag and Baalke work the Cap very well IMO.
For whatever took place in the Harbaugh relationship, I’m not going to speculate on anything, other than what was made available via the media.
No axe to grind with Jed, just don’t meddle, that’s all I ask.
Things have gotten to the point of absurd with all the retirements however.
Can’t find a precedent for that in this game no matter how hard you look.
Again, that’s left to all the speculators.
I’m behind the guys that are here to earn an NFL paycheck to win.
Hopefully that effort shows up this year.
And, I’m open to the guys that feel otherwise.
Everyone sees it their way, that’s fine.
A good debate is fine in my book.
One thing is certain, we’ve got plenty of action surrounding our 9ers this past year.
NJ- Jed has not meddled. The only exceptions have been McDonald and the tweet you mentioned. As a fan I was pissed and thought the apology was appropriate. It please me very much. I made me see him as an owner who has a pair. I saw it as shot over the bow for a coach who was out of control. He got fired very soon after that tweet. Grow a pair of your own my friend. Harbaugh was out of control and had to be dealt with. Over 20 on IR last year and players retiring in their prime en masse isn’t a pattern of a looney coach who drove the players over the top. Jed has the pair you don’t have. He fired a very popular coach out of necessity. If you see him as a meddler give some examples beyond the two I gave.
Berger, my pair doesn’t matter in this debate.
He owns the team, his prerogative.
As stated, whatever took place between he and Harbaugh is pure speculation for the masses.
We can assume it was beyond repair, for whatever the ‘real’ reasons were.
20 on IR might suggest guys were beaten down, perhaps.
Is that on Harbaugh?
Again, speculation.
I can accept your perception, it was reported that many of the guys felt that way.
I don’t see him as a meddler, simply HOPING he’s not.
Eddie was a quick tempered Owner too.
I challenged the Offensive scheme with several people who blog between Skeebs’ site and here.
I felt there was plenty of reasons to improve on the Red Zone futility and lack of 4th Qtr production.
Whether that was on Harbaugh, Roman or, the combination of both, it could have served as the impetus to send Jed in the direction he chose with Harbaugh?
I don’t defend Harbaugh’s antics on the sidelines for one second. Thought it needed to be reigned in and, sent the wrong the message to the guys that had to stand on the sidelines and witness those childish tirades on a regular basis.
Can’t dismiss his winning pct either, he took them to the Playoffs as we know.
Jed made his call.
His right to do so.
My ‘pair’ doesn’t afford me those privileges.
He calls the shots.
Whatever Ward, weren’t you a little hard on the Beaver last night!
Jesus H. motherfucking cock-sucking Christ all fucking mighty…
Stop defending this Mickey Mouse organization. I don’t what team you’ve been watching these past 20+ years since we’ve last won a SB, but it sure in the hell isn’t the same one I’ve lost my mind over in the same time span.
You continue to espouse complimentary platitudes to an organization that is so undeserving. When in fact, they are in need of the exact opposite. The exact opposite when Jim Harbaugh and Colin Kaepernick lost the Super Bowl to Joe fucking Flacco…
Hatred.
I hate this fucking team. It makes me sick to my fucking stomach.
Berger it’s VERY possible Harbaugh simply wouldn’t ‘play nice’ with Mgt too.
Again, we can all speculate until the cows come home about what really took place.
No secret that Harbaugh bucks authority.
Played to his own beat, for better or worse.
He landed a very lucrative deal with his Alma Mater too.
If money didn’t matter in SF, he cashed in pretty well in Ann Arbor.
NJ- You are like Father Knows Best. Grow a pair. Blogs are for opinions, not fatherly advice..
