Well, this time around, better quiet than turmoil. Last year at this time, rumors were flying about our dear departed head coach, the fact that Harbaugh was nearly traded, the coach didn’t talk to the GM, on and on.
All we have this year is the snickering from the so-called cognoscenti (and blognoscenti) about how the team has no chance, the coach is a goober, a snitch, and a yes man for the FO , the OC is an inexperienced neophyte, and the team is old and lousy due to defections.
Well, the team is getting a little long in the tooth, but they did get younger at RB and DL. Right? The point being, this team appears to have gone through a lot of turmoil and is quietly going about its business while the sports world is hell-bent on dumping on the team. Tomsula did the hee-haw crowd a favor by having an uninspiring presser to start his tenure, because as we all know, good pressers mean good coaching. It was all a prefect storm of innuendo and snickering by the hoi polloi of the ESPN crowd, quickly followed by the local media. It became de riguer to dump on the team.
The swirl of doomerism is slowing down. Mainly because you can’t keep beating that horse and expecting people to keep listening. The team is starting OTAs and exciting nothingness happens while people are starting to ask questions around VD and his effectiveness and who will the cornerbacks be among the young crop of guys rather than why Jed is the anitchrist who dethroned the greatest coach in Niner history, St. Jim the Penultimate.
Either way, none of this shit will matter until they start playing for real in September. It’s all talk. Who knows? Maybe they’ll be a good team.

Hard for some folks to accept changes perhaps?
Mentioned on the last thread that dysfunction was pretty obvious to me last year.
Be it the turmoil from within, the injuries or, perhaps a growing dissatisfaction with the status quo.
Many of us questioned the Offensive blandness, lack of rhythm and so on.
Good arguments to be made for whether Harbaugh or Roman were to blame I guess?
Thing is, we saw Vernon become invisible, TEs in general become less and less involved and, of course, a Red Zone Offense that flat out didn’t exist.
What it is now is, another do-over.
New Staff, new players, new challenges.
For me, players have to execute a plan given to them by the Coaches that are running the show.
If players aren’t in it to win, they aren’t needed.
All we can ask for is effort and dedication to their Trade.

Well, that’s a big point I often wonder about. VD and Goee suddenly forgot how to block. VD wasn’t getting open and gore wasn’t exactly tearing it up. Crabs was his usual middling self. Stevie wonder had a nice start but vanished. Lloyd was a one-shot deal.
Kappy was more often than not running for his life. He’s supposed to tone down the runs but Gore wasn’t used as an outlet much. So he’s taking sacks. It appeared to me as if he lost his decisiveness, and with that his confidence.
Will a coaching change help? Well, I don’t think it’ll hurt. Yes he needs to process things faster but they need to block better and run a quicker offense and use what kappy brings rather than stifle it.
I’ve always sucked at making predictions like this. This team is in transition, I don’t know how it could be described any other way, but there’s still a lot of talent. I’m just going to be optimistic until I have reason not to be.
I am excited to see if Kap will finally reach his potential, how 2nd and 3rd year guys like Dial and Carradine do, how Hyde and Hunter do and how the rookies fit in. On that level alone, it should be interesting.
There’s also a couple of promising lineman coming into their, what, second and third years? They haven’t had a chance to show their stuff. Brandon Thomas, Marcus Martin, they purportedly have a lot of talent and have had a full year to be coached up. Iupati is gone, so maybe those guys are better pass blockers and can make a difference in that area, which is desperately needed.
Losing Borland and Willis is huge, but maybe Harold can step in fairly quickly and contribute. That may be the big weakness for the D this year, if that’s not stating the obvious. I was stoked about Borland becoming a great player and now nothing. I wish him well, though.
I’m ready for camp to start and have the chance to see how everything shakes out.

I think we have the personnel to be a very good team. I think we’re younger and faster. What that translates on the field is still yet to be seen. Losing team leaders like Willis, Cowboy, and hard nosed players like Borland will be practically impossible to replace. I just hope someone(s) steps up to try and fills those roles. Good play and attitude are infectious. Team chemistry will be the key. Also, we don’t have the luxury of having certain positions (cb’s) covered by proven back-ups. Kappy is gonna have to step up. We shall see.

At this point is seems obvious that Harbaugh took the joy of football away from many of these players. I’ve never seen so many off season retirements for players in their prime.
