Not much going on these days. The dust has settled, and the hens are clucking about the demise of the team. Oh, the unwashed masses. The hipsters are selling their tickets as fast as the hipsters coveted them it the first place. How easily they are distracted by the hope that wasn’t to be, and the reality that we now face. The team was getting old, the offense was stagnating, and the Lord God of coaches wanted to go to the Big House. Let’s hope the real fans realize that there was something to the team’s offensive woes, and the stagnation that seemed to creep in.
Throw out the meddling of the front office, or Harbaugh, or whoever engineered the maelstrom, and there’s very little that would be different right about now. Harbaugh wanted Super Bowl money for not winning the Super Bowl. Not gonna get it. Willis would have retired, Gore would have gone after the Indy money, Cully and Cox would have chased the money they weren’t going to get here as well. Borland? Yup. No one saw that. The coaching exodus? Not sure around the report that Gase would have stayed but for Jed saying Tomsula had to be the DC is simply baffling since that precludes the notion that this is Baalke’s team. Hard to think the entire coaching staff was blown up over Tomsula and his role going forward. But that played out as it played out.
So, either way, we would be facing a huge draft with a bunch of holes to fill. The only thing I thought would happen was one of Cully or Cox would stay. Oh, well. CB becomes a need. As does DL, OL, and LB. We get a 4 and a 7 as noted, so we have 9 picks.
This IS a very important draft, and Baalke needs to feel his oats in a big way.
As it lays now, I see BPA in the first 3 rounds. With two 4s, they can take a flier on a QB. Gonna be an interesting draft to say the least. I think we don’t try any more bargain bin injured guys, or trading around. This is going to be a straight load-up draft.
What I see if everything else is equal is:
DL, CB, OL, WR, QB, LB, DB, OL, WR.

The more I think about this the more I think you’re right. Maybe a couple of differences, as you indicated, but pretty close. The shockers of losing PW and Borland have kind of amplified what has been a pretty distressful off-season, but Harbaugh was clearly at the end of line with the Niners. We’ll have to see how the coaching changes shake out and I’m still not down with the way all of that was handled, but they’ll get a fair shake from me. It’d be nice if the draft was next. The waiting is killing me.
We need to get the Giants fired up to take the edge off.

I agree, the hunt for our new coaches was more like a 3 ring circus than a professional search. In the end the only one that still irks me is our OC, I just don’t get it. I know Vegas and a lot of other people have written us off but I think we’re gonna play some real tough ball this year. It’s either that or because of the schedule we have we’ll get creamed.
Draft Weekend is like a Holiday in my family.
New beginnings as it were.
Our ILB Group took a major hit for sure.
Trouble is, this crop of ILBs isn’t a strength this year.
We’ll likely find some developmental prospects after RD1 but, I’m not counting on anyone we select to step in on Day 1 and contribute.
Our best bet is likely to pursue a Vet on the cheap to get by.
Reports are circulating that Baalke is already entertaining that option.
Lance Briggs and Erin Henderson have been mentioned, neither of which will hold Patricks’ jock at this point.
Add to that, the new DCO Mangini, and I’m at a loss to make any predictions on what to expect.
Agree regarding the ‘meltdown’ surrounding Harbaugh and Staff.
I can only assume it got ‘that bad’ as to the need to jettison everyone.
Gonna be a wait and see proposition for me this year.
In the meantime, get younger on D via the Draft and… hope for the best.

Anybody catch what there people at Kap’s off-season work out camp are saying about him?
“The one thing about Colin and those working out around him, he pushes himself to the limit,” Gile said. “He works extremely hard. He works out extremely hard in the weight room and on the field. He’s the first one to get here and last one to leave. He leads people with his emotion, whether it’s someone on the 49ers or Odell Beckham or whoever’s over there. He’s pushing everybody to get better. He’s a really good leader.”
Here is more of what was said about Kap from the camp:
Gile said Kaepernick always showed up early and was the last person to leave. He set the tone for everybody during those workouts.
“He was pushing everybody to get better,” Gile said. “He’s a really good leader.”
But what separates Kaepernick, according to Gile, is his attitude and intelligence.
“He’s a very grateful, coachable, humble, respectful guy,” said Gile, who said he anticipates continuing to work with Kaepernick in the future. “He’s such a great kid. He’s a great human being.
“If anyone thinks that Colin can’t get through his reads, or (say), ‘Why isn’t he going from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4?’ There’s a lot more that goes into that. That’s for him and his team to figure out. But Colin is super-smart, super-intelligent. He gets it. He sees it. He understands it. He has a photographic memory that’s ridiculous. Colin was really special before he got here, obviously, physically and mentally. . . . His ceiling is super-high.”
I’d say the people at the camp are questioning Kap’s coaching. They specifically said “That’s for him and his team to figure out.” I was questioning Robaugh’s ability to call a cohesive offense for the last two years. It is nice to hear an expert agree.
Agree completely. It has been my opinion that coaching/playcalling has not played to Kaps strengths.
Kap was to Harbaugh what Randall Cunningham was to Buddy Ryan. An athletic QB who can make something out of nothing to make up for the coaching staff’s lack of ability to call a sensible offensive game in the first place.
To be able to coach I think the most important part is building a culture. Harbaugh was able to do that and he did that well, even though it was Singletary who started the 49ers culture of being a tough no nonsense team. But a coach needs a good scheme too.
I always say to start with a D-line, a QB and a good play caller, then build around that. Baalke provided Harbaugh with two thirds of the equation but is was up to Harbaugh to provide the play calling and he severely lacked in the that area. I firmly believe Harby was fired for not giving control of the offense to a better play caller. Harbaugh’s system of 4 coaches calling the plays is the oddest play calling system I ever heard of. When I heard of it I actually felt sorry for Roman.
I applaud Jed York for doing the right thing and ousting Harbaugh. Harby gave control of the defense to a good play caller in Fangio, his Schembechler past would not allow him to do the same with the offense. IMO, Harbaugh’s stubbornness cost us fans one or two Super Bowl championships as well as his job.
Kap is the man. I dont see RG3 doing any work with anybody this offseason. For me its CK 1 all the way baby
