All Quiet on the Coaching Front

Looks like Chud is the word these days. He seems to be the OC prize among the flotsam drifting around the coaching Sargasso Sea. Mute nostril agony indeed.

There is idle speculation of hitting the college ranks for an OC, but I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Ore, Ohio St. And ‘Bama? Why not? They are basically pro teams who pay accordingly, but someone might want to make the jump.

High comedy. Tom, meet Pete schwetty.

I’d venture to say he’s making S up along the way there. Looks pretty uncomfortable explaining what goes on.

If Belichick were behind the coat check counter, I’d make sure all my pockets were empty before handing the coat to him. No way I’d hand him the keys at valet parking. I’ll be shocked if the NFL “investigation” finds anything, certainly not before the SBowl. Goodell is Kraft’s waterboy. To save face, the team might be forced to lose a 5th round pick and contribute $250K to NFL Charities…

Kiffen apparently took himself out of the Niner OC field.
Now, it’s down to Chud and Unca Chuck…

csnbayarea story on Kiffen. Sounds like an F off kinda thing to me, not in so many words. He wants to be second banana under Saban, not Tomsula and Prince Jed. Ouch.

I think the rule in the NFL should be that each team should be able to put whatever pressure they want in their footballs. What’s the big deal anyway. Don’t we want a better product? If putting 10.5 lbs psi in the ball allows the QB to throw the ball better then do it.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I think the pressure thing is more to the point of fumbling. A deflated ball is clearly less prone to getting fumbled. The link I put above shows the Pats have an unbelievabley better rate of not fumbling per snap compared to the rest of the league over a long period of years — since 2007. Before that, they were pretty average or below average, which makes sense considering where they play half of their games. Something changed in 2008, like, say, a light went off and they decided to play with deflated balls? How can a team that plays in Foxboro in the late fall and winter have the best fumble rate in the NFL — even better than ALL the dome teams? Coaching? Yeah, sure…

All the better. I think since the rule is that each team supplies their own 12 footballs, they should be able to put the amount of air in them that they choose. Don’t we want the best football quality that is possible?

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Sure we want quality football, but on a rainy/wet/frozen day, I don’t want one team fumbling 4X and the other not at all. Turnovers are key in the NFL. Gotta have a level playing field of some sort….

Seely went to the Raiduhs to be their ST coach. Last season, the Niners were ranked 23rd in overall STs stats. Year before, 15th. 2nd and first in the years before that, which I found hard to believe, but OK. So, I’m not missing Seely one bit. It shouldn’t be hard for the new guy to improve on crap to at least mediocre, as long as Baalke gets a few bodies. If they get Chud for OC, I think this coaching staff is not too bad. There’s been a helluvalot of asst coaching movement this offseason. So, in that regard, the Niners are not alone in a major coaching shakeup…

Berger after seeing the Senior Bowl activities this week,
I’m sticking with Clive Walford as my #1 TE.

I think I’ve finished my ‘All Little Guy List’ as well.
These could be guys we might want to add for the slot or PR/KR duties –

    1) Jamison Crowder – Duke
    2) Justin Hardy – ECAR
    3) Tyler Lockette – KS St

Liked what I saw from Phillip Dorsett from the ‘U’ also.
Might consider him as 3A, just for his speed.
He has that ‘Eff You’ kinda speed that could help anyone.

Seems to me, guys like TY Hilton gave the ‘Hawks more trouble anyway.
Might want to consider speed over size perhaps?

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

If we had the Harbaugh regime I would say don’t waste our time drafting speed, RoBaugh didn’t use that tool. Since we might get a coaching staff that understands what speed is and what it can do for us maybe I’ll get excited if we draft somebody who has it.
