All-Time Post of Forever (#1)
NJ49er
says:
September 7, 2011 at 7:40 pm (Edit)
I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

Idiotic. And it’s now clear that the only thing Jed/TB ever wanted was a lackey to do what they say. Gonna be tough to support this team with the stupid-ass non football decisions getting made by York
it certainly is a surprise move, and it’s possible that we will have a bunch of ship jumpers real soon. I don’t really know how I would feel if I was a ticket holder, probably a little upset. Since I am a lifelong fan I guess I’m gonna have to see this whole drama played out. It does make one wonder who the fuck is giving advice.
This is starting to look like Jerryland Jr. I’m afraid.
I’m not joining Dennis on the ledge until they name Marc Trestman as their OC.
dennis should be happy until they name a new OC, and I imagine a possible DC. My thoughts on Tomasula is that he’s a rah rah guy with a good attitude, if I remember right.
Just fucking ridiculous Tomsula never even interviewed for the HC job which says to me he was the perfect “Yes Man Puppet” both Dork & Baakle wanted all along!!
I swear secretly Dork & Baakle are Seahawks fans!!
They would have been better off hiring the Cheerleader Coach, the Head of Security, or digging up Bill Walsh’s corpse and putting him on the sidelines with a headphone set on him!!
The WashPost has Fangio leaving. But that was to be expected.
Jesus, you hear the names Trestman, Shanny Jr, Dennis Allen for DC, it makes me ill.
Might as well promote Donatell and be done with the charade.
My God, it took the front office this long to do this. fucking incredible.
That’s nothing Chuck, if your barf bag is handy, here’s some more names for your possible DC.. that Raider dude Jason Tarver,Jimbo’s personal Butt slapping Bitch Jim Scwartz sp?(Who gives a shit) yes indeed fun times ahead in Ninerville.
I’m sure we fucked up now, trying to even get a Dan Quinn for the DC job, yeah I’m sure he wanted a HC gig, but if you back up the Brinks truck with Franklins, Hamiltons, Benjamin’s, it could pursade him, since their isn’t a salary cap on coaches like players!
Tomsula seems more of a HC than a Dc to me. As I said previously, I am more interested in who our OC is than our HC.
Yeah the key is attracting a competent OC and if Fangio leaves as expected a new DC. Apparently Jed and his advisors were not thrill with the current coaching staff. Perhaps getting rid of the key Harbaugh guys is underway.
As much as everybody liked Fangio, and I did too, his pass rush just disappeared in many games. He did have the #5 defense, which is amazing with the injuries but I think we have the personnel to be a better pass rushing team. Fangio would go too conservative at times and it did cost us a few games. Numbers are great but getting to the QB is what makes things happen.
Well on Comcast the guys are saying they don’t think Gase would be a good fit, he is only 36 yrs old, never played in college. And of course there is the question off how much input did Manning have control over the play calling. Gase would have been responsible for bringing the team together after the cluster fuck season that just went down.
I think Gase would have been fine. Tomsula is beyond the safe approach. If they get trestman, well, it shows yhis front office has no clue but to repeat the mistakes of the past.
Well, he is undefeated as a HC.
If I wasn’t convinced before, I am now. Baalke and York are a couple of fucking morons. I’ve no doubt that Tomsula is a fine coach and man, but after nearly 3 weeks of “searching,” this is their hire?! Unbelievable. My gut feeling right out of the gate is that this will NOT work out. No way in hell does he surpass what Harbaugh did. Jesus H. Christ this is frustrating. I bet Seattle fans are laughing their collective asses off.
This is a prime example of how two bozos can convince themselves that they actually know what they’re doing. I’ve never been less excited about a 49ers coaching hire. These two “leaders” need to get the hell out of Dodge.
Well I tell ya, I just don’t know. I’ll have to wait and see who they bring in as OC and DC, but based on the names I’ve seen, I’m not very encouraged.
Dennis Allen? Marc Trestman? Schwartz? Shanny jr? Really? Christ. I don’t gave a very good feeling about this.
The best teams are the ones where the owner hires a strong talented GM & HC and gets the flying f*ck out of the way. Watching Jed and Trent at that presser a couple weeks ago had an ominous feel to it. Jed really came off as someone who clearly though wayyy too much of himself. All these years I have reveled in the existence of Jerruh, and how he is the best Cowboys owner a 49er fan could ever wish for. Now, I have this sick feeling in my gut that we are seeing the emergence of Jerruh2 in Jed.
Sure hope I’m wrong, and much rides on whom we get for OC/DC, but I think Tomsula really is a puppet. Jed wants to pull the strings. Some people and their freaking egos.
Tomsula is HC material. Better than Harbaugh as a HC? Yeah its possible, just not likely. I know I’m looking forward to his press conferences though.
Trestman is a decent OC, innovative too but much like Norv Turner he is no HC.
For DC I would promote Donatell, worked with Fangio and Tomsula, has been a DC before and it provides continuity on the D side.
Lots of wailing about losing Harbaugh and Roman, I’m more concerned about losing Fangio. I think Harbaugh and Roman had run its course.
I read people slamming Tomsula as a puppet or only useful as a yes man. Around the league and from the players he is very well respected. I don’t think any of us has any insight as to if he is a brown noser or not.
Not a sexy pick but like some have said, lets wait to see him fill out his staff, and while we are at it maybe let him get a game or 2 under his belt before the full crucifixion.
The team is still pretty solid from a talent perspective.
Yep!
I think part of these coach searches is its an opportunity to gain intel.
Exactly 12th.
They had Tomsula in the bank already.
Interviews are a perfect way to gauge outside opinions on what you may not already know, or see, for yourself.
I believe Fangio eff’d himself with the ‘Shanny comes or I go’ routine.
For me, find an Offense.
Harbaugh and Roman didn’t have one.
My feeling is that Baalke may have gone to Denver to tell Gase he can have the OC job in SF if he isn’t offered anything better?
Don’t have any feeling about Gase NJ except that the team made a decent effort to hire him as HC from reports, he was the only guy to get 2 interviews right?
It is a risk to hire such a young guy as HC and rarely works.
As for him as OC, from what I’ve read and seen he is primarily a pocket passer OC similar to Martz, I’m not sure that is the right way to go just yet with Kap but perhaps he has more than one string to his bow.
Gotta admit 12th, didn’t see Tomsula coming after all these interviews.
I’ve got no issues with Tomsula the Coach, it’s all about finding someone to develop Kaep for me.
Thus far, Harbaugh didn’t get enough out of him.
Maybe he’ll find some help at EXOS in AZ?
This whole process has been painful.
Now the entire Staff gets blown up.
Have to conclude the “search” was a bit of a farce except to say they may have found someone they thought was better than Tomsula by interviewing and they gained intel and other viewpoints from some of the best coaches available so it has value.
I don’t remember reading Tomsula was formally interviewed but perhaps he was behind closed doors, who knows?
Elway basically said the same as Baalke and Jed. A team has to strive to win it all, good records and stats is not enough, so both franchises have chosen to try another path. Risky? Sure, but if it is thought that the current staff has exhausted itself what else is there to do?
Given a choice I would have fired Roman and kept Harbaugh for the final year and given it one last try but Harbaugh was just too much of an asshole to live with apparently.
Regardless, its done, history, and so is the pick for new coach so I intend to watch with fascination as the coaching team gets filled out and from what I’ve read it is a complete sea change with onl Rathman staying so far. Shows Tomsula did not believe in the 12 O coaches system or that he didn’t think those particular 12 coaches were up to it at least.
Morton?
Agree 12th.
Necessary process I guess?
Tomsula fits the ‘teacher’ moniker to a tee, so, no surprise there.
In hindsight, it would seem as though Roman was doing what Harbaugh asked him to do?
Another aspect to that scenario was failing to develop Kaep into more of a Pocket Passer.
Many uncertainties surrounding this circus.
All we know now is, it’s a clean slate.
See what develops.
I don’t know. All I can say is I’m worried.
This isn’t exactly an exciting pick. Bit like I said we’ll see when he hires his staff.
Retaining Rathman was a smart move if they have any plans to make a push for Frank to return.
I wasn’t crazy about the Shanny ideas whatsoever.
Might’ve been the reason Fangio failed to impress?
Who saw Jim Caldwell coming in Indy?
Sometimes the quiet guy no one knows can get the job done.
Boldin and Vernon don’t seem to have an issue with Tomsula.
Maybe there was more to the Harbaugh ‘experience’ than anyone really let on about?
It is what it is.
Owners get that privilege, they sign the checks.
I just hope Trent and Tomsula can find the personnel together and, make this Offense better.
Owners write the checks, fans wring their collective hands.
Can’t not like them keeping Rathman. And I do hope they keep Gore for next year. Shit, maybe the players can relax a little and they’ll play looser.
it’s kinda funny as i think about fangio but i seem to remember when he was first hired by the 9ers that some of the talking heads were saying that he’s only good in college and that his schemes wouldn’t work in the pros. he was a dc before (tampa?) and started great and then got worse and worse. i have no idea about the facts behind that but i distinctly remember the media saying that the league would catch up to him. i’m not sure what that means when we lose him as the potential hc and certainly the dc because he obviously looked pretty good year after year. as for tomsula, bless his heart but he’s got a rather large job ahead of him.
The knock on him was his D got less effective each year. Didn’t happen with the Niners however.
Overall numbers were good but the disappearing pass rush in many games was a killer.
He was conservative in some games its true but with that many injuries its hard to tell if he was covering another area of weakness. The problem with blitzing is its live by the sword, die by the sword as you know Berger.
Ewisco Fangio served as DC in Carolina, Houston and Indy.
I’d have to say, he had his best talent in SF.
Did an excellent job keeping it together for us.
Sorry he couldn’t stick around but, so it goes in the NFL.
We need Offense.
What about Brad Seely, anyone hear anything?
Have to assume he’s on the street 12th?
Seeing as only Rathman was retained?
It’s turned into a wholesale house cleaning apparently.
Thought they’d have had some success just shopping for an Offensive overhaul.
Obviously hasn’t panned out.
That report about only Rathman is premature NJ
OK, thanks 12th.
This whole process is mind-boggling.
Seely didn’t exactly light it up this year but, he kept it respectable.
Report is everyone but Rathman is gone.

I read that too Chuck, its what I alluded to when I said it is a sea change in coaches assistants, it turns out to be premature however. There are other reports out now. My take is only Rathman is currently known to be staying on. We shall see more tomorrow.
Solari will talk with Baalke in the morning as will some other as yet unnamed assistants.
