Game Day – Rilence of the Sams

Talk about an unraveling. St. Louis was supposed to be the next up-and-coming team in the vaunted NFC West. They had some coaching continuity with Jeff Fisher and co, Sam Bradford was set to shine, they have a stout defensive line that only got stronger with the addition of Aaron Donald, and they added O line depth with 2nd overall pick Greg Robinson.

Unfortunately, Sam Bradford’s season was ended with another knee injury, Chris Long is out with an ankle injury, Erstwhile backup Niner Shaun Hill came and went with a quad injury (no, not like Ozzie’s), and the Rams are down to their 3rd string guy, Austin Davis, a guy who looked good against Dallas (30-42, 327, 3 TDs) til he threw two 4th quarter picks, including a pick 6, to salt it away for Dallas. Speaking of Dallas, thanks for the tarnishing of the 12th man and beating Seattle in their house.

St. Louis, with all their defensive line firepower, has a total of ONE sack in 4 games. Curious at best, but that makes me a bit uneasy.  Wonder if they miss Michael Sam. Still and all, if the Niners are going to progress offensively this season, they need games like this to put an end to the offensive woes. Score early, score often. Win by 21. Dallas did us a big favor, so we need to take advantage of that. Go 4-2 and get 1/2 a game up on Seattle is a good thing. We need to keep pace with AZ. Lose this one, and it just makes everything harder.

But as the SF Giants proved, it isn’t how you start, but how you finish. This team is actually doing much better on defense than I imagined. Time for the offense to step up.

Yes this is a very big game. Cause next weekend the Niners are in Denver. who are 3-0 at home. The Niners handled Manning last year. But that might not happen in Denver. So to me this game is huge. GO NINERS

Dennis, I was 4-1 in the ESPN league. Did you take a win away from me last week?

I had won by 3.5 points.

    • I didn’t change a damn thing. There’s a number of reasons why your team was deducted points: 1) a player who had originally 100 or just > 100 yds was officially deducted a yd or two and those 5 bonus pts were taken back when going < 100. 2) a QB who was originally credited with a TD pass (Alex Smith was given one at first vs us on that short pass to Charles. It was later deemed a rushing TD) and you lost pts. there. 3) an IDP who was originally credited with a sack(s) later was changed to a 1/2 sack or no sack at all. 4) D/ST have sacks, FF, INTs, etc. taken away all the time. And I'm sure there's many other reasons why one might lose pts. that I can't think of off the top of my head.

ESPN and Stats Inc control all that. I don't have a say in the matter.

Happy Birthday Jerry Rice! 52 years old today. Saw his last game as a Niner. The Bears double-and triple-teamed him all game to keep him from going off. Problem was, TO caught 23 balls for a huge day.

  4. I’m betting Michael Sam is a huge fan of Pope Frank. WTF has happened to the Catholic Church? The church now “values their sexual orientation, without compromising Catholic doctrine.” The changes are being called a “pastoral earthquake.”

Bring back the days of the ruler-beating nuns and excommunicating gays. That’s the indoctrination that I received. Look how well-adjusted I turned out.

VD gonna play tonight. Hopefully he’ll be solid in the red zone.

Im with Kevin, big game tonight.

    Niners by 10

  8. Kev, “the Niners handled Manning last year?” Did I miss that game? I don’t recall playing Denver last year. Or the year before that either when Manning arrived. Last time we played Peyton was this August in preseason when Manning was 12/14 for 102 yds and a TD.

But you’re right about it being a big game. Because if we lose tonight it’s hello 3-4. We’re not beating Manning in Denver next week. We all know that. It’s just that some, and probably most of you, are too big of Niner homers to admit it.

Peyton’s setting the TD record next Sunday night and we’re gonna have to like it. No hamburger. No cheeseburger. Not even a hot dog. We’re getting nothing and liking it.

  9. Did you guys just see that Kap interview on ESPN? Son of a bitch. Not only wearing his hat backwards, but it’s also askew and looks thoroughly ridiculous. Not to mention he’s wearing those goddamn headphones again.

See, therein lies the problem. Like I scream to Berger all the time about the college FG kickers. They’re all wearing # 40, 52, 67 and 98. If you want to be a kicker, look like one! Wear # 1-19. You may laugh but appearance means something. It means confidence and respect. Trust me, I know.

Kap doesn’t look like a SB winning QB. Looks like he’s still playing college ball. Look at the past 10 winning SB QBs: You have the Mannings, Brady, Brees, Big Ben, Rodgers, Flacco and Wilson.. They all dress the part. Kap looks like he’s just attended a Lady Gaga concert.

That doesn’t win you Super Bowls.

  10. That stadium isn’t even close to being full. St. Louis doesn’t give a shit about the Rams. They’ll be back in L.A. next year. Book it!

  11. Keys to winning tonight:
    Run the ball
    Run the ball some more
    Keep running the goddamn ball

  12. Tonight’s POTG? Eric Reid. Just a hunch.

  13. Austin Davis broke Favre’s records at So Miss?
    I’m impressed.

  14. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Nice positioning by Bethea on the Cook reception. Bethea sucks.

  15. We suck. Austin Davis orchestrates an 11 play, 80 yd TD drive that consumes > 7 mins.

Did we fire Jim Harbaugh yet?

  16. Lucky that wasn’t picked off…

  17. Glad VD’s back. Commits a false start on his second play.
Did we trade Vernon Davis yet?

  18. 4 penalties (3 accepted) on our first drive.

Did we fire Jim Harbaugh yet?

  19. Cue the Spit comment that Bethea sucks in 3…2…1

  20. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Bethea has no chance against Cook.
