Game Day – Rilence of the Sams

Talk about an unraveling. St. Louis was supposed to be the next up-and-coming team in the vaunted NFC West. They had some coaching continuity with Jeff Fisher and co, Sam Bradford was set to shine, they have a stout defensive line that only got stronger with the addition of Aaron Donald, and they added O line depth with 2nd overall pick Greg Robinson.

Unfortunately, Sam Bradford’s season was ended with another knee injury, Chris Long is out with an ankle injury, Erstwhile backup Niner Shaun Hill came and went with a quad injury (no, not like Ozzie’s), and the Rams are down to their 3rd string guy, Austin Davis, a guy who looked good against Dallas (30-42, 327, 3 TDs) til he threw two 4th quarter picks, including a pick 6, to salt it away for Dallas. Speaking of Dallas, thanks for the tarnishing of the 12th man and beating Seattle in their house.

St. Louis, with all their defensive line firepower, has a total of ONE sack in 4 games. Curious at best, but that makes me a bit uneasy.  Wonder if they miss Michael Sam. Still and all, if the Niners are going to progress offensively this season, they need games like this to put an end to the offensive woes. Score early, score often. Win by 21. Dallas did us a big favor, so we need to take advantage of that. Go 4-2 and get 1/2 a game up on Seattle is a good thing. We need to keep pace with AZ. Lose this one, and it just makes everything harder.

But as the SF Giants proved, it isn’t how you start, but how you finish. This team is actually doing much better on defense than I imagined. Time for the offense to step up.

  1. Irish Kevin says:

Yes this is a very big game. Cause next weekend the Niners are in Denver. who are 3-0 at home. The Niners handled Manning last year. But that might not happen in Denver. So to me this game is huge. GO NINERS

  2. unca_chuck says:

Dennis, I was 4-1 in the ESPN league. Did you take a win away from me last week?

I had won by 3.5 points.

    • I didn’t change a damn thing. There’s a number of reasons why your team was deducted points: 1) a player who had originally 100 or just > 100 yds was officially deducted a yd or two and those 5 bonus pts were taken back when going < 100. 2) a QB who was originally credited with a TD pass (Alex Smith was given one at first vs us on that short pass to Charles. It was later deemed a rushing TD) and you lost pts. there. 3) an IDP who was originally credited with a sack(s) later was changed to a 1/2 sack or no sack at all. 4) D/ST have sacks, FF, INTs, etc. taken away all the time. And I'm sure there's many other reasons why one might lose pts. that I can't think of off the top of my head.

ESPN and Stats Inc control all that. I don't have a say in the matter.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Happy Birthday Jerry Rice! 52 years old today. Saw his last game as a Niner. The Bears double-and triple-teamed him all game to keep him from going off. Problem was, TO caught 23 balls for a huge day.

  4. I’m betting Michael Sam is a huge fan of Pope Frank. WTF has happened to the Catholic Church? The church now “values their sexual orientation, without compromising Catholic doctrine.” The changes are being called a “pastoral earthquake.”

Bring back the days of the ruler-beating nuns and excommunicating gays. That’s the indoctrination that I received. Look how well-adjusted I turned out.

  5. unca_chuck says:

VD gonna play tonight. Hopefully he’ll be solid in the red zone.

  6. 12th man says:

Im with Kevin, big game tonight.

  7. 12th man says:

    Niners by 10

  8. Kev, “the Niners handled Manning last year?” Did I miss that game? I don’t recall playing Denver last year. Or the year before that either when Manning arrived. Last time we played Peyton was this August in preseason when Manning was 12/14 for 102 yds and a TD.

But you’re right about it being a big game. Because if we lose tonight it’s hello 3-4. We’re not beating Manning in Denver next week. We all know that. It’s just that some, and probably most of you, are too big of Niner homers to admit it.

Peyton’s setting the TD record next Sunday night and we’re gonna have to like it. No hamburger. No cheeseburger. Not even a hot dog. We’re getting nothing and liking it.

  9. Did you guys just see that Kap interview on ESPN? Son of a bitch. Not only wearing his hat backwards, but it’s also askew and looks thoroughly ridiculous. Not to mention he’s wearing those goddamn headphones again.

See, therein lies the problem. Like I scream to Berger all the time about the college FG kickers. They’re all wearing # 40, 52, 67 and 98. If you want to be a kicker, look like one! Wear # 1-19. You may laugh but appearance means something. It means confidence and respect. Trust me, I know.

Kap doesn’t look like a SB winning QB. Looks like he’s still playing college ball. Look at the past 10 winning SB QBs: You have the Mannings, Brady, Brees, Big Ben, Rodgers, Flacco and Wilson.. They all dress the part. Kap looks like he’s just attended a Lady Gaga concert.

That doesn’t win you Super Bowls.

  10. That stadium isn’t even close to being full. St. Louis doesn’t give a shit about the Rams. They’ll be back in L.A. next year. Book it!

  11. Keys to winning tonight:
    Run the ball
    Run the ball some more
    Keep running the goddamn ball

  12. Tonight’s POTG? Eric Reid. Just a hunch.

  13. Austin Davis broke Favre’s records at So Miss?
    I’m impressed.

  14. Spitblood says:

Nice positioning by Bethea on the Cook reception. Bethea sucks.

  15. We suck. Austin Davis orchestrates an 11 play, 80 yd TD drive that consumes > 7 mins.

Did we fire Jim Harbaugh yet?

  16. Lucky that wasn’t picked off…

  17. Glad VD’s back. Commits a false start on his second play.
Did we trade Vernon Davis yet?

  18. 4 penalties (3 accepted) on our first drive.

Did we fire Jim Harbaugh yet?

  19. Cue the Spit comment that Bethea sucks in 3…2…1

  20. Spitblood says:

Bethea has no chance against Cook.

  21. Spitblood says:

Vance McDonald….. Lol. Nice 2nd round pick. Lol.

  22. Hey, McDonald. Would you like fries to go with that shake that jolted the ball loose from your possession.

  23. Spitblood says:

Bethea missed tackle on Tre Mason.

  24. That was pathetic. Beat like a redheaded stepchild.

  25. Spitblood says:

Great secondary play so far. Excellent.

  26. No words at the moment. Just completely dumbfounded.

  27. Spitblood says:

Vernon isn’t trying…. penalties, dropped passes, injured….. walking holdout.

  28. Spitblood says:

    Where’s Carrier?

  29. So good to have Vernon back tonight. Go back to fucking painting your 15′ self-portraits you self-righteous no-talent POS.

  30. Flavor says:

you know, until we get Smith and Navarro back, I think it’s realistic to feel like we are a pretty average football team.

  31. Flavor says:

and I agree with Spit and I’ve felt this way all season. Our secondary stinks.

  32. When Phil Dawson is your MVP, you’ve got none chance of winning the SB.
    None.

  33. Flavor says:

And Kap needs to run the ball more. A lot more. He’s just not that good at running through the progression of a passing play. And to people who think that’s increases injury risk I say, *you’re wrong.” Who’s more likely to get injured, the QB who is running with his eyes on everyone in front of him or the QB who sits in the pocket waiting to get blind sided.
We needed 3 yards there and Kap through one of his classic fades into double coverage. He was far more likely to get the first down by tucking the ball and taking off.

  34. NoFear49er says:

You guys are ridiculous. Isn’t there a “We Hate the Niners” blog you could go ruin?

    Better yet, stick with baseball.

  35. Spitblood says:

I wonder if we can trade for Terrel Brown or Donte Whitner? Oh yeah. No money. But hey, we’ve got 4 million for Johnson, 6 million for Gore and 2 million for a backup qb. What’s not to like?

  36. Spitblood says:

The 49ers might be the worst team in the division. Must be Harbaugh’s fault.

  37. That offensive PI (which it wasn’t) wiped out a huge 3rd dn conversion that was a direct result of some shitty 49er tackling that allowed some serious YAC by the Rams receiver.

You can write that on a 3 x 5 card and slip that into the complaint box while you’re at it.

  38. unca_chuck says:

The good news here is we should be down by 35.

    Other than that, we suck.

Told my son, yeah, we’ll run on the 2.

  39. unca_chuck says:

And with that, we’re right back in it!!!!

  40. Spitblood says:

Nice! Where has that play been all year? Deep ball? We need more of that, please.

  41. I’d rather be lucky than good.

  42. unca_chuck says:

spitblood, you are worse than Dennis. And that’s saying something.

    What llittle pussies you are.

  43. Spitblood says:

With all the problems the 49ers have, they absolutely need a deep passing attack. I never thought I’d say this, but thank god for Brandon Lloyd.

  44. NoFear49er says:

It’s a good thing the players have more heart than the lousy fans or they’d have packed up and gone home by now.

  45. unca_chuck says:

Culliver is really sucking. Thing is, we need pressure. We should be pressuring just about every throw.

  46. Flavor says:

that was awesome to see Kap throw the ball down field again. All of this possession shit has gotten extremely old……

  47. 5 1st dns and 10 yds rushing at the half.

Oh, yeah. This team has a shot at winning the Super Bowl.
Peyton Manning and the Broncos are licking their fetlocks.

  48. unca_chuck says:

Flav, you couldn’t be more wrong. Kappy is not the guy that needs to run. The read-option isn’t working. We don’t run deep enough routes for it to work. That’s how you end up with a lame-ass RG III. Gore should be running. Hyde as well. Philly and Dallas ran all over these guys.

You don’t send your QB into traffic to get blasted.

  49. Spitblood says:

With the passing attack, the 49ers only throw 10 yard passes, and our secondary if fucking terrible.

That deep threat is so huge.

  50. Spitblood says:

Culliver sucks, Bethea sucks, Reid sucks and so does Cox. Our secondary is too small and ineffective.

  51. Spitblood says:

Is Crabtree even on the 49ers anymore?

  52. unca_chuck says:

Keep rushing Davis, run the ball, and we win this game easily.

  53. unca_chuck says:

We’ had like 10 plays on offense Spitty. Please try to pay attention.

  54. Flavor says:

    there we go, Kap!

  55. Flavor says:

VD is playing like a woman tonight

  56. And Vernon drops another one.
Fuck him and his first born male child.

  57. Flavor says:

Kap could have run for that first down easily.

  58. unca_chuck says:

Unreal throw there. Now the defense is rested.

  59. Spitblood says:

The 49ers should never run the ball again. With a secondary this bad, we need a potent passing attack. Vernon Davis should sit…. losing his job to Carrier.

  60. PW is hurt? When the fuck did that happen?

  61. Spitblood says:

I bet Unca can’t wait to cut and paste the 49er website tomorrow on this blog. No bigger company man.

  62. Spitblood says:

Throw the fuckin’ football, Harbaugh. Keep throwing it.

  63. Spitblood says:

3 and out because Harbaugh runs on first down. Don’t run. Ever.

  64. The Rams are starting their 3rd string QB and we’re lucky to be up by 3.
But we got a shot of winning the SB.
    None chance.

  65. Spitblood says:

If P Willie is out, you definitely don’t run the ball. Harbaugh needs to change the way he coaches with this team. You can’t run the ball and play ball control with a secondary this bad.

    • unca_chuck says:

Fuck, you are retarded. The secondary’s actually playing well. ANd you want to burn clock. Fucking idiot. You and dennis should statr your own shitty fan beat-a-thon.

  66. Spitblood says:

Throw the f’n ball, Harbaugh. Throw it!!!! No runs. Not one.

  67. Spitblood says:

Don’t run the ball ever again. Never.

  68. Spitblood says:

omg…. run for five yard loss. Drive killers. Harbaugh doesn’t get how to put teams away.

  69. Spitblood says:

First down… now quit running the football. Stop it.

  70. Spitblood says:

Thank you. Step on their necks THROWING THE FOOTBALL. You don’t play ball control with a terrible secondary.

  71. Denver is going to kick our ass next Sunday night.

    • What was your official prediction for this year? 11-3-2?
Funny trying to be different, but that’s 11-5 in my book. Don’t tell me one of those 5 losses wasn’t @DEN next Sunday.

Please don’t insult me and yourself my saying the Niners are going to win next week.
Just. Please. Don’t. Do. Not. Do. That. I. Repeat. Do. Not Do. That.

  72. Please try to keep in mind: we’re playing a third string QB tonight.
Won’t be the case next week.

  73. Spitblood says:

Manning will destroy our secondary. If the 49ers want to keep up with Manning, they can NEVER RUN THE BALL AGAIN. Throw the ball all night long in Denver.

5 wides, empty, Ellington, Lloyd, Crabtree, Boldin and Johnson. No running backs, no tight ends. And if you have to go TE, go with Carrier. You can’t play ball control with this secondary. And if you go up by 14 against the Broncos, keep throwing because Manning can score 21 against the us in less than five minutes.

    • unca_chuck says:

Wow. Peyton with his dick in your ass, and Dennis going for the reacharound. You two are cute.

Peyton can’t throw planted on his ass. Hopefully we snap his brittle little neck. Or better yet, he gets eye cancer. Thank God you’ll both be there to lick his wounds.

And hey, we lose to Denver in week 7, it’s not like teams are making hay against them in their house. 4-3 with the shit this team has gone through is fine.

You guys can carry on being jackoffs But it won;t be here. Go reopen your uninhabited corner of the internet, Spitty.

      Fucking losers.

  74. Spitblood says:

Harbaugh, in this game, needs to practice putting the game away with Kaep, not Gore. Because our secondary sucks. Gore can’t put games away with a bad secondary. Right now, Harbaugh needs to go up 17 with Kaep. He has to start looking at this team differently.

  75. Spitblood says:

Please quit running Gore up by 10. Please.

  76. unca_chuck says:

Yeah mixing in the run with a 10 point lead is so stupid.

You are dumber than a bag of dicks.

    • Spitblood says:

This we can do that against the Broncos,up 10? Good luck with that. You’ve always been a redneck simpleton. Don’t drunk dial your sister tonight.

    • Spitblood says:

Harbaugh goes conservative, up by 10, and gets stopped. He should have gone pass all the way down the field and been up by 17. Against the Rams it’s okay. Against the Broncos, if we’re up, we lose.

  77. Early Vegas line: DEN – 6.5 O/U 51.5

That’s fucking free money man. Manning’s gonna put up 52 all by himself.
Did we sign Peyton Manning yet?

Our loss to Manning is going to be early Halloween scary.
    Hide the women and children.

  78. Spitblood says:

Vance McDonald is a cry baby. See the whining? The pouting? Pouting?

  79. unca_chuck says:

Nothing like getting your QB killed on an ill-advised pass. VMcD defended that nicely.

  80. Spitblood says:

    Lol.

  81. And Kap throwing off his back foot again gets rewarded for a bullshit PF call. Ball should have been picked off. Thank Christ it’s the Rams shitty secondary.

Repeat after me: This team is not SB worthy. It’s just not. No.

    • unca_chuck says:

Then go away. Turtle up. Pussy out, Why do you watch, you pathetic fuck? God damn. I’m sorry your life is so sad that all you can do is talk shit about the team you supposedly root for. Give up. Leave.Please.

  82. unca_chuck says:

Fuck. Harbs can’t put a team away to save his life.

  83. unca_chuck says:

Run up the middle on 4th and one? Twice? There’s some creativity.

  84. unca_chuck says:

And with the game on the line, up the middle. Gore;s out. Everyone’s getting hurt.

  85. Maybe losing to the Broncos by three TDs and having Manning just ruin our secondary like Ron Jeremy did to so many vagina’s will wake some of you people up.

This team is not equipped to win a SB. They’re not. Plain and simple. Coaching, QB play and a secondary that seeps like a sieve would get ‘cha to the first week in February.

But don’t fret. We’ll all get to enjoy Katy Perry during the half time show while the Broncos and Seahawks consider strategy and adjustments for the second half of their Super Bowl rematch.

But it’s nice to know we’ll still have Bo Schembechler™ as our HC.

  86. unca_chuck says:

Brilliant. Harbaugh is the weak link here. He doesn’t like to win big. he likes to play from ahead and not get too far up. This is fucking ridiculous.

I’m completely losing my faith in Harbaugh as an NFL coach.

  87. unca_chuck says:

Bailed out by the defense again.

  88. Winder says:

Hard to read this team but inconsistency is not a good thing. I think we have the ability to be very good. Once again our D is gonna have to save our butts. All in all a great win.

  89. unca_chuck says:

I just don’t understand the insistence to go up the middle when everyone knows it’s coming. They can do many different things other than run up the middle on 4th and 1.

This was another game we should have put away midway through the 3rd, but couldn’t. This bit us in the ass before (Chi, AZ) and it will again unless Harbaugh understands that you don’t put games away by going 3 and out. Or 4 and out. We threw all game because the Rams were loading the box. They were STILL loading the box when we tried to run late. Dumb.

  90. Winder says:

Parts of our running game have been driving me crazy for years, LOng before Harbs got here.

  91. 12th man says:

Wow, I just read this blog start to finish after the fact, what kind of fans are these?

  92. 12th man says:

What a come back game that was. Kap had a great game and I think we can put to bed the idea that he is a one read QB. The O is really starting to sync, not a finished product but can put points on the board.

VD didn’t look ready to play and probably shouldn’t have.

D had a tough first qtr but from there on were pretty solid. Fangio does a good job of adjusting.

Can’t complain about beating a division opponent in their stadium, never easy. Wait and see on the injuries list.

  93. unca_chuck says:

They are the gone kind, 12th.

    New thread is up.

  94. Irish Kevin says:

I loved the stat they showed during the 4th quarter. The Niners are the ONLY team to not score a TD in the 4th quarter. Doesn’t Harbaugh understand that if he puts the game away, his Defense won’t be under such pressure to win the game. keep the Defense rested for the season.
