Game Day IV – The Philly Shuffle

As in the 49ers may need an IV after this one, to keep them on playoff life support. This is either the beginning of the end of the Harbaugh era, or the end of the beginning of this shitty start to the 2014 season. I, along with many others, saw these early games as mere tests to our depleted defense that would be overcome by our newly retooled offense. Funny thing is, though, the NFL, in all it’s glory, decided to institute new rules around line play and WR rules. Which was seemingly designed to slow down Seattle’s constant harassing of WRs, most notably, Denver’s in the Super Bowl, Seattle had the temerity to slow down Pyeton Manning’s passing attack.  Verboten, in the eyes of Herr Goodell. The fallout from that was the apparent referee revenge on a 49er team that is extremely physical and hard-hitting. Recent case being two 15 yard penalties on Dan Skuta and Patrick Willis, which both proved to be legal hits as neither were fined. Anything remotely close to being a penalty has been called on us. Harbaugh redux, or merely kicking big dog when he’s down? Don’t know. Don’t care. But these penalties have been a BIG hindrance in these last two losses, and they need to figure the boundaries and stay within them. If not, this team could very well see themselves looking at a very tough road to even reach the WC. 1-3 and the division is pretty much gone. And we’re on;y at the quarter pole.

Beyond that, this is the second opportunity to win a game in their shiny new stadium. Philly comes in seemingly matching the Niners style of play by falling behind early, and zooming back to victory. The Niners of course have zoomed ahead to leads while coughing them up late. Philly surely doesn’t defend the run or pass well, and is having trouble running themselves due to a decimated O line, so one would think the Niners can attack on the ground and in the air. The key for the local team is to keep the ball away from Chip and Philly’s offense and score TDs when they get the change. I woud love to see the Niners get on top of a team and then keep the hammer down and win going away, but I just don’t know. I think we turn the page back a little and stop ;the 5 WR formations and get back to a more traditional 2-3 WR offense that doesn’t telegraph our intentions.

Tell ya one thing, Philly loves to attack with 3 WRs all day, so our safeties have to do a much better job of communicating downfield. Could be a barnburner. Course that usually means a 12-9 game.

Jim Harbaugh: 2nd best coach in 49er history.

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

2nd best coach to not win a Super Bowl. Which puts him behind Mooch. Seifert built that defensive backfield in 1981 and went on to build a great defense through the 8os and 90s.

Harbaugh took a good team to the doorstep and shit himself. He’s Mooch. Afraid to take chances. The kneeldown after the turnover to end the 1st half was utter chickenshit. Like Mooch running off the field vs TB. He plays not to lose. He doesn’t play to win.

  3. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Jim Harbaugh: Second greatest head coach in 49er history.

Sptblood. 2nd greatest village idiot in Sebatopol. You picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

  5. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Baalke better Draft someone to manage Challenges for Jim too.
    He’s clueless.
4th Qtr, tight game and Harbaugh has ZERO TOs left to use.
Get a stop on 4th and goal.
Need a 1st down to ice the game.

    WHIFF.
Fuk’n Baalke SUX. What kind of strategy is that? Run 3 plays into a brick wall?

Glad Stevie and Lloyd weren’t Drafted by Baalke.
That would mean he found someone to make plays.
    Like that little squirt Ellington.
Too small to make a contribution I guess?

Kaep needs to go to Play Clock Academy too.
Someone needs to explain to him that the clock goes backwards and see .00 means you lose yardage.
    But hey, we’re safe.
Baalke didn’t Draft him, Harbaugh did.
If they keep exposing Kaep in the open field our $2M QB maight earn his keep.

    • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

NJ – The Harbaugh challenge he lost with 3 minutes left to play? Harbaugh’s talked about doing exactly this several times. It’s basically a TO that gives his defense longer to rest than a normal TO. It also has the upside of maybe being overturned, even though doubtful. And in one minute (subtract 1 from 3 and you get the two minute warning), Harbaugh no longer needs his challenge flag anymore because all close plays are reviewed with under two minutes left. Did the lack of a challenge flag bite him in the ass? Nope. Never does. You’re a halfwit.

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

      Should’ve taken this game 38-10.
      Philly ain’t that good.
We just don’t have any rhythm on Offense to sustain drives when they matter.
OLine needs work, passing game showing signs of progress.
This game was much closer than it needed to be.

      I’ll take it however.

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Spit you have the halfwit market cornered.

The Defense was rested all day thanks to a ground game that was finally utilized.
      Playclock mgt still sucks.
Be it Harbaugh or Kaep, it’s year 3 of this sh!t.

For all your disdain for Baalke, his roster is deeper than most and covering up for injuries and suspensions fairly well thus far.
Baalke ain’t blowing 2nd half leads, stupid game mgt is.

Fangio and the Defense bailed out the Offense and ST today.
I thought Kaep looked less than stellar for far too long today.
He made enough plays to survive however, so I can’t be too critical.

      • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Must be hard for you to enjoy a 49er win when Harbaugh’s coaching staff beats a 3-0 team. Hard to make Harbaugh look bad after that, isn’t it. That’s why Del’s gone to bed.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

B!tch about Lemonier all you want, he’s being challenged by Lynch now.
Baalke keeps trying new options until something works.
That’s what you do with Draft Picks.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

        Are you serious clown?
You had this game marked as a loss last night.
3-0 team worried you, not me.
        Who’d they beat?

        Drool on fool.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

        We’ve beaten ourselves of late.
That’s on Coaching, long before the players the GM selected to go to battle with factor in.
        Rag on clownboy.
Ballke sux, Baalke sux, Baalke sux.

Remember one thing. In game decisions come from the sideline, not the front office.

      • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Cory Lemonier was a Trent Baalke 3rd round fuck up. GIve me that 3rd round pick and I’ll find you gold. And yes, I did have this game as a loss last night because Trent Baalke’s roster is so bad. Jim Harbaugh, the second greatest coach in 49er history, just pulled one out of the bag on a 3-0 team.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

        Frank sucks. Should’ve been cut.
Until he carries the day huh?

You should concentrate on a career in waffling.
        You’re damn good at it.

      • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Considering that Trent Baalke drafts shitty running backs like La Micheal James, and smaller running backs, prone to injury like Kendal Hunter and Marcus Lattimore, I guess we’re stuck with a 31 year old running back, ain’t we?

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Skuta and Wilhoite were FA pickups.
        What’s your point?
Finding players is what the GM does.

Pretty sure Skuta bulldozed Shady on a blitz late in the game today and hurried a throw.
He’s filling in for NaVorro, you know, another guy Baalke Drafted.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

There’s a guy named Carlos Hyde waiting to take a shot at replacing the 31 year old RB.
        Funny, Baalke picked him too.
        Go figure?

      • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

I guess if you get seven cracks at it you’ll eventually find a Carlos Hyde…. in the second round. Good GMs find running backs with fewer picks, in later rounds.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

LMJ wasn’t considered a sh!tty RB in College, nor was Lattimore.
If they turn out to be sh!tty Pro RBs that’s too bad.
More fail than succeed at this game as Pros.
        Is what it is.
I thought LMJ would’ve been a Darren Sproles kinda change up option.
He’s a little dude that made it and, he still produces results.
        LMJ?
        Not so much.

      • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

College doesn’t matter. What matters is where they project in the pro game. Try to keep up. The GM’s job is to project if they can produce and succeed at the next level. How’d James, Hunter and Lattimore workout? Nice projection, Baalke.

  6. Jim Harbaugh: Second greatest coach in 49er history.

I just wanted to see if I could type that with a straight face and without laughing.
I think the only more ridiculously absurd comment I could type that would produce even more laughter would be: And your Super Bowl MVP is Alex Smith.

    Try typing that one Spit.

  7. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Nothing I like better than sticking it to the Harbaugh haters – Del, Unca and NJ. This is fuckin’ great. They’re so pissed off Harbaugh just beat a 3-0, Chip Kelly team. They wanted desperately for Harbaugh to lose, and in doing so, they are now rooting against the 49ers. I, however, am enjoying the season and Harbaugh wins. LMAO!!!

And I get to troll these morons…. Watch this…

~ Jim Harbaugh: 2nd greatest head coach in 49er history!!!! ~

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

      I’m a 9er fan Spit.
I don’t ever root for them to lose.

I’m pissed that we didn’t embarrass that 3-0 Philly team.
Fangio pitched a shutout on that ‘High Octane’ Offense.
      What did our Offense do?
      Just enough thankfully.

      • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

You conveniently forgot to mention the special teams unit that Trent Baalke clearly gutted that almost cost us the game. But hey, at least we’ve got a 2 million dollar backup quarterback.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Special teams is where guys like your love Child Moody start Spit.
Philly ST schooled Seely for 14 points today.
Tip of the hat to them for that.

        Gabbert>McCoy.
        Regardless of his Contract value.
        It’s insurance.

Let’s hope we don’t need to use him anytime soon.
Because if Roman doesn’t start finding a passing attack, that protects Kaep from being exposed as a RB, we might just have to.

      • Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Yeah, it’s Seely’s fault that Baalke dumped Bubba V, Spillman and many other special teams veterans. It’s Seely’s fault that we gave up 14 pts on special teams. Are you aware that Seely is widely considered one of the best special teams coaches in the NFL?

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Yes Spit, Seely has been pretty productive in his position, I’m well aware.

I just find it comical that no matter what transpires between the lines, it’s always Baalke’s fault with you.

Like parents arguing over the children when there’s problems.
Sooner or later the parents aren’t responsible for the actions of the children.

I’d sure hope Harbaughs’ QB Kaep doesn’t turn into Alex 2.0 for your sake.
I’m not sure you could handle it.
At some point Kaep needs to read a Defense and know where his options are to beat what a Defense throws at him.
He’s no Peyton Manning just yet but, he’s getting by for now.
Can’t run around forever in this league, if you expect to succeed at QB.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Where exactly, do you draw the line between the responsibilities of the HC and the GM?
Should Baalke Draft/build the roster then Coach them up?

Harbaugh got a stacked roster when he arrived.
He took them to the Big Dance and won several Playoff games along the way.
At some point Coaching takes the responsibility for the results.

So far, it’s only been as good as 2nd place or worse.
Baalke sux though, at least in your infinite wisdom.

  8. Spit, I’ll leave you with this: if Harbaugh loses at home next week to Alex Smith you better do him the favor and kill him quickly. I will torture the fucker and make him suffer for making me suffer ten thousand fold. When Harbaugh begs for mercy and whimpers, “But, Del. I’m the second greatest coach in 49er history.” I’m going to say…

  9. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

You’re hilarious about Baalke Drafting small RBs too Spit.
Your 2nd love Child, RB Devonta Freeman comes in at 5’8″ 206.

He stacks up real well with our guys.
    LMJ – 5’9″ 208
    Frank – 5’9″ 217
    Kendall – 5’7″ 200
    Lattimore – 5’11” 221
    Carlos – 6’0″ 235

Projections are exactly what every GM does in the Draft.
They assign value based on College production.
The guys that get here either work to succeed or, they fall by the wayside.

    But, keep trolling.
Baalke’s roster beat Howie Roseman’s Roster today, even with the help of Tom Gamble.
    Go figure?

They could’ve won if it was a ST contest though.

  10. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Jerruh’s Cowpatties emabarrassed the Saints tonight.
I guess Jerruh is better than Baalke now.

He’s probably better than Sean Peyton and Drew Brees now too.
Sh!t, he’s also putting Dez and Romo in Playoff contention now too.
Pretty eff’n amazing what can happen on any given Sunday in this game.

Oh that Jerruh, he’s been playing coy all this time, making us believe he could only muster 8-8 results all these years.

    God does Baalke suck.
Oh. Wait. We beat them already.
    Baalke can’t suck now.
    I think?

  11. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

    I know one thing.
I’m actually going to root for the Cowpatties vs the ‘Hawks in a couple of weeks.
Rare is the day I care about Jerruh and his ‘Boys but hey, I always have a 2nd favorite team every week.

  12. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Well it’s another day…….I wonder who Spit will insult today? ………..I bet it will be Dennis or Chuck!

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Spit’s old, tired bullshit is just that. Old and tired. Baalke isn’t the problem. Consistent clamoring from the locker room is. Even after the win, there’s still crap coming out about how Harbaugh is wound way too tight and is treating the players like stupid children, while he rants and raves on the sidelines like a spoiled kid who got his lollipop taken away.

I suppose throwing the red flag on the FIRST SERIES on a spot call (which NEVER get overturned BTW) was done to save the defense. Laughable. These issues of clock management continue to dog the team. Kappy’s TO call was stupid beyond belief. Again, though, to whom does the fault lie? I knew they were going to hose that up. They always do. They just did it in a way I didn’t foresee or could imagine. The buck stops with Harbaugh. Kappy has to understand what that big clock counting numbers down means. Or they need a word that means “hike the fucking ball NOW!”

It was good to see them finally understand that Lemonade wasn’t getting it done. The defense was spectacular. Antoine Bethea had as good a game on defense as could be imagined (hmm, how’d they get that guy?). All the DBs were communicating well, and the coverage was outstanding. Despite the injuries. Special teams? Not so much. Despite continually kicking the ball to Sproles, and him breaking one, well, I guess it was OK.

Troubling to me is the fact that when we try a straight 5-7 step drop pass play, Kappy has no time to throw. Ever. We can’t block 4 let alone 5. If not for Kappy escaping contain, he’d have been sacked 10 times. As it was, it was 4 times.
