As the NFL inches closer to the real games in September, teams are supposedly playing their starters today more than any other fake fest. The problem with that is you have things like Sam Bradford, recently repaired QB of the resurgent Rams, going down to another knee injury on a hit by the Browns. Wes Welker was knocked out of a game by being knocked silly with a blow to the head. Something he’s had a few of. BJ Raji, NT of the Packers is out for the year with a bicep tear.
I get why Jimbo gets a little skittish putting his starters in these games for anything more than 2 series when you see things like this. Granted, scoring 3 points by the 1st string O is no great shakes, but then the 2nd and 3rd stringers get skunked, it sure doesn’t give Jimbo confidence that leading on the backups may not be a spiffy idea.
Andrew Luck played into the 3rd quarter, and was pummeled a bunch of times. Flacco is getting beat up in this game that I have no idea is taped or not. I;m thinking Kappy MIGHT make it into the 2nd quarter. For the supposed grumbling coming out of the Niner locker room about the grueling nature of practiice, the starters can’t reallyu complain on game day. .Unless your name is Jimmie Ward. He’s getting a ton of reps.
Anyhow, we get San Dawg, another team that we later play in the regular season. Will there be a few more heat-related deaths in the house that Jed-zeebub built? Will the grass flip over and die in the heat? Will the grass even stay put?
These questions, and more, will be answered, as the prolate spheroid rotates . . .
Finally! A touchdown.
Blaine Gabbert to Vance McDonald: You can’t stop them. You can only hope to contain ’em.
Gabbert looked more accurate on that drive, but he is still staring down his receivers. He won’t get away with those against starting CBs.
Hey!
Crappy field might have just hurt Dawson’s ankle. That could be a big blow if its all serious.
Have either caught a pass? I think Lloyd caught one last week.
Question remains why is there yet another pre-season game next week? Ridiculous these games get more and more every year, as players continue to get hurt for nearly nothing. The NFL’s greed is enormous…
The only way they get rid of a preseason game is if they roll it into the reg season. Which means 2 more reg season games. Which means a shitload more injuries.
Well, if you get a season ending knee injury in a “real” game, I suppose it is a little easier to swallow. There should be two pre-season games, and keep the reg season as is. They could expand the rosters and liberalize injury and IR lists, or something like that so that injured players could come back later in the season if ready…
Lloyd didn’t suit up today as Jimbo said “he’s working through a little something.”
I think that’s Harbaugh speak for “we didn’t want to take reps away from the other guys.”
My guess is Lloyd gets the axe. He can go back and continue with his budding acting career.
LMJ is getting a ton of work today. From here on in for the preseason, it’ll be backups and guys hoping to sneak by the 2 cuts or get picked up on waivers or at least make the practice squad.
Down to 53 in 9 days. That’s a ton of guys we’ll be seeing for the last time today and next Sunday.
Sounds like LMJ is earning his stripes in blitz protection today, at least from the radio call I’m hearing.
Ellington’s getting a lot of work at wideout. If today is any indication, preseason will be the last time he steps on the field in that role except to give a starter an occasional breather.
Brad Sorensen is the Charger’s b/u QB? They’re in bigger trouble then we are if they lose their starter.
My mistake – cutdown to 75 Tues. and 53 Sat.
Does Glenn Winston supplant Marcus Lattimore?
Any feedback?
As what? The guy most likely to work at Home Depot this fall?
Lattimore has been conspicuously invisible thus far.
Curious if Winston looks worthy of a roster spot?
Maybe Jewel Hampton should be concerned instead.
That’s their 3rd string guy, Dennis. Casey Keenan or some shit is the 2nd stringer.
Sucked seeing Marcus Martin go down. Didn’t look good for him. All in all, a blah kind of game. Kappy certainly didn’t look very comfortable back there, and the line blocking was terrible running and passing.
Any word on Martin Chuck?
Knee?
We’re talking about Practice. Practice? We’re thinking about Practice? Some of you are probably dreaming of Practice! Wake me up! I’m ready to count my toes or watch a practice game. Lets see one, two, three………..
NJ, it’s still being evaluated. I have an update on the new thread.
They are hoping for a dislocated kneecap rather than torn ligaments.
