Cue the Star Wars music. This, I suppose is the official game 1 of the Colin Kaepernick era. If you don’t know the story, it’s a pretty good one of a kid born in Milwaukee, adopted and raised in Turlock, CA. He was a phenomenal athlete no matter what he did, and was an outstanding pitcher and all-league basketball player at Pitman High in Turlock. He was recruited by a bunch of colleges for baseball and basketball, but only University of Nevada Reno offered him a football scholarship. After a stellar college career, he ended up as the only guy to evern throw for over 10,000 yards, and rush for over 4,000 yards in a college career.

Indeed it’s time to see who live with not talking aabout the second string QB. What will be interesting to follow is if the animus toward that has been will be overcome by the incredibly powerful affliction that makes otherwise sane people clamor for *any* second string QB. A quite vocal fan club formed backing Guy Benjamin to replace Joe Montana after Guy went 1 for 1 in mop up duty against the Chargers in 1982.
My guess is that there will be a groundswell of support for a new QB after Kap throws one too many passes into the “mouth-watering lickable hands” of the opposing cornerback. But the call will be for the ever popular Nate Davis, said to be already halfway through the Jimmy Raye playbook.

I woukd give ‘The Druck” the edge no doubt. Leaf was the Charger guy, he was said by many to better than our second string QB.Nate had more problems than a learning disability-his willingness to learn was qiuestioned. Since this was the Sing era, I’d question their evaluation, but when he hadn’t gotten a grasp by his second camp ,well, enough said.
I remember distinctly listening to an interview with Sing on KNBR as I was driving on I-80 a few years ago. I even posted his exact comments on my blog (maybe Chuck’s too). Leaf has become as successful out of football as he was in the NFL. In June he was sentenced to five years on felony drug, burglary charges.
