Game Day # 6 ! Revenge of the (Ni)Ner(d)s ! !

After a pretty quiet week, Kevin (punch me in the throat) Gilbride decided to whine about Justin Smith’s apparent murderous holding infractions while playing defensive tackle. Disregarding the obvious notion that DTs are usually the ones behing held, Jim Harbaugh fired back his own incendiary comments, calling the claims, well incendiary. Thing is, DTs hold. They all do it. Smith will hold 2 guys if it’ll give Willis a clean path to a ball carrier. Since this is something that is never called, or even looked for, you have to wonder what the fuck Gilbride is squalking about. Although you have to take into accoun\t Tom Coughlin’s comments that he’s curious as to why his team comes in as the underdog.

Really, Tom? You are on the road against a team with a better record than you? And you are going to play the ‘poor us’ card? Maybe if you had beaten the Iggles, people would take you more seriously. If anything the Giants have to be one of the most whining teams in the history of football. And it starts with Coughlin. He’s constantly whining to the refs, the media, his coaches, his players, his grandma, and anyone else within earshot. Time for a beat-down. As crappy as the Giants have looked, I don’t think they play as shitty as they did against the Browns or Cowboys. This will be a tough game, one that means a lot more to NY than the Niners, but in the end, the Niners prevail, 28-20.

SHout out to the SF Giants and their quest for the World Series title.

Alex will bounce back- he’s undeniably shown that . Of more concern going forward is the inabilty to consistenly pressure the QB and even more distressing, how the front seven gave up.

    • 12th man says:

      DB’s too.

    • Del Mar Dennis says:

Simple question, TF. Do you approve and think this 2 QB system 75%/25% or whatever the hell it is benefits the team? I think it’s a goddamn joke. You don’t see Brady, Brees or any of the Manning’s getting the hook as the call goes out to the bullpen.

If I were Alex, I’d walk into Jimbo’s office and tell ’em to shove it up his ass. Play me ALL the time, or don’t play me at all. But as we all know, he’s too meek and humble…

Harbaugh wouldn’t be pulling this stupid stunt if Peyton were here.
Which reminds me…Did we sign Peyton Manning yet?

      • twinfan1 says:

I answered it already. Pay attention. Kappy should be sitting on the pine with a clipbpoard for now. And STFU about Manning. He’ll be lucky to get them to 8-8. Did Elway get T-Blow back yet?

      • Del Mar Dennis says:

Sorry. I will not STFU about Manning. That’s been my premise all along…We’d be that much better with him at QB. Instead? We’re running this stoopid college 2-QB system.

Did we fire Jim Harbaugh yet?

      • twinfan1 says:

No, your premise all along has been an obsessive hatred for Smith that landed you on a 49er security watch list.

      • Flavor says:

haha is that true? That’s fucking hilarious……

  2. 12th man says:

I don’t think 4-2 is a bad place to be, I predicted 11-5 and we are on schedule for that. What is worrisome is how we lost, beaten soundly in pretty much every phase of the game. Like Kevin said, playoffs will be mighty short if we can’t hang with better teams.

  3. Winder says:

Out coached once again. We did stink it up today but hopefully we can take something out of it and not do it again. Just a real bad day for the whole team

  4. Grumpy Guy says:

Well, it was a great game.

    For ONE quarter.

Seriously, what can you say? We got our asses kicked. Way too many mistakes.

Who looked good today? Manningham. Boone & AD did not seem to get manhandled on the O-line. Bowman had some impressive tackles.

Other than that, it was Suck City.

How did we suck? Let us count the ways…

Kaep did not really look much better than Alex throwing, and Alex had a rough damned day at the office. Too many bad decisions by both. Too much pressure and breakdowns in pass pro.

Our ‘Elite’ defense wasn’t, today. Rogers had a horrid day; T-Brown and Culliver were not much better. The defensive front seven looked thoroughly beaten late in the game as the run defense fell apart. Penalties. Missed Field goals. Shaky ST coverage.

Now we have a short week to prepare for a sky-high Seahag team that just shocked the Bradys.

Need to get back on track quickly with our newly competitive division, or it’s going to be an uphill chase sown the stretch.

  5. twinfan1 says:

Everybody except the Menace and the Bug Boy understand that the whole team had a poor game, and certainly the QB, as always, needs to take most of the heat. Deservedly so.
Now that the reasonable people have spoken to the disaster that was today, it’s time to move on as the team will surely do as they prepare to defeat Seattle and restore some order in the division, Denny, RT: you’re Don’t hurt your pets.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Well, there’s your throw-away game. They were beaten in every phase, and I really think they have to stop getting cute with the Kappy thing. They killed 3 of their own drives doing that. Mistakes, shitty coverage, lousy pass pro, on and on.

Disoncerting is the complete lack of pressure from the defense. Blitzes were picked up easily. Coverage was awful, and as the game went on, the Giants ran down our throats.

The hope is we return the favor in the playoffs.

Quick turnaround for us. Kappy needs to be toned way down. Pressure needs to be gotten.

  7. rtfirefly2 says:

Is that all, Crabby? How did Alex do today?

  8. Flavor says:

    tough game. Embarrassing.
3 things that were most concerning:
    1) the pressure on the Giants was non-existent.
    2) The Kappy shit was so completely horrible that it’s impossible to not see how that affected the flow of the offense.
    3) Alex Smith threw balls today that were incomprehensibly awful. It was like he wasn’t even looking at the coverage……
the first problem is, in my opinion, the biggest problem. They need to get this fixed.
The second problem isn’t even an issue if the Kappy secret weapon shit is working. But when it fails four times, derailing 4 drives, that just can not happen. Either Harbaugh is getting ready to give the job to Kappy (which I can’t imagine he’s doing) or he needs to stop doing this in the middle of the game. This isn’t college it’s the fucking NFL. That shit has to work or you can’t run it……..
The third problem is just not an issue. ALex had a bad game, it happens. But if this keeps happening, yeah, it would be a huge problem……..

  9. rtfirefly2 says:

Alex has worked himself into a superior QB in the NFC. But today he was Bad Alex and really, really stunk on National TV.
He gets another chance on National TV this short week. Let’s just see, Crabby, if Bad Alex can go away and Good Alex can play ball.

    • Flavor says:

yes, it’s impossible to deny that he was anything less than horrible. We should be looking at why the entire TEAM was bad, though. The pass rush was horrible, the pass coverage (maybe a result of the shitty pass rush) was often not within 5 feet of the receiver when the ball was arriving, and the Kappy-calls were like grenades exploding on the drives.
Alex was leading the NFL in both passer ratings this week (and I say *both* because Denny went out of his way last year to *educate* us on how the espn rating was the new way to go). So he had a bad game. Now was that on the game plan (as I suspect it was) or was that on him?
To me, this game is 98% on Harbaugh and his staff. They got beat by the other staff who knew where to put there athletes from play to play……….

  10. rtfirefly2 says:

The pass rush was horrible, Flavor, because the Giants went to a quick set, no huddle offense. Manning calling the defense out on the line, so the whole Giants team knew what was coming. D didn’t get a chance to breathe, after Eli went after the jugular in the 2nd. The floating duck changed the game.

  11. Grumpy Guy says:

We played all right for 15 minutes or so. Then, gradually, the game got away form us. The defense, particularly the secondary, could not make a play to save their lives. As we fell behind, we gave up on running the ball with Gore, just as we did against the Vikings. The trickeration with Kaepernick just led to more fiascoes, and as the pressure mounted, Alex started making what can only be described as panicky, awful decisions. It all went to shit, so much so that our D’s front seven just packed it in for the last ten minutes. That was the most shocking thing to me (and to the press box observers, from what I’m reading, lots of mumbles of “Wow” as the team got bitchslapped at the end).

Still, it’s not the end of the world. We’re 4-2 and still looking like a team that can get in the playoffs. But we cannot afford too many more stinkers like today and Minnesota.

We’re going to need to show some sterner stuff Thursday Night and in the following two divisional games.

It’s not time to panic. But some concern is in order. We need to find an offensive identity and stick with it. And decide, for the most part, who our quarterback is going to be this year. Two or three Wildkap trick plays a game is one thing; 20 snaps is just schizophrenia in action: neither guy can get any continuity going.

  12. Grumpy Guy says:

I don’;t believe Kaepernick is truly ready quite yet. But better to give him the job than to keep splitting it and have neither get any continuity. Either way, make a choice. This ain’t 1961, JH, and you ain’t Red Hickey.

  13. Flavor says:

I was on board with the Kappy-calls as long as they were working. And they seemed to bamboozle the defenses earlier in the year.
But today was a blatant, obvious failure and the Kappy-calls felt like something you’d call in college. And that’s bush-league for a guy who’s supposed to be beyond and above that……..

  14. Winder says:

What a fucked up day for SF sports.

  15. unca_chuck says:

Yikes. I pity the folks that thought, “Let’s go to the Niner game AND the playoff game!”

  16. rtfirefly2 says:

Chuck, you’ve got to take the wins and the losses, both. Who was the HC before Zero called it with Jim Harbaugh? The HC before that? Before that? Don’t jump ship. This team is missing Roger Staubach, Joe Montana. but Alex can be good QB on a good day.
If this keeps up, Moss will jump and my doomsday prediction about him will start to eat at the team.
It has to stop now. On Thursday.

My goodness, doomsday prediction? Dang you are really an ardent Forty-Niner Faithful, NOT!!!
Playing both sides rarely results in a decent outcome and shows a bandwagon mindset.

  17. unca_chuck says:

No one is jumping ship. Throw away this game and start over. Burn the tape. Whatever.

I just don’t understand taking Smith out after he’d driven the team 60 yards in 10 plays on that 1st drive. They stalled. A couple drives later they bring him in and threy false start to kill another drive.

Harbaugh and Roman have to stop fucking around with this. There’s surprising the opposition, and then there’s overdoing it to the point of ineffectiveness. If I’m Smith I have to be wondering why I’m getting taken out seemingly at random at crunch time during drives.

Shit game all around. The defense got no pressure. ANd they made no adjustements at the half. ST returns are suddenly a big issue.

But it starts and ends with the coaching. They sucked. Now we have 3 divisional games that are going to be a big determining factor to our success this year. They need to stop fucking around with this gimmick bullshit Come up with a solid game plan and stop abandoning the run.

  18. Del Mar Dennis says:

He had to get back on that plane from Miami…
Did we fire Barry Switzer yet?

Back in the early ’80’s the Dolphins used a two-QB system consisting of David Woodley and Don Strock better known as “Woodstrock.” Today our Niners implement the tag team duo of Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick that “JustSucksCock.”

  19. phil fan says:

Gee fellas I never thought I’d be happy the f-ing coconut internet crashed hour before game time, but after checking the score and reading 1% of the comments here I’M FUCKING GLAD THE FUCKING INTERNET Crashed….kinda reminds me of:

Man In Critical Condition After Being Shot Trying To Slaughter Pig

The pig of course is the NY Giants. The ‘man shot’ is the Niners. The man doing the shooting? G-Ro. WTF are we trying to be a passing team for? To misquote Del Mar: Run the fucking ball.

Same shit as the Vikes game = that’s not who we are.
