Game Day – AP or Bust

Stop AP and you stop the Vikes. Funny thing is, I think Ponder comes out throwing midrange passes to try and put the Niners on their heels.  Stopp Jared Allen and you comtain their D. This shouldn’t be too hard. This is game 3 vs an NFC North opponent. This should be win 3 vs an NFC North opponent.

Smith should go prety big today. Over 250? That is his high water mark. 250 in the air, 150 on the ground and all is good.

I can’t imagine they’re gonna try to run much on us–maybe some token shit early just to try to get lucky. I own AP on both my fantasy teams and he’s sitting this week.

  2. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

I dunno Singletron IS a special assistant to da head coach. Maybe Christian Ponder will come out blazing

  3. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I think the Niners missed their early wake up call. Narcolepsy at its best on this opening drive by the D.

    First and goal…

    Nice fucking coverage

Terrible pass to Moss. Niners look like shit today

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I put equal blame on that INC. Pass was definitely high, but I think Moss didn’t give full effort on his extension to meet the ball at its apex.

  9. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Didn’t I see where the Niners are now the #1 ranked power team?

  10. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

    Moss blown catch

  11. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Nice stunt by Aldon to pressure Ponder.

  12. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

Pressure by Aldon on Ponder = punt

  13. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

How could I? I forgot to put my Niner cap on. No wonder.

  14. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Smith missed Moss on that one big time. Have to settle for three by our MVP.

  15. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

    Ponder looking pretty good

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Alex’s YPA for today is 4.5 That’s even substandard for Check down Charlie himself.

  17. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

When did Ponder become Steve Young?

  18. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Giving up 3rd and 11 is just plain inexcusable.
But not as inexcusable as allowing that TD run by Ponder.

    Jesus H. Fucking Christ.

  19. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

    Blown D Ponder scores

  20. IH1972's avatar IH1972 says:

Ponder is just kicking our ass all over the field today

Shotgun snap to Alex’s feet. Get it together boys.

  25. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

yeah it’s sloppy so far on O. Crabtree playing well but our run game not happening

Now our MVP has his kick blocked.

And now the Vikings want more. Shit on a stick.

  30. IH1972's avatar IH1972 says:

    Points for the mook! 😀

    • 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

Have to go spread more and throw beyond 10 yds. Have to risk a safety closer to the line of scrimmage and trust the corners to handle without a man over the top. Have to blitz more to get ponder out of his comfort zone. Up the risk all around or lose the game.

  35. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Wasted Kyle’s great KR and had to settle for just 3.
A TD could have turned old “Mo” around. That was actually a small victory for the Vikes given the circumstances.

  36. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

Defense might need to score a TD today. Our O is asleep at the wheel

  37. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

WTF did Williams fair catch that ball? He was clear by 10 yds of any Viking defender.
    Pussy.

  38. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

AP is avg. 2.3 yds/rush today.I’ll ask once again. Why does anyone even bother to run against us? I would THROW THE GODDAMN BALL each and every down and even tell them ahead of time of my intentions.

  39. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

    13 yards to Manningham

  40. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

Speed picking up for the O. VD TD

  41. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The run game finally worked. Hated the short shit passing game in the 1st half. Time for the D to force a turnover.

  42. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

  43. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

We caught a big break on that TD. That was illegal procedure.
Thank Christ for the replacements. “The Replacements” (2000) starring Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman. Not the worst sports movie in the world. I give it 3 beers out of a 6-pack.

    • Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

That Movie was funny as hell, I give it 5 beers out of six for the comedy a lone!!

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Kevin, you’re right. Upon further review this replacement ref has upped “The Replacements” to 4 beers. I can’t go as high as 5. But if you multiply 4×5 that will be my beer consumption for today.

  44. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

D is getting pissed and playing with some spark

  45. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Minn is running, passing whatever they want!!

  46. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I have Percy Harvin on 5/6 of my FF teams. Don’t blame me, that’s Frank’s guy.

Another example of how the players are influencing these refs. A player begs for a call and its granted. Been happening since Week 1. The substitute teacher analogy by Mike Tirico was spot on.

  47. IH1972's avatar IH1972 says:

    Ballgame.

  48. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

How the fuck did Rudolph catch that? That’s worthy of putting on a “shiny new nose” courtesy of elf booze.

  49. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

So Kyle Williams can return kicks, but not punts.
I’ll make a mental note. i hope the Niners do as well.

  50. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Time for the Niners to show some resolve. This is still winnable. Good runback by Williams. Get a quick TD here, then bring the heavy metal on D. If they go on to lose this one, it’s totally on the Defense. Fangio must be about ready to jump out of the window of the coach’s box…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Well, I was going to say they can’t bear to have any TOs now, but I thought better of it. Now, Gore let’s one loose…

  51. phil fan's avatar philippinefan says:

Fumble Gore. Niners too many poor plays. Vikes better today

  52. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That’s a Frank fumble. This shit’s getting overturned. If the replacements don’t get this right, Mel Brooks will kill their first born male child. “Too Jewish.”

  53. IH1972's avatar IH1972 says:

Ball game again, when it gets overturned

  54. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The Vikings have a priest standing on their sideline. WTF do we have, the flaky dead corpse of Mother Teresa?

  55. 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

Why are we in a huddle now?

  56. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

They should be in the two minute here. Don’t know why they’re so sluggish at this point in the ball game…

  57. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Shit. We needed to hold ’em to a 3 and out near their own goal line. At the very least that gives ’em punting room…

  58. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I can’t believe the Vikes pass play calls on that series. Why they didn’t just run and run to take clock off, then almost throw a pick 6; that’s weird…

  59. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Ugly play all the way around

  60. IH1972's avatar IH1972 says:

Why the fuck did we get Randy Moss? D just giving up now, tired

  61. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I woulda used my first TO after that 1st dn run, but I don’t get paid to be a HC in the NFL.

  62. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    Well, can’t win ’em all.
Fangio has some head scratching to do on this one. Gonna be a long week in Youngstown. I wouldn’t want to be the Jets offense this next Sunday…

  63. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Nice to know Harbaugh didn’t care if they won today…

  64. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

The Niners offens is just plain flat today. And for whatever reason the defense looks lost today. Minn has dominated on both sides fo the ball. Chalk this up as a learning experience. Nothing more nothing less. I did not expect the Niners to go 16-0. So I tip my cap to Minn for a great game plan and move on.

  65. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

There best offense today was Kyle Williams.

  68. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That shirt makes Tony Siragusa look like he’s the family table at the local Italian restaurant.

  69. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Offense did not do well, but this one’s really on the defense. They were totally dominated in the first half, the offense didn’t get much of a chance to do anything then. But, it was an all around loss. Even a blocked FG. Good wake up call early in the season is the way I’d look at it…

  70. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Fangio’s plan was awfful. They had a 2nd year QB eager to throw INTs and they didn’t go after him..

  71. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

First 3 plays – 3 passes, three and out.
Second 3 plays – 2 passes, three and out
    Drive, finally – 9 passes, 2 runs
Net from the first three drives: 3 points

Did you I fail to mention Defense, Ball Control, RUNNNNNING GAME yet today?

  72. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

These replacement officials are a goddamn joke. We were just given a gift. Christmas comes early to SF.

    Kill Roger Goodell!

  73. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

    TO,Not TO,TO,Not TO,…Oh no.TO’s avalaible no problem,only in Scab football.Nice break for us,even gave us a 4th TO .

  74. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

These refs are just are awful. Could it be they’re using our balll dudes?

  75. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

the Vikings DESERVED that INT from Alex.

I’m embarrassed for these refs. But life everyone else, I’m still watching.
And that’s all the NFL and Goodell gives a rat’s ass about.
Kill his first born male child!

  76. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

You take Goodell, Dennis, but I get Jerry Jones.

  77. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Harbaugh working these Scabs to the max atleast.Working with his 6th TO ,setting a new TO Record.

  78. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

OMG, Alex threw a pick. Can’t we get it overturned because of, uh, well, how about icing the puck?

  79. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

And so now Jimbo will lose the TO that he shouldn’t of had in the first place after that last debacle of a TO called/challenge.

    Make Roger Goodell drink hemlock!

  80. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Scabs took away all of Harbaugh’s challenge flags, but did give him 3 more timeouts to use.
Geez…Toby is a fucking fumbling machine.

  81. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

    Timeout! Call TIMEOUT!

  82. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Wow, talk about garbage time. Garbage on all sides. Just finish this and get out before somebody gets hurt…

  83. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Another fumble for Toby? I’m calling fixed. Jimbo must have paid his ex-Stanford star for that shit.

Alex fumbled. We DESERVED that shit too. This game is a goddamn embarrassment.

    Go key Goodell’s car!

  84. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

I benched Christian Ponder yesterday. Reno is laughing his ass off.

  85. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

What a wild fucking game with the Lions and Titans.Lions get an onside kick, down 7,then get a doug flutie hail mary to send it into OT,fucking unreal.Of course they won’t show the rest of it cause Heidi is coming on.

  86. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

    Well, that sucked.

Got our asses kicked on both sides of the ball. Defense could not make a play to save their life when it still counted. D-Line got their asses kicked. Whitner drops a pick six. On offense, Alex missed Moss twice early when it mattered, and just seemed a little off today. We couldn’t sustain drives, and could not stop theirs.

At least you can’t blame this one on Kyle WIlliams.

Just a shitty day at the office. Not the end of the world – I expected to lose two or three we should have won this year, this was just the first. Hopefully we get our shit together before we go to play the Jets.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

I’ve been watching the Jets today. Sanchez has to be one of the worst starting QBs in the league. Without their D and running game (and the fact that the Fins suck), they’d have lost 20-0 already.

  87. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

The late hit call on Goldson was the turning point. Instead of holding the Vikes, they gave up 7. Shoulder pads to the chest is illegal now.

  88. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

And as bad as the end of this game was, the replacement refs doing their usual Keystone Cops routine seemed kind of fitting. Counting to three is hard, I guess.

  89. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Fuck. Ing. Dis. Grace. Ful.The N.F.L. O. “Fish” Uhls.

  90. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

If the Steelers end up losing to the Raiders. My day will have gone from bad to passing up “Worse” at the corner of 3rd and Market to hopping on #13 Muni that sends me straight to hell.

Hello, Puppy Killer. You and I need to talk.

  91. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Great call by coach Tomlin and the Steelers on 4th and 1. Not the winning move, but it still gives them a chance…now they go 3 and out on their nest series…

    Fuck Oakland.

  92. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

News for y’all: Peyton is baaaaack. The Broncs should never leave the no-huddle.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

He’s back? Hitting 50% of his passes is “back”? Absurd.
That raider game was actually fun to watch

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Did you see the game after the Broncs went no-huddle to stop the Texans pass rush? Peyton threw three TD passes in 7 minutes – only 2 counted. No picks.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

going no-huddle is a great way to break up the pace of the game but it’s not something done in the NFL over the course of an entire game.
A guy like Manning will always thrive in the no-huddle but it’s not realistic to expect him to run it *all the time*. Not only does it tire out the defense who can’t get subs in but it does the same thing to your fat offensive line. They can’t do it all game……..
He picked up some td’s when they went no-huddle. No duh. Guys that throw the ball 52 times over the course of the game are going to get their yards and their td’s. His QB rating was still right around Smith’s today (and he was painfully average)…….

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Wade Phillips is one of the best D coordinators in the game. Peyton was tearing them apart after they went no-huddle to stop the rush. A 20 point lead went to 6 in minutes and with a D stop (which the Broncs couldn’t do all game), Peyton would have had the ball back with 2 min more than he wound up with. Wade was shitting his pants.

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

McGahee was out the whole second half so they knew Peyton had to pass. Fox tried to go the Sing run, run, pass offense and wasted a whole bunch of time. He’ll learn now that he saw Peyton throw in the 4th.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

Peyton’s showing he’s healthy this year. He’s not showing that he’s the same QB. Picking a few minutes of no huddle to show he’s *back* is just idiotic.
Look, he had a 129 QB rating followed by a 58.5 and then today’s pedestrian 82.5— and that’s even worse when you see he didn’t throw a pick. His Y/A was ugly and dragged it down (as well as his completion %).
He’s not back. He’s just *one o’ the guys” who throws a shitload of passes every game. When he starts completing 65%+ of his passes and gets his QB rating back into the high 90’s, low 100’s then he’s *back*.
But that ain’t happening. This is who he is. Just *a guy*.

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Just another guy with 330 yards 2 TDs 0 INTS against one of the best defenses in the league – half the game without his star running back. Coming off 18 month layoff.
        Just another guy. Whatever.

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

52 pass attempts and 300+ yards is pedestrian. And his 6.2 Y/A tell a different story than the one you’re trying to sell us on.
He’s healthy enough to not be getting murdered when he gets sacked. That should be the thing to celebrate…..for now.

  93. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

You know what’s sad? SD didn’t come close to selling out their stadium.

  95. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Congrats Del Mar you are 1-2 on yer W-L predictions so far. Looking forward to seeing the widget update re: yer contest w/Flavor. Break a leg. Crack a cold one. On the Scoring Challenge you had the Vikes winning by 4 which was the closest to the actual spread of them by 11. (Touchdown Tommy had the Vikes winning by 1 and scoring 31).

Chuck nailed the exact score 24-13! But Vikes had the 24, shit, damn, fuck it.

Everyone else had the Niners scoring no less than 16 and the Vikings no more than 13 so we are going to have to reconsider what happens when the heavily favored Niners don’t show up to play on any given Sunday. Shit like this will not be forgotten- even if quickly forgiven.

Jets should be an interesting game. Cheers. Go Niners!

  96. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Echoing comments by 12th man and Winder: Harbaugh didn’t open up the O until very late- 3rd Q?- even when he ‘had to’. No spread, no hurry up, nothing. Musta been channeling Singletron via Vulcan mind probe. Only thing worse was the D game plan: no pressure on the young QB who someone said was “begging to be intercepted”. Where was the vaunted 49ers pass rush?

We just didn’t want this game very much, certainly far less than the Vikings.

    • TOUCHDOWN TOMMY's avatar TOUCHDOWN TOMMY says:

      phil fan

You are asking for Harbaugh to open up the offense? Vikings bitch slapped the 49ers at their own game. Ball possession through long drives. 49ers out of character with only 20 running plays and 38 passes. Vikings ran 18 more plays than the 49ers which also accounts for the loss as I predicted. 49ers have never won or depended on the spread
so why we thinking it’s the answer?
Reading so much shit coming out because of the loss. 49ers thank you for your loyalty, not!

      • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

        UH sure Vardel whatevah…

It may seem incredible TDT but Yes me and a lotta fans of our beloved San Francisco Forty Niners Are and have been begging, screaming, whining and occasionally PRAYING fer this franchise to actually, you know, play the WC Offense like we know how. So I apologize if this offends you Tomas but yep “Dats what we do”. Might throw a little spread in there to keep ya on yer widdow pinkies, my friend. Seeing as the great Bill Walsh ain’t our coach at the moment.

Say Tommy your badass Vikes have won how many League Championship Titles? Right that would be the Pack. Please don’t compensate for yer historic inadequacies on the gridiron here. Deal? Fine, we accept.

Yes we got a dose of our own medicine, no argument. We were outplayed Mr. Tommy feller, no contest. In the manner you so ‘scientifically’ described. Fine, bitch. Hey you, TDT, WON THE FUCKING GAME yet you come on here (where we have never had the pleasure of seeing/hearing yer incredible words of wisdom) and shoot yer over large mouf off, thumpn’ yer gigantic chest, screaming in our sad faces and in your humble, astute manner Thanking Us for our loyalty to OUR team? Nice of you feller.

Gee Tommy thanks…and Fuck You Dickwad. We’ll be back and your guys will know it. Perhaps it troubles yer underachieving team loyalties to see us upset. Or perhaps in the manner of losers everywhere you get off on it? Stroke it while ya can big boy of the recent 3-13 Viking warriors.

Phil, it ain’t worth the neurons to engage in deceitful diologues. I did so just enough to show it for what it is and that’s it. As for no history of Niners winning with the spread I would point to 2 wins last year doing exactly that.
What I was disappointed with was the lack of urgency and staying so conservative so long both sides of the ball. Our D linemen weren’t getting pressure any yet we barely blitzed and when we did it wasn’t well disguised. 2 corner blitzes were so obvious at the LOS that ponder changed the play and the ran it away from the blitz.
The whole organization was flat, with only Williams showing dynamic plays, which we absolutely wasted by being so conservative.
The ideology is right, playing East coast, loud hostile environment, play it tight and no mistakes, cool. But once it’s clear that the guys aren’t making it happen, which was obvious before half time, the scheme had to change. After the half they did make some minor adjustments and had 3rd Q success, but were still in a hole. I remember looking at the clock with 11+ mins to go and still huddling, no sense of urgency, still throwing only underneath stuff. Nothing to keep the Vikes off balance. They should have gone to the 4 min offense with 11 to go because the Vikes had shown all day the ability to keep long drives going so our O possesions would be limited.

I know most guys here saw similar things, it just seems crazy to have all these weapons at WR and have them on the bench watching the team lose.

      Flashbacks of Nolanterry.

In the big picture it’s a bump in the road, Niners won’t win them all and 2-1 is what most expected after week 3 even if it was different wins/losses. I just hope Harbaugh understood that his winning formula won’t work for every team, most it will but not all, so he needs to recognize it earlier in games and have a plan B that isn’t simply a slight massaging of plan A.

Soap box moment over, sorry for the long post guys and girls.

As for the dumb posters, forget it, we know who is worth talking to and who references little girls on other blogs.
