Game Day – AP or Bust

Stop AP and you stop the Vikes. Funny thing is, I think Ponder comes out throwing midrange passes to try and put the Niners on their heels.  Stopp Jared Allen and you comtain their D. This shouldn’t be too hard. This is game 3 vs an NFC North opponent. This should be win 3 vs an NFC North opponent.

Smith should go prety big today. Over 250? That is his high water mark. 250 in the air, 150 on the ground and all is good.

Oh lord. Why do I even bother?

In and of itself, a lethergic and shitty game. Travel? Letdown? Whatever it was, the team looked flat and listless. The D line was manhandled all day, they couldn’t stop 3rd downs, the O was out of synch and crappy. Smith was off on the passes to Moss. The blocking wasn’t too bad, but the Niners didn’t use Gore in the 1st half at all. They didn’t mix things up well enough, and got conservative late when they should have been going more aggressive.

One thing I noticed is, since all out WR routes were not very deep, the underneath plays didn’t work as the areas were clogged with players. Contrast that with Minnesota’s WRs running deeper routes, that cleared out the underneath, and they were able to get yard after the catches that the Niners weren;t.

In and of itself, a write-off game. If they go to NY, and stomp the shit out of the crap-ass Jets, all is well. This team needs to make a statement that they can beat a shitty team. If they struggle offensively/defensively and/or lose, then there may be problems.

Tough day but onward and upward. J-E-T-S sure as heck aren’t looking forward to a Niner team that just lost the way they did.

So, like I’ve been saying for a while now, I wish they would run longer routes with the WRs. 15 yard passes rather than 6-8 yard passes. It’s great that they are throwing to the wideouts, but there were no deep balls short of the pass to VD.

Not scoring a TD after the 96 yard punt was flat awful. Their red zone O is still too conservative. Turnovers killed. Without Jacobs, they ainl;t getting runs up the middle. Play action down there WORKS.
