Ahmad Brooks Get his Payday

The Niners took their first step in trying to keep the team relatively intact for the 2012 season by signing Ahmad Brooks to a 6 year $44.5 million contract, with $17.5 mill of that guaranteed. If you haven’t heard the story of Brooks, it’s one of inconsistency. He was thrown off of the Virginia footabll team, and was picked in the 3rd round of the supplemental draft. He had a few up-and-down years with them as an inside linebacker, usually showing up for camp out of shape. The Niners picked him up on waivers in ’08 and switched him to OLB, and he worked his way into the lineup. After his father passed away suddenly in 2010, Ahmad has worked much harder at staying in shape, and perfecting his game. He’s excited to be here, and has gotten his due. And yeah, they signed CJ Spillman to a 3 year $6 million contract the other day. And, in front office news, Gideon Yu, the Chief Strategic Officer, and the ex-CFO of both Facebook and Youtube, was named President and Co-owner of the team. He was instrumental in getting the stadium financing from the NFL and the banks.

Still waiting to see what’s next on the horizon, but as of now, the team looks as if it really has a clue these days. If Jed York doesn’t watch out, he actually may start getting props for being among the up-and-coming young guns in the NFL ownership clan. Giving A. Brooks that much money can be argued, but it looks like they want to try and keep the team intact. They have some tough signings to consider. The biggest remaining are Alex, Goldson, and Rogers. If they try to sign all 3, they will shell out a LOT of money. But, with the stadium seemingly happening very soon, the onus is to keep the team in the playoffs, and at some point soon hopefully win the big prize.

Great to get Brooks locked down.Man we have “STUD” Linebackers!!!!
Willis and Bowman All Pro,Brooks and Haralson not to shabby as well.I see them throwing the Franchise tag on Goldson for sure.He still can lay a lick, had 6 picks,i see him getting even better.Rodgers wants to stay,so he might take a discount,we will see.
Hey WTF let’s put the Franchise tag on Kyle Williams for his stellar play against NY.

  2. Hey Kat ya had me following along pretty good until the Kyle Williams crack. Yeah we still got the franchise tag to play with so maybe Goldson now we got Brooks locked up. But between DG and Rogers my heart sez “Rogers” for the tag. Best scenario would be lock Goldson for 5 years @ $25-30 Mil or franchise and sign Carlos for 3 years. Can we afford this? Dunno.

Despite the howls from Del Mar we still have to sign Mr Smith to a Long Term Contract. He’s earned it, now how much will it cost us?

It’e looking like either Goldson or Rogers gets tagged. Since safeties are cheaper, Goldson is the one . . .

I think it all comes down to how much other teams are willing to offer Rogers. If he wants something like an Asuomaga $10-12 mill deal, then he’s gone.

Unless the dude’s name is Ronnie Lott and he’s a clone of the original, no DB is worth $10-12 million/year…

Baalke would never pay that kind of money for Rogers would he?

Goldson may have to be franchised while Rogers gets a 2 year deal. That way we keep both for another year.

Like the resign of CJ Spilman as well. That dude was making alot of great plays on Special Teams.Hope they keep Contstazo(sp) as well, another good blue collar player as well.

I think guys like Norriss, Peelle, Rachal, and R Smith are not going to be resigned. Ginn’s a big question mark. He’s going to be like the #4 WR, so his value is as a return guy. Whether he wants to take a small offer to stay or test the waters remains to be seen. Snyder is a question as well. I’d keep him, just for the stability factor. He has played all over the line, and is a solid guy. I’m sure he’d like stick around ow that the team is going well. They have Person and Trout waiting in the wings (which makes Chilo expendable), but they’ll likely draft some O line help around the 3rd round. The point being, Miller has invalidated Norriss’s’s’s limited value, Byham takes Peele’s spot ( and likely a late TE in the draft, and the team is high on Holcolm as the CB of the future. Whitner was solid if not spectacular, so they’ll probably keep him around as a backup.

Chuck who’s Trout? I don’t see him on their roster.Yeah you can put a fork in Moran he’s done.Should of never made the team last year if it wasn’t for the fact he’s Gore’s butt buddy and always begged the coaches to keep him.
Still feel they should make a run at FA Guard Carl Nicks and just keep Snyder as a backup.Wonder how much Tackle Alex Boone could contribute next year as well. And I want another RB in this Draft with size, though Dixon has that he must be in their doghouse.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I think Boone’s already signed. Nicks is going to be very pricey. I’s sure we’ll make some kind of offer, but I think they’ll take care of their own first.

Oops. It’s David Kilgore. I’ve been calling him Kilgore Trout for so long that I used the wrong name. He’s our 5th round pick. O lineman from Appalachian St.

TE Bynum should have a pretty good chip on his shoulder when he comes back this year: the disappointment of injury wiping out his ’11 season, all the yak-yak about this TE or that we could/should get, our (Harbaugh’s) emphasis on the TE position overall, etc. Hopefully he comes all the way back from the injury (to his knee?) to provide blocking and opportunistic catching (like Miller does). Freeing up Walker, Gore and Davis to attack even more. I like the forgotten kid from Penn State.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Rogers might commmand that kind of interest. Which is why he might go . . .

But if the Niners try to sign Brandon Carr, they’ll be in the same boat. Although Carr is younger . . .

  11. Dennis Heidi Blum sent tnis over and asked if I would forward it to youse:

Once upon a time in a land far away, a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess happened upon a frog as she sat contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant meadow near her castle.
The frog hopped into the princess’ lap and said: Elegant Lady, I was once a handsome prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me. One kiss from you, however, and I will turn back into the dapper young prince that I am, and then, my sweet, we can marry and set up housekeeping in your castle with my mother, where you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children, and feel forever grateful doing so.
That night, as the princess dined sumptuously on a repast of lightly sauted frogs legs seasoned in a wine and onion cream sauce she chuckled to herself and thought: I don’t fucking think so.
