I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

Shit. I just remembered that Berger has Alex on his FF team. Wouldn’t that be funny if I lost to him because of Alex? I’d need to schedule an extra session with my therapist.

Smith has had a very good game and a superb passer rating. He’ll likely be in the top 5 or 6 of all QB’s after the week is over.
BUt he has had at least 3 or 4 passes that were not on the mark that, if thrown better, would have been scores or big gains. He’s lucky none were intercepted. I just wanted to point this out since there is a bogus perception out there that all I do is smoke Alex’s pole….
Actually enjoying seeing him have a game like this at home. Not surprised really. Good coaching helps just a little wouldn’t ya say?

Well, the pass to Crabs in the end zoner was a miscommunication. A couple were underthrown.
All in all, though, not anything to complain about.
I’m giving no mention to the NLCS Game. Looks like the Brew Crew are out-slugging the Cards. I could care less. Do you know how many people are watching that game right now while the NFL is in action? You could count ’em on two hands…
The real improvement though is in the secondary. And the pass rush of the D line. This minimizes the risks the D has to take on blitzes.
Losing Clements was key. Rogers has been outstanding. Culliver was very good today. All of a sudden the secondary is pretty solid. They gained confidence, believe it or not, in the game last week even though they gave up 415 yards..
And that putz Vick scored a ton of FF points to make me lose a close one. But again I’ll take reality and the win.

What did we rush for today, 200 yards? Right around there. Hunter is a revelation and Frank Gore looks 3 times as fast this week as he did in previous weeks. “Hello, Identity”. It doesn’t hurt that we have the 5th or 6th highest rated QB in the league to fall back on…. 🙂

Well, Morgan paid for throwing deep up 41-3.
Flav, it was not a perfect game by Alex, true. But very, very impressive still. I call it the best game of his career – in fact, his first “Complete Game”…. he was cool and in command from the first drive to garbage time. I am not one to care a gnat’s shit about QBR or yardage or other stats. Tell me how he looked. Tell me if he made the plays he NEEDED to make, all afternoon long. Tell me if he avoided the turnovers and converted on third and long when the game was close.
Today, for maybe the first time, Alex passed the EYEBALL test. Not just for a drive or a quarter or a half, but all day long.
His best game ever. Period.

I said it would take 6 weeks for this to take hold and it obviously happened sooner than that. In some weird way, that makes me wrong just like poor Dennis…….
The thing that is remarkable about Alex is his confidence right now. He obviously believes he can get the job done. I don’t think he felt that way the last few years. He is avoiding the killer mistakes, and even when he makes an error, comes back and makes plays, rather than hanging his head and walking dejectedly off the field. He looks like a whole different guy out there.
I’d call it now 75% likely he stays in SF next year, and beyond. Startling turnaround from last December when it seemed he was gone no matter what.
Well, a very very satisfying win today. A beat down in every aspect of the game. A game we haven’t seen in these parts nigh since the Walsh days, if you believe the margin of victory. The blocking, so maligned 3 weeks ago, was exceptional against a supposedly tough front 7. The pass pro pitched a shutout and gained 205, and the Niners got 211 out of the run game. 125 for Gore.
The defensive secondary, much maligned as well, and a defense that has been underwhelming, is suddenly a ball-hawking turnover machine. Plus 10 as of now. West coast killers, my ass. Can’t say enough about the change in attitude. For all of us who have been dogging the coaching staff for its ability to get less than the sum of its collective parts, this is validation. The team, minus the secondary, is fairly similar to the one trotted out there the last 2 years.
Shame about Margan, though Hope he’s not hurt too bad.
side bar: but can someone tell me what exactly Al Davis died from? For the last several years, every time I saw him on tv at a game he was in a wheel chair with a blanket covering him. I don’t know what that was about, either. I’ve read several stories about his death, including his Eulogy (or whatever that’s called when something is written about him soon after death) but I haven’t seen anything that indicated the cause of death……
The scene of Jackson on his knees trying to force his tears from flowing was touching and something I’ll never forget……..

Twin, the pass to Morgan was not deep. That was short at the right sideline. Morgan ran it to the goal line most of the 20 yards. Got tangled up at the goal line trying to get in. Just one of those things.
The injury looked serious, probably an ankle. Hopefully not a season-ending thing, but it could be lengthy.
