Game Day – Philly Philly Philly

Don’t see much of a chance against Philly, unless there is constant pressure from the get-go, the 49ers force some early turnovers, and the are-we-not-so-sucky O line can figure out how to pass protect. And run block. These two teams have had some interesting games over the years. I read a wonderful thing in the paper in that before last week’s loss to the Giants, the Iggles hadn’t given up 4 TDs in the air since Joe Montana dropped 5 TDs on Philly in 1989. 4 of those TDs of course came in the 4th quarter. Then there was the beat-down that Philly laid on SF in 1994 (40-8?), where Young went ballistic when George Seifert pulled him out of the game. The players themselves said it was the turning point of the season, and the Niners won 10 in a row, and closed the season 13-1 and went on to win the Super Bowl.

Recent history hasn’t been so kind. In 2005, Tim Rattay was chased and harassed to the tune of a 42-3 beat-down. In 2006, the Eagles ruined one of Alex Smith’s best days when he went 27 for 46, 293 yards, and one TD en route to a 38-24 loss. The 2008 debacle was the death knell for Mike Nolan. Going into the 4th quarter with a 9 point lead, Gore at 98 yards on the ground, and possession of the ball, the Niners (and JT O’Fuckmeagain) fumbled and pick-sixed their way to a demoralizing 40-26 loss. Gore had 6 yards rushing on 3 attempts, with the LEAD. This prompted the Nolan firing a week later, and the throttling of the pass-happy Mike Martz by Mike Singletary. 2009? Well, a 3 pick day by Alex sealed that game, a 27-13 ho-hum loss. Last year’s game was another close-but-not-quite loss. Alex had his only 300 yard game in his career, going 25 for 39, and 309 yards. However, he skipped a screen pass off Gore for a pick, and gave Philly 6 points on a misguided attempt to salvage a broken play. He instead fumbled and Philly took it to the house. Another close comeback thwarted by the misfortunes of the Singletary-led 49ers.

I’m not expecting miracles. I am hoping for better line play, continued improvement by the secondary, and some consistent drives. If the Niners can keep it low-scoring, thaey have a chance. A track meet doesn’t bode well.

We’re still just seeing where they rank against everyone else. They started off with a pretty favorable schedule. I love that. This team will get better as the yr goes on, as I said before the season started. Get into the playoffs at 9-7 or whatever and be the secret-dagger team. I fucking love it. Tomorrow is a loss, don’t get the details of that caught in your panties as you peel them off tonight….

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Well, as these guys showed, they can sometimes hang around some good teams. No mistakes, and we’ll see. Philly is having problems integrating their dream team, and they’ve given up rushing yards AND passing yards early on. That being said, winning IN Philly? Not likely. It would be all the talk, though.

If the Niners somehow win, you’ll hear the cry for Andy Reid’s head from here. 1-3 with the dream team is not the start they envisioned. They’d be in desperate straits from the get-go. I’d love it.

  3. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

I too have lowered expectations. Play a good game, no turnovers, penalties, improved OL, good running and passing. We win it will be a shock, not just to them but I’ll take it. I’ll tune in and catch the game, hopefully we will continue to improve, all you can ask.

  4. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Gore will start today, and it looks like Maclin will as well for the Eagles.

  5. robd's avatar robd says:

we can win this one if vick is playing hurt imo

  6. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Ignore my last comment. At least the first part…
Gore is active, but Kendall Hunter will start.

I think this is the beginning of the end for Frank. I’m sure glad Jed’s winner of his nation-wide search for a GM signed him to an extension.
    Fucking mook.

  7. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Who drafted Frank in our fantasy leagues?

You need to go hang with Baalke. Mook.

  8. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

inactives: WR Edwards, FB Norris, OL Kilgore, OL Person, QB Tolzien, DL Williams, DL Dobbs.

At least Kyle Williams isn’t on that list. Now I just hope they let ’em play today.

Snyder will start at RG today as well. Fucking Chilo is a bust. I wonder who scouted him out? Can you say Jed’s winner of his nation-wide search for a GM? Mook.

  9. barleyfreak's avatar barleyfreak says:

“Who drafted Frank in our fantasy leagues?

You need to go hang with Baalke. Mook.”

That would be me. And that’s Mr. Mook to you, pal.

But I do have Frank on my bench. Speaking of Where’s Frank, here’s what Matt Williamson, who is brilliant when he says something I agree with, had to say about him:

“Frank Gore doesn’t look good. He is not attacking things. Gore looks like he is playing hurt. He has run so competitively in the past. He would not just go in the tank. I think Kendall Hunter is very interesting. He looks like he is playing at a different speed when he goes in there. I don’t know if Gore has lost a step, but there is no running room for him. You can see where Gore is frustrated. Their line is abysmal. It is amazing.”

I know the OL has played like a fresh pile of dung, but I also think Gore has looked tentative and goes down at the first slight touch of a defender. I swear he (and Vernon) couldn’t break a tackle to save their lives. Anyway — I am REALLY curious to see how Hunter can do with his fresh legs, speed, and the seeming ability to decide and hit a hole FAST. If we’re not playing from a gazillion points behind, I predict that Monday the blabosphere will be talking about Hunter starting over Gore.

  10. barleyfreak's avatar barleyfreak says:

“I’m not expecting miracles. I am hoping for better line play,…”

That pretty much sums up my Sunday wish list. I want better OL play. I don’t want to read any more Staley quotes of them not sucking.

  11. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I don’t even think it’s a question. If Hunter plays well and shows he can do every facet of the game, we’ll see a changing of the guard.

  12. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Of course they can win this game. If it’s close you can always count on an awesomely stupid game decision by Reid, and without Singletary or Nolan to counter with a dumber one, that could be the diff.More of the tight ends, Hunter on the edges, take care of the ball…20-`14 Niners…

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Are you intimating that the Niners have the edge in the coaching dept? That’s preposterous. Almost as preposterous if you said we have edge in QB today. Almost. Mook.

  13. robd's avatar robd says:

    barley , i offered a trade for gore !

  14. robd's avatar robd says:

niners 23 eagles 20 we comeback and win on a 56 yard akers field goal !

  15. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Fucking Howie Long just said that the Puppy Killer’s bitching and moaning earlier in the week about the non-personal foul calls will likely get him a couple of cheapie calls today. I feel a screw job coming…

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Shit, the Puppy Killer and the Eagles are calling this a MUST WIN game. That spells trouble with a capital ‘T’ in River City, Robert Preston.

    38-17.

  17. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

One of the reasons I’m not going to make any fearless predictions

  18. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Bowman is and has been playing some this year. Great tackle.

  19. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Now there’s a second play called for the Eagles

  20. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

WTF was Jimbo bitchin’ bout? Did he think the Eagles used leverage on that FG?

Welcome back David Akers. Danny Noonan wide left.

  21. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Get the jumbo pack of kleenex Eagles are gonna whine, bitch and moan all game esp. when they screw up like on the Rogers INT. Bitches…

  22. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

I see it is run at all cost. and Fuck the pass

  23. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

We bring in Kaep, but then we have to burn a TO.

    Fire Harbaugh!

  24. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

No pass rush whatsoever. Blitz that mofo!

  25. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That was fucking pathetic. Learn how to tackle.

  26. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That was McDonald who missed that tackle. Let’s give ’em another contract extension.

  27. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Crabs for the first

  28. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

Get a turn over and don’t score points, on the road, that is not good!! They need to at least put up 3

  29. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

Passing the ball, what a concept

  30. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

VD and Crabs, now that’s offensive!

  31. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The stats were correct on the Eagles D, they don’t blitz.
They rush their front 4 and play coverage.

  32. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

So, Pass Protection what a concept! oh wait there was no pass protection.

  33. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Sorry, Alex apologists, but he held on to the ball way too long on that 3rd down.
    He sucks.

  34. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

WTF don’t the Niners ever throw the deep ball just like that?
Think it might be a QB issue?

  35. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Bowman! Nice call

  36. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Great blitz by Bowman, timed it just right. He’s playing stellar football.

  37. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Did Chuck forget to set his alarm clock? Either that or he’s out riding dirk bikes about to bust up his knee and shoulder.

  38. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Bowman on the scfreen on the opening drive, and the blitzes, has been great. Borrks and McDonald whiffed badly on Vick.

Need a TD drive here. We can’t match TDs with FGs.

  39. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

WTF is up with Andy Lee today? Is our MVP. Not a good day so far…

  40. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Boone for Davis please

  41. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Play calling leaves somethig to be desired. I knew they were going Gore up the middle on 2nd and 6. The rest is the same crap.

  42. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

3rd and 14 and we give up that shit. And now the play to the TE.

  43. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Not looking good. Not stopping them on 3rd down, giving up long passes.

    Stripped at goal line!

  44. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Cowboys are stomping the Lions huh Del?

  45. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

WTF was Brown thinking? That was the dumbest thing I’ve seen in awhile. He should be cut tomorrow. I know one person who would be upset, besides Brown, that would be Rob. As he has Ronnie Brown on his fantasy team.

  46. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

    Wasted chance but good punt

  47. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Nice job by our ST to “stay at home” and nix that Eagles reverse on the punt.

  48. Utter's avatar Utter says:

Dumb fucks philly trying to help out but SF can’t capitalize.

  49. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Is Wendell Tyler a coach for the Eagles?
They don’t hold on to the ball too well.

  50. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Vick the escape artist. Finally Aldon tackles/sacks Vick

  51. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Bowman again with the nice open-field tackle. He’s quickly becoming my new favorite 49er. He still has a little ways to go if he wants to unseat Alex as my #1 favorite.

  52. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

It’s the rushers as much as Vick, you can’t be lunging at him.

  53. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Shoulda gotten Cam Newton for the fantasy team, jeez

  54. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Just Alex being Alex…he fumbled the ball even before Babin hit him.
    Mook.

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

After watching that video of Montana you posted vs Saints I’d say he’s a little more confident yeah

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

STFU- the issue is a totally blown assignment, scumbag. If they continue protecting as they have, they’ll go through 5 QBs this year. I can see you need another thiamine injection. I’ll call nurse for you.

  55. robd's avatar robd says:

    DEL
i benched or cut brown before the game today ! you like our QB ?

  56. robd's avatar robd says:

    our defense is good

    aldon smith is something !

  57. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

We didn’t defend that shovel pass too well. To say the least.
This isn’t Seattle or Cincinnati gentlemen.

  58. robd's avatar robd says:

i may have to rethink my pre game prediction !

  59. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Check Down Charlie at his best. Throw it deep.

  60. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

There’s your reason why Smith gets such a bad rap. Stupid plays like that. Basically giving the game away deep in our own territory.

And now we go short passes from the 20 with 40 seconds left.

Harbugh goes hutrry-up, lets 15 seconds go, and then now we call a time out to throw a 5 yard pass.

    Shoot me now.

I guess this means the comeback will all that much sweeter.

  61. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Another drop by Crab. Man we look bad. This is going about like Del, Chuck and the rest expected, damn

  62. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

It’s why couch potato morons get such a bad rap. Blaming the QB for every fuck up by the offense. Wet Brain Denny asked why we don’t throw deep.
    1.No time
    2. When’s the last time you saw a wide out beat a DB deep?
    Right- never.
There are going to be fumbles and/or ints when rushers come unmolested. The miracle is that Smith has had just two turnovers this year.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wrong. Every fuck up? No. Protecting the ball on your own 18 yard line is pretty important, eh skippy? He dropped it before getting hit. He did the same thing last year fror a pick 6. Expecting the QB to protect the ball isn’t asking too much. Vick’s been hit more than Smith. Yet hasn’t fumbledHe can’t put it on the turf dwon there.

This isn’t last week or week 1. I don’t give a shit what he has or hasn’t done in other games. Here and now he has to protect the ball.

  63. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shit, the defense is doing as well as it can. Despite the missed sacks. Hunter drops the screen. Alex drops the ball. Vick has thrown a pick and they’ve fumbled on the 3, yet we don’t take advantage.

Until this team can sustatin drives, this is what it’ll look like. Philly make huge mistakes, yet overcomes them. Any little problem kills our drives. Just about EVERY goddamn pass is a short one. As usual, there’s absolutely no downfield passes. The WRs are quiet. And the ones we throw do not generate yards after the catch. They are ALL outs or comebacks. He NEVER throws passes where he has to lead someone dwon the field. I think there was one to VD.

They have to get a TD on this opening drive, or this game is going to be a wipe-out.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

VD is the only receiver who gets behind the defense, EVER. He can throw deep if you want him throwing to the only guys open- the DBs..

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Even when he has the time, Alex doesn’t have the gumption to throw it deep.
        He’s a pussy.
        A pussy and a mook.

  64. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Good to see us trying to bring the leg-whip back.

    Can they recover from that?

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Dunno but Matt Williamson said 49ers are a team that cannot win if they turn the ball over, period. Right, or drop passes all over the place

  65. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

If we NEVER try it, teams don’t worry about it. Over throw the fucker by 10 yards. Just show that you can do it. Philly’s done it 5 times. 2 successfully. We haven’t shown it once. Ginn was supposed to be that guy. Williams even has the speed.

  66. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

3rd and 6 and Alex throws a 2 yd pass to Crabs.
    Check Down Charlie.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Fuck you, troll. He has to have another option, he didn’t, as Mora noted.. And that was 4 down territory.

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

“Troll,” Wet Brain,” “Death Threat Denny.” Does that make your day?
I get a good chuckle out of it. Go throw the ball to Zeke. Knowing you and your love for Alex, it’ll be intercepted by Mikey.

  67. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

    Stupid-that was 4 down territory.

  68. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    You’re OK with that? Whatever.

I’m not. Another penalty kills a drive. These guys just aren’t ready for prime time.

Akers is having a bad day.

  69. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The Puppy Killer has terrible throwing mechanics. He throws fucking sidearm.
Berger would have a field day ripping his ass…

  70. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I thought the fucking bubble screen was a thing of the past. I’d rather see them try to go downfield than throw 1 yard passes on 3rd and 4.

  71. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Our pressure on the passer today is pretty good and hurts most any other team. Vick is too good at avoiding it and playing with it. He doesn’t get spooked. Always trying to make a play.

The Eagles aren’t bringing much heat on Alex but then they don’t have to. I don’t envy Twinfan his job today.

  72. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Short TE pass, run up the middle, inc.

  73. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

You people always want him going downfield to the Eagle DBs. Try watching the coverage when you can. And notice that even on the check downs he has rushers in his face. Dealing with a critique of the OL seems beyond your capabilities, so you put their deficiencies on the QB

  74. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

And THAT is on Hunter, that’s a fucking TD.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Right, Mike. Alex drops the ball going back to pass, and it isn’t his fault.

Hunter gets tackled in the open field on a 41 yard gain and it’s HIS fault there isn’t a TD.

Sometimes you are very funny. Unintentionally. Othertimes, you are just full of shit.

  75. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That was a nice play by Alex. See, I’m fair and balanced.
    Just like Bill O’Reilly.

  76. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shit. The only way we score is breaking a play like that.

  77. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    A slant!!!!!

    About fucking time.

  78. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Alex looking pretty good there. Hope it’s not the fluke of the day.

  79. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

My point for about 4 fucking years now is the Niners have to run slants to beat this blitzing/pressure they constantly face. They rarely try it.

And, let me get this straight. Alex drops the ball going back to pass, and it isn’t his fault.

Hunter gets tackled in the open field on a 41 yard gain and it’s HIS fault there isn’t a TD.

Sometimes you are very funny. Unintentionally. Othertimes, you are just full of shit.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Chuck, where ya been man? It’s not his fault.

I’m sounding redundant now, but another great tackle by Bowman.
I guess it helps when you went to Linebacker U.

  80. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

ALL QBs face pressure, Mike. Not just Sir Alex. How they deal with it is the mark of a good QB.

A stop here would really help.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

As usual, simplified to the extreme. It’s not the same on each QB, dumb shit. And in fact, his turnover number and QB rating show he does handle it. You have one goddamn fumble to make your non-case.

  81. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Bowman is on fire. . ..

  82. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Fuck me, Ginn. He was down.

  83. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

As I pointed out to you, Chucklefuck, there will be fumbles and ints when rushers come unmolested. Smith’s ball protection has been stellar this year, thus far.

  84. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Hunter looking real good getting down the field

  85. Utter's avatar Utter says:

Yeah …Some positive signs here in the 2nd half. Philly is taking some hits. Keep it going.

  86. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Miller on what Davis is calling a ‘flat slant’ to the 15

  87. Utter's avatar Utter says:

Nice drive..agree, good protection the key.

  88. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Excellent drive there. Need to keep the pressure on Vick. Smith showing some stones in the 2nd half.

  89. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

See what happens when you throw the ball deep? Fuck me.

We haven’t even attempted a pass like that this yr.

  90. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

D is fired up! 2 sacks/stops in a row. I hear the beginning of boobirds

    Oops, DeShawn shows some speed

  91. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

That’s 2 3rd and 15+es that they’ve converted. Got to make a stop here. At least force a long FG.

  92. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

4th Q coming up. Time for another Vicodin and a prayer to our Holy Mother.

  93. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Misses the FG. Okay 9ers pounce on these bastards

  94. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The Eagles just conceited the FG on that 3rd dn play, and he missed it.

Being conservative only works in politics.

  95. Utter's avatar Utter says:

2008 draft We took Chilo Rachal with the 39th pick, Philly got Desean with the 49th…

  96. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Here we are. Start of the 4th quarter.

Down by 6. This would be a hard-fought win for the Niners. An epic win.

  97. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Fuck. Through the hands, Crabs.
