Game Day – The Big Early Test

This game will be a very good indicator of the talent of this team. In the preseason, the Niners were easily handled by the likes of NO and Hou. This is the real thing, though, and whether taht makes a difference remains to be seen. All we have heard about so far is what the Niners have supposedly kept under wraps, not what they accomplished last week. The O was vanilla. And even blander in the red zone. The D was straight up for the most part, and didn’t do much blitzing or trying to fool anyone. In other words, this was a Singletary game. However, it was a game that Sing usually lost. So, that alone is a plus for Harbaugh.

Truth be told though, hearing what these guys will do in an upcoming  game is also a Singletary thing that I couldn’t stand. Show it. Don’t talk about it. Hearing how well practice went, or how well Smith hit deep balls on the practice field usually makes me throw up in my mouth. Show it, and shut up about it. Harbaugh, to his credit, doesn’t talk much about anything regarding practice, injuries, or anything that could even mildly be construed as something the opponents can use against them, or the writers can write about.

So, another excersize in vanilla ice cream, or will Harbaugh unleash a bit of a down field passing attack? It would be nice to see the run game go as well, but you, me, and the watercooler all know Dallas will come out and crowd the line to force Smith to beat their D with some mid-range passes. Bubble screens, smoke routes, and runs up the middle won’t work until the Niners hit a few passes longer than 5 yards. Pass blocking is essential. Somethng that was a problem in the preseason. DeMarcus WHERE? is the key for the O line. Slow him down, and let Smith hit some passes, and the line should be able to get the run game going.

Beating Dallas, a good but flawed team, would be a big feather in Harbaugh’s cap. It would give the Niners confidence, and the fans a little hope, and hopefully swing the momentum for this team going forward.

Of course I want a win. But I’m also looking closely at how this team competes today. I think everyone would agree that Dallas is a better overall team than we are. A blow out would be devastating. A win would be awesome. Unlike some of you simpletons who just look at how bad (or good) Alex Smith plays, I will be watching all facets of the game and seeing how we match up against a very solid Dallas team. I’m especially interested to see how our D looks against an actual offense and not that Tavarius Led Disaster from last Sunday……..

  2. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

    Dez Bryant is OUT.

Am I the only one, but doesn’t Rachel Nichols always look like she wants to be bent over like a two-bit whore?

  3. winder's avatar winder says:

Yeah, I am looking to see what progress we have made in all aspects of the game myself. I can already foresee that coaching will be much improved and am gonna pay close attention to the OL since I believe that’s where we are gonna live or die.

    • barleyfreak's avatar barleyfreak says:

“…and am gonna pay close attention to the OL since I believe that’s where we are gonna live or die.”

I agree. Many areas need to get better/play well, but if we have an inferior OL, we no go anywhere.

  4. robd's avatar robd says:

oooh i agree 100% about rachel nichols !

  5. robd's avatar robd says:

    omg guys
i just saw that hloti ngata (sp) and paul soliai are still holdouts !

could the niners know more than me and be ready to throw out a 2nd rd. pick in 2012 for one of these guys ? ( imo we have tons of cap money and could NEVER get a better NT in the 2012 draft for a 2nd rounder !

anybody think we need one more d-lineman more than anything ?

imo it would have been better for us if this were a late season game to give us some time to get it together ! the biggest concern has to be our young 0-line with anthony davis and iupati raw rachal and a new center added in ! don’t forget we play a team with just about the most talented front seven (esp. vs. the pass ) in football !

can harbaugh and solari , with help from the home crowd , pull it off today ?

  6. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Rob, I concur completely about needing more D-lineman.
Maybe we should ask Rachel Nichols. I’m sure she’s seen a few in her lifetime. 😛

  7. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

KC just lost J. Charles to what appears to be a serious knee injury.
Might end up being a Luck-y break after all. No need. I chided myself for that bad pun.

  8. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Tampa Bay better kick it in gear or the season is gonna leave ’em behind.

PS – I love that Geico commercial with the smart phone nerds….. brilliant.

  9. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Fuck. I hate to say it, but the goddamn Raiders ain’t half bad.
    Fuck ’em anyways.

  10. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Chuck, You just might have caught a lucky break. One of my FF QBs, Big Ben, looks like he might be injured in Steel Town. Looks like I’m gonna have to rely doubly on Tony Romo today…

    How bout dem cowboys!

  11. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

    Stafford is fuckin’ good.

  12. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

    Thoughts:

I really thought Cam Newton was going to be another JaMarcus. It’s still early, but I’m wearing the dunce cap on that one so far.

Seattle getting crushed by Pitt. Carroll is officially in the Luck Derby.

Detroit is up and coming. KC is stalled out, looking for a QB and a little more defense.

Rex Grossman is awful… but still the Cardinals are losing.

  13. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I love Colt McCoy. I’m on record stating I wanted the 49ers to draft that kid.

He’ even better than Charlie Sheen…Winning!

  14. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Jets-Jags: 2 INTS by each QB in the first half. At least Sanchez has a TD, but pretty sloppy play. Very few first downs by either team, like SF-Seattle all over again.

  15. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I’m watching the Lions now. Week 6…they are taking us out to the woodshed.

  16. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

lol. they are gonna take us to the woodshed. fyi…. nothing good happens at the woodshed. nothing.

  17. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

I’m so hungover the voices in my head are speaking mexican and I think they’re talkin’ shit about me.

  18. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

The Raiders aren’t that good. The Bills’ receivers dropped a million passes in the first half.

The Chiefs season is over. Develop a qb.

  19. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Colt is doin’ that against the Colts. The Colts couldn’t beat a team coached by Mike Singletary. And speaking of Del’s amazing ability to find qb talent – Curtis Painter is so bad they got Kerry Collins out of retirement to upgrade the qb position. Painter is so bad they brought in Nate Davis to teach him the playbook.

  20. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Not that any of you needed to be reminded after last Sunday, but Seattle sucks Donkey Kong.

  21. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Shit, I thought he was done for game, or maybe even the season after that hit he took.

Big Ben: He’s a rapist, but he’s durable.

  22. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Rapists are good for fantasy, they score. Look at SeaBass.

  23. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Here come my Bills. Fuck the Raiders!

  24. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Chuck, don’t get a hard on (I know that takes the use of pharmaceuticals), but Sanchez just threw at TD to Keller to light up you fantasy board.

Did I ever tell you about the time I lit up that 40 ft. Christmas tree?
I think I did. On more than one occasion.

    Merry Christmas

  25. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

    Here comes my Bills!

  26. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Raiders will fold like a house of cards. Tigers don’t change their stripes. Hue Jackson ain’t changin’ that culture with Jason Campbell. Pu-leeze.

  27. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I LOVE just what the Lions and Stafford did. CJ dropped a sure gimme TD on 3rd down, and they went right back ’em on 4th down. Result? He’s not Calvin Johnson for nothing.

  28. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Del thinks the Raiders are good. hehe

  29. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

You can always count on the Raiders to commit a penalty at the most inopportune time.

  30. barleyfreak's avatar barleyfreak says:

Crabtree is inactive. Williams is active. Good. I hope he is really active today.

  31. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

    TD Buffalo!

  32. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I wonder if Andrew Luck likes BBQ?
    KC is fucking god awful.

  33. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Epic collapse by the Faders. 21 unanswered points. Must have Singleneuron doing their halftime adjustments…

  34. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

I think the Colts get Lucky.

  35. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

The Lions are taking a decade’s worth of frustration and shit out on KC today. That team is for real.

  36. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

LOL fucking stupid Raiders… third and goal, get a stop, commit a holding penalty, automatic first down.

Brain Dead, just like their owner.

  37. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Spit, your Indy “Lucky” prediction just might come to fruition.
Their situation is looking more ugly and dire by the minute…

  38. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Ouch… right through the DBs hands for a Buffalo TD.

  39. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Bills re-take the lead! I hate the city, county and the NFL team that calls itself Oakland.

  40. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Shaun Hill in at QB for Stafford, just threw a long pass to set up another Lions TD – they went for it on 4th down to punch it in and make it 48-3. I think it’s called making a statement.

Wonder if Haley will be asking, “What’s your deal?” today.

  41. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Best move of my FF season so far is dumping Cassel for Campbell. The Raydurs may not win, but Campell has looked pretty good.

The Niner game? Forget everything but the 3rd down conversion rate.

    It HAS to get better.

  42. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The Vikings are just about to take a HUGE dump. 17-0 halftime lead went by the wayside.

Check that, it’s OVER. I’d be firing people left and right in Minnesota.

  43. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Cam Newton just converted a third and 22 – the Panthers are now driving on the Packers, trying to tie.

  44. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

That was a hell of a catch by the Raiders WR.

  45. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wow. Denarius Moore with the 60 yard catch. Raydurs score. 35-31 . . .

    Campell having a day . . .

  46. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Cam Newton came up one yard short on 4th down at the GB 3, after being sacked on third down.

He’ll lose today, but he scared the crap out of the Packers. Maybe the kid can play.

  47. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Arizona game looks like it will come down to the wire, the Redskins are driving at the two minute warning.

  48. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Brian Billick is doing the color commentary for today’s game. That was TF’s choice to be our next Head Coach. Brian Billick and Alex Smith living in harmony and jumping through meadows picking lots of forget-me-nots.

  49. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Washington just got a FG, up 22-21 over the Tards with a minute and a half left.

  50. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

We won the toss and deferred? That shows a lot of confidence in our QB.

  51. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

This is disgusting…there’s at least 25% Cowboys’ fans today at the ‘Stick.
    Embarrassing.

  52. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Well, we played the reverse well.

  53. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

    TD Buffalo!!!!!!!!!!

    How bout dem Bills!

  54. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Fitzpatrick just got a TD for buffalo on 4th down with 18 seconds left.

  55. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Carlos Rogers just got away with one…

  56. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Wow – the whole team just got away with one!

  57. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Gotta try to capture some momentum off the missed FG.

  58. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

    Raiders lose!

  59. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Nice step up and delivery against the blitz… the 49ers picked everyone up for him.

  60. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Nice screen. Got to keep the Cowpies from blitzing every play.

  61. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Our offensive linemen still too high in inside runs… end up stood up, looking like they’re on ice skates.

  62. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Roll right, and throw it OB.

    What a shocker.

  63. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

My OVER isn’t looking too good.

    It’s early. It’s early.

  64. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That E*Trade baby is the best. I want him as my QB in 20 yrs…

  65. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

    Nice defensive play on Witten.

  66. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Good defensive sequence. Just enough rush on third down to make Romo throw the ball without time to look for a better option.

  67. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Ginn caught a pass… I hope Gabriel isn’t blowing that fucking trumpet now.

  68. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

That was really a hell of a play by Alex to make something out of nothing.

  69. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

That play right there is about the best play of Smith’s career.

    Touchdown!

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

      Absolutely.

      • grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

A lot of QBs have the legs to buy some time back there, but usually that’s it – they throw it away, or throw an INT trying to get something that isn’t there – that was beautiful field vision and accuracy to get it to the End Zone, where it needed to be.

  70. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Turning a 10 yard loss into a 35 yard gain is huge. . . .

Gore does catch that w/o the interference . . .

  71. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

We have them a little bit on their heels right now… time to grab the game by the throat now. I’d love to see play action here, and go deep down the middle to Braylon.

  72. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Beautiful timing with Morgan on the sideline – Alex yhrew it before Morgan was open. He couldn’t make that play a couple of years ago.

  73. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Nice play. Morgan did a credible imitation of Dwight Clark there.

  74. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

It is obvious that Alex has skills!

  75. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

    Kyle Williams!

    WHO NEEDS THE FUCKING CRABS??!!

  76. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Alex now 10 of 13 for 103 and a TD. Very, very solid game so far.

  77. robd's avatar robd says:

wow , that williams really CAN catch babay !
    14-0 dude !

  78. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

There’s KW. Brilliant pass there . . . So far so good for rattling Romo . . .

  79. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Love love love Williams from day ONE. Now he gets his shot . . .

  80. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

With Braylon out, Wiliams and Morgan now have to come up big today.

  81. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Romo is hearing footsteps… rushing and not in the game. Gotta keep up the pressure on him!

  82. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Romo is 5 of 14 for 78. No question who the better QB is today so far.

  83. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Nice shot of VD turning as Alex hits the ground. Gotta have a quicker option with that many guys blitzing.

  84. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

49er defense now needs one more stand before halftime.

  85. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Andy Lee, MVP: 63 yard punt.

  86. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

Niners winning, Giants wining, can this day get any better?, well it is early for the Niners. But still…

  87. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Who is that team pushing the ‘boys all over the field? And who the hell is their QB?

  88. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Got to love the fact we’re rattling Romo. Great D by Rogers. he shoulda had the pick, but hey, I’ll take it.

Got to hit him with the ball.

  89. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

    Damn! spoke too soon maybe.

  90. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Crap. Stupid penalty, second chance, seven points to Dallas.

  91. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Sorry, Chuck. But that pass fro Romo to Austin just racked me up some serious fantasy pts.

  92. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Hey, in case you guys haven’t heard the news…the Raiders took it up the ass courtesy of a fucking only Secretariat’s schlong could imagine.

  93. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Still, all in all, you have to be pretty happy. Halftime adjustments now will weigh heavily.

  94. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

How does Romo’s dick up yer ass feel, Dennis?

You ought to be used to it by now.

  95. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Here we go. One more half… Tinme for Smith to put his stamp on this one.

  96. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

That was a cluster fuck even before the snap.

  97. robd's avatar robd says:

    DEL
fuck you and the fake team you care about !
we could have been up 14-0 at the half if brown had not fallen down (and reggie smith did a little better on that play ) .
    but
if we beat dallas today considering our young 0-line , new system and being without BOTH our starting WR’s … OMG

  98. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

58 yards net on the punt with Spillman’s tackle.

  99. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wow. Back to the defense. Romo’s got a rib injury. Let’s hope we can make it worse. . .

Dallas is going to try and run.

  100. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Our run defense has looked very, very solid so far, in both games.
