Week 1 and We Are # 1 ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Sure. Right. What I love about most of the coverage in the NF, it seems to be the way to go to downplay any success of the tem or its quarterback. Oh, the Rams didn’t get enough sleep! Poor guys! Just wait till next time! Wonder what the ‘power rankings’ will say about this game.

Anyway, the thing that really baffles me about all this coverage regarding players, stats, teams, power rankings, yadda yadda yadda, is how absolutely dependent ALL the wonks are to fantasy statistics.

Yeah, Josh Allen is a great QB. He does great things. He puts up yards. He wins games. Sure he’s a top guy. Stafford? Yeeeeaaaaah. He’s pretty good but he has a strong team around him. Justin Herbert? Yeah, good QB, but 0 playoff wins. Yeah, they seem to have the 75 year curse iof never having a very good defense, but not 1 playoff victory?

Then you have Dak Prescott. He puts up great numbers but really, he doesn’t win important games. He puts up gaudy numbers against the weakest division, the NFC East. And Dallas had very good defenses in his time at QB. He’s pretty much garbage in my book as he has done the least with the most at his disposal.

Lamar Jackson is another guy who wilts in the playoffs yet gets all the love as being a top QB. Yeah, he has a ton of talent, and has won a lot of games, and his numbers shine, but playoffs? 3-5? Pffffffffffffffffffft.

Drake Maye is #4 in the NFL because of 1 season against another weak-ass division, the AFC East and the easiest schedule in the NFL? Big numbers, but he faces a strong D and you get what happened Wednesday night. 3 picks in the 4th quarter. NE is a paper tiger. They will not make the playoffs.

Point being, these retarded fantasy stat-driven rankings will always go against a balanced team like the 49ers have now, and had back in the day. I mean, I think Russell Wilson was the last QB to get any kind of kudos for running a balanced offense. He didn’t put up gaudy numbers because he didn’t have to. throw in a dominant defense and there you go.

Anyhow, end of rant. Bring on the Mammal fish.

I can’t stand to watch Josh allen style QBs that get the ball out in 2 seconds. zzz no receiver can get down field for 3rd and 10 that quickly. Stafford does lot of this too, quick short outs often facilitated by 3 wide guys on one side of formation and some sort of pick to get inside or outside guy open. It’s just boring as hell.

Purdy last night threw long short and middle and hit bunch of different receivers. Despite one drop on not well thrown ball, he was lights out in first game. Get Kittle healthier and Robinson more involved and continue to keep guys off Purdy, offense looks good with combo running backs finally.

Your 9ers looked pretty good there, Charlie. Perhaps one of the best teams in the NFC this year. Can’t really think of another team that I would see as a shoo-in…

    It’s a loooong seaason but it’s a good start.

Really liking what Raheem Morris is bringing to the defense. The wide 9 4 guys on the line every time was grating on my nerves. We show different looks and are playing more press man coverage.

The Rams are supposed to be a phenomenal team but maybe they were just tired.

But we made them look bad.

  4. Bob McMurry's avatar Bob McMurry says:

Niners had a great game plan both on offense and defense, Actually loved that the Screen pass is back they had 11 screen passes completed 10 got the ball out quick ( 2 seconds avg)that negated a useless Garrett, it opened up a couple of beautiful throws to Robinson &Deebo for TD’s and Mike Evans still shows he’s the man in in the red zone like in his whole career snagging one on one TD’s!

Very impressed by RB Black runs hard, can catch a great complement for CMC that know way needs 450 touches like last year, and Stats prove it , the following season after massive carries drop off big time ,Barkley last year and many others.Maybe Shanny’s figuring those stats out for this long season? CMC is still the cowbell but now has Black maybe James as well to keep him fresher..

  5. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Huge win down under! All 3 phases played their part, Shanahan and Morris got to show what they can do with an almost full toolbag and it was impressive.

Nothing is ever perfect, but beating the Rams is pretty close to it.

The change of pace 2 back look gives another dimension. CMC stayed fresh and looks rejuvenated and Black runs hard, he missed some holes and ran straight into the teeth of the D or his own linemen, but even that has its value, wearing down those LB. Hopefully as Black gets more carries his vision becomes CMC like and he becomes more dangerous but if not hes still a heck of a rookie RB. Jordan James isn’t getting a sniff if CMC and Black keep performing.

    1 and Ohh.

Hope Black can start finding holes because I think he looks a lot like Gore. I always thought Gore was somewhat of a human bowling ball(and that is a compliment). I don’t think anyone really wanted to get hit by Gore and I think it will be the same with Black. Fingers crossed.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Black missed his holes a few times, but the guy runs hard.

    Very impressed.

  8. Berger's avatar Berger says:

We just need to stay healthy. After too many years of being banged up, It’s hard to think anything is going to change.

  9. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Niners may have gotten lucky on 2 injury fronts. Stribling didn’t rupture his achillies which is what it looked like by the way he reacted. He has a deltoid sprain (ankle) which probably needs rest not surgery so 4 to 6 weeks.

The other is that Myles Garrett has to have knee surgery, not season ending but likely half the season and since they traded away their best end pass rusher to upgrade with Garrett they don’t have anyone on roster thats close to as good. That and a rusty old Aaron Donald turns a super D line into an ordinary D line.

  10. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

And its official, the Cardinals won, the Seahawks won and of course our 49ers won. The best team, on paper, in the NFL is the bottom of the NFC West division. Even if its just 1 week.

Raiders, under Kirk Cousins, led gate to wire over Fins 27-13. Willis got sacked 5 times. TOP was 35-25 favor of Vegas, and Fins were 2-10 on 3rd down.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

John Harbaugh wins his debut for the Giants, beating the Cowboys!!!!

    Love it.

Jim got stomped by the Cards.

    • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Dart can do some things, not all of them great but…Matt Nagy is Giants OC, with recently departed from Chargers Greg Roman listed as offensive assistant. Harbs (Jim) finally moved on from him and is still losing.

      Gotta love it.

      • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Yeah the coaching in the NFL is getting way younger now. Much of the good old boy network will be history in the next few years I believe. I can’t help thinking about Singletary and Jimmy hat…everybody in the world knew what was coming.

  12. Bob McMurry's avatar Bob McMurry says:

WR Stribling ( ankle)out at atleast a month with a deltoid ligament sprain…

  13. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Good to see rookie RB Black recognize he runs into his own linemen too much:

“I heard them, and I feel so bad,” Black said. “I told them, ‘Sorry,’ multiple, multiple times. I’m just so down hill. I’m trying to grind out as many yards as I can. Sometimes it happens. But it’s definitely something I can be better at.”

    Download and follow the 49ers

This kid does and says the right things. If his vision improves just a little bit he will be really a threat to the house.

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Really think they nailed an RB pick with Black.

Even more so after reading that.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Huh. Fairly surprised by the Chargers getting roasted by the Cards. Maybe they aren’t the pushovers we thought they were. Or maybe the Chargers just suck.

And what’s with the New York Football Giants putting an ass-kicking on the Dallas Cowboys? Crazy.

Only other one that tripped me out was the Green Bay game. GB had the ball and a comfortable 22-10 lead late in the 3rd quarter. And, after making the score 25-10, an offsides call on the FG, LaFluer takes the points off the board and goes for it on 4th and 1.

This fails, and the Vikings go on to score 29 unanswered points. This of course after Kyler Murray gets knocked out of the game on the Vikes first possession and Carson Wentz steps in.

  16. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Alex Smith lol. Our old Flap buddy TwinFan loved him and was still making excuses for him with Chiefs.

  17. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hah! Saw that. I’m like “wow, some guy beating the drum with a Smith Jersey!”

And it was Alex. Still have my signed Alex Smith official jersey I won from the Niners Insider when I picked Kentwan Balmer as our 1st round pick back in 2007.

Smith didn’t give up 45 point to the Colts back. Hard not to have mad respect or the guy with what he went trhough for most of his career.

  18. willedav's avatar willedav says:

KC sure messed over Denver, especially with running game. Broncos come here for Game 4.

  19. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

I wonder where the Niners would if the Niners had cut ties with Ballke and had kept Harbaugh. This is an interesting rea,

Wow. Yeah, I sure with Scotty had stuck around. He was a phenomenal drafter.

Shit, I go back to 2005 and the ‘what if’ of us drafting Rogers, getting Nolan to move upstairs, and McCarthy becoming the HC in 2006. Even with Alex, I think the team would have been really good by 2009.

Nolan was a good front office guy, but not a good coach.
