Oh, O Line, Where Art Thou?

Stop me if you’ve heard this before but this team is once again going with backups, retreads, and late-round fliers to keep Brock Purdy upright. They have signed:

  • Backup C/G Brett Toth
  • Backup LT Vederian Lowe

They drafted:

  • Guard C Willis in the 4th round
  • Tackle E Cruz in the5th round

T Williams, Puni, McKivitz, and (urk) Brendel are starting. They have late round guys in Colby, Nugent, and Zakelj, failed tackle broken-neck UDFA Robert jones, and no-name guys Parker and Alarcon.

We have depth I guess, but Brendel is not the answer at center and we have a bunch of stiffs fighting for the LG spot.

It’s infuriating to me to see statues like Sourdough Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford afforded 4-5 seconds to pick apart defenses while Brock Purdy runs for his life on 80% of our pass plays. The ONLY reason our sack totals were low is from Purdy’s escapability.

And far as the Giants go, I’m suffering with all you flap orphans. This team is as exciting as a wet blanket. I guess Buster really doesn’t have a budget to work with? I mean how could anyone in their right mind say this team was built to win with that pitching staff?

Funny thing is, the pitching, minus Dookie Houseturd, Bofucki, and “I got my shit together” Walker has been OK. The hitting is catastrophically bad. Esp this last roadie.

At least they called up Eldridge.

Hey there Chuck, addressing your last comment on the last thread .. we can add to the list of players you mentioned: Dubon, Harrison & … fer fucks sake ! DOM!! Who we could have had for next to nuthin’ !! Time & distance has revealed that the G’s ability to recognize talent and develop it, is wanting.

Snarkk, great “catch” about Otto Lopez. Totally forgot about that guy, now with the Marlins. You’re spot on with regard to losing winners like this Lopez, but retaining losers like Luciano for years and years.

Along with most of you, I don’t know what the answer is, but I do know it wont be resolved this season, and I hate to say it – perhaps, in several seasons, we’ll still be doing this finger pointing. Frankly, the entire organization is a conundrum. It’s making money hands over fist. The team plays in a beautiful ball park. Yet, the organization is in dissaray.

As some of us suspect, I think the problems and answers lies in ownership, specifically, Johnson Jr. Just me, but I think senility will be a fairly smooth transition for this tool.

      ESPN Take . . .

      San Francisco Giants: D-

Welcome to the major leagues, Tony Vitello. Having fun yet? The Giants just haven’t scored runs — they’re last in the majors in home runs, walks and stolen bases. They haven’t been this bad on offense since Johnnie LeMaster, Rennie Stennett and Mike Ivie patrolled the infield. President of baseball operations Buster Posey is discovering this job is a lot more difficult than calling pitches for Madison Bumgarner. Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser, his two rotation additions, are 1-7 with a 6.49 ERA, and Harrison Bader hit .115 before getting injured. But the biggest problem has been Rafael Devers, who is supposed to be the team’s best hitter and looks completely lost at the plate. If the Giants continue to flail, it will be interesting to see if they make some of their key players available at the deadline.

How we compare to the rest of MLB:

      https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/48666631/mlb-2026-season-first-month-april-grades-all-30-teams

  3. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, very telling how this staff is woefully bad at finding and developing talent. If we had the A’s scouts and GM, we’d have about 10 World Series wins in the past 25 years.

That has been going on through 4 different regimes as far as poor drafting and bringing guys up. Sabes had his run from 2005-2010 but before and after that he was merely OK. As the ownership group has slid the mantle to Charlie and now Greggie things have gotten steadily worse.

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Did they shit-can Dookie Houser? Trev McDonald is getting the start tonight.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

No they put Miller on the DL( lower back sprain)Called up McDonald to start.DFA Jerar E, Activated Eldridge DH and Rodriguez C who are both in the LU while Chapman sits and Schmitt plays 3rd..

      • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Hopefully this is sign vitello getting less afraid to shake up the lineup somewhat. Sdhmitt off to good start, and can play different spots on IF. No harm keeping him in there and letting others get view from bench.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

No shit. We are very close to being out of the race. For mediocrity. I mean, we’ve got an aging pitching staff. In Sacramento. Fuck those guys and move the AA guys up. Move everyone up and weed out the dead wood. It’s time to get a better idea of how buster has done with his 2 drafts.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I tell ys, Schmitty being the masher that he is had caught me by surprise.

  7. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Get comfortable riding the Pine Chappy!! Which would make Blade ecstatic.

Schmitt now with his team high 5th HR not going anywhere soon. And Devers an RBI hit? 2-1

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Arraez is supposed to be the weak link on the IF defense but he’s got 0 errors in 141 chances.

    I’ll prolly jinx the mofo.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Great stop by Arraez there, right after Schmitt’s outstanding defensive play. Secretly hoping that he “Pipps” Chapman at 3rd base. Ha.

  9. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

And another sterling play by the yes Gold Glover Luis Arreaz one of amazing stories of the year in the field!
Could be a reach but doesn’t Trevor McDonald look like Alex Smith?

  10. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Looks like we have something with this McDonald (fingers crossed).

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Mind boggling that Houser got a 2 year, $22 million contract. Praying that the league locks out the players next season until they agree to a hard salary cap.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

How weird, They just showed Alex Smith in the stands.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Right? I had no idea Alex was at the game then boom! Gotta be some kinda Karma for a Giants win? Hell McDonald even took a smash off his leg, thankfully he was ok unlike Alex that needed like 17 surgeries??

  12. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Right before that double Unc, Kruk confirmed what we all know here . . . Arraez has been outstanding on defense, along with his excellent hitting.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wish these guys would just be more consistent. They play well for a few games then the wheels fall off for a week.

  14. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Every time I pay attention to Adames’ ABs, he’s at 0-2 or 1-2 and struggggling to avoid a K. Does he ever get count leverage in his favor? Now, just another K with a RISP that would give an insurance run. This guy is a huuuge disapointment. Doing nothing at the plate for the first few months of the season is not excusable. He’s collecting his checks during that period, he doesn’t get a pass…

  15. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Good comeback by Killian . . . 2 more. Get ’em.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Kilian’s Red for the 9th.

  17. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Geez, Giants never make things EZ late in games where they actually have a lead. Arraez is playing gold glove second. Wash is a glove whisperer…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Yeah, I was thinking about the 2 RISP that we left in the 8th. Yep, nothing easy for them.

  18. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

    Arraez! WOW!

  19. Macdog's avatar Macdog says:

    Victory!

  20. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Good win and start of the 6 game homestand by the Giants.

  21. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Arraez is putting on a clinic out there.

  22. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Killian looks like a potential closer, despite the dinger given up. They need to give him a few shots at it, see what happens. Walker should not get near the 7-8-9 frames…

  23. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

So fed up with Adames. Arraez is too. Wish he would have cold cocked him.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

He needs to wear a rubber suit that doesn’t allow him to reach for low and outside sliders. Or, high fastballs. He’s not in a slump, this is what he does every year. I say that is BS, he should be able to fix that failure with a mental approach that eliminates the attraction of the wasted swings. A swing key of some sort. It’s not that hard. Get Bonds in there to tell him what to do…

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Tom, did you see Arraez get pissed off at him for the gatorade interruption, while he was being interviewed?

He was visibly upset and mumbled something to Adames not to do it . . . Adames hesitated and still drenched him. To Arraez’s credit, he continued the interview.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Didn’t see it. This guy is supposed to be a leader? How can you be a leader making $160K per game yet hitting under .200 ?

Dude needs to start playing, earn his salary and stop screwing around…

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

See Mac’s link below . . . I was hoping Arraez would slug him.

  24. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Nice effort there by Old McDonald.

  25. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

And a Victory for The Giants!!

McDonald outstanding!80 pitches 7 ip ,2 h, O walks 8K’s, Roberto Alomar Luis Arreaz beyond outstanding,Schmitt Bomb,Devers a rare good game,And hopefully the New Closer with Nasty Stuff Caleb Killian!

Loo’s rusty door hinge midget finally gets some fun along with us Orphans..

Nice win, maybe there is still time for hope.

  27. willedav's avatar willedav says:

McD has to get at least another start after that one. Given $$ owed to Houser and Mahle I get why they won’t get dumped off yet, so why not go 6 man?

I was against this before but it seems like wave of future to try and keep SPs healthy.

  28. willedav's avatar willedav says:

huh thanks for news of postgame I missed. New gal is useless and far too often commentators gloss over shortcomings with shill worthy excuses.

But yes Adames gatorade nonsense has to stop. Yard was 58 degrees last night; no one appreciates getting doused like that.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 says:

      Adames is a fuckin idiot…

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah Adames is a fuckin idiot and yet the Giants PR department is too , now using his spill on postgame advertising like true fans really give a shit! So are we supposed to be excited about 14 Gatorade splashes compared to 21 that are not?

Super Bowl Win, Purdy Please
