May the Schwartz Be With You ! ! !

Or, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. Ol’ Jimbo Harbaugh’s arch-nemesis handshake buddy and erstwhile HC and DC for a bunch of teams, Jim Schwartz is available for our DC spot after being bypassed for the Cleveland Browns HC spot.

He was apparently “visibly upset” by the snub, so sure, let him take it out on the rest of the league. The Browns sucked last year, going 5-12, but not because of their 4th ranked defense. So I get why he thought he had a shot at the HC slot.

He uses the familiar 4 -man front and also uses the wide-9 to get edge pressure. But he is a LOT more aggressive with the 5 man fronts and uses a lot more man coverage. Although he doesn’t do a lot of blitzing, which is what I’d like to see. So, the same but different.

Works for me. Bradley seems like a good choice, but he’s been kinda middling for a good long while.

I don’t think Bradley is a good choice over the potential to land “The Schwartz” a proven overall defensive wizard compared to Bradley’s inconsistent defensive abilities..

Jimbo Schwartz D/C teams were 8-2 against Shanny’s offense I believe?so I say get him in here, rather have him coaching with us then against us!! Runs the same scheme so easy transition going forward..

Read this morning that we have already interviewed 3 guys Bradley, Morris, and someone I have never heard of and can’t remember his name. Some things about getting old truly sucks. Shanny should know Schwartz so maybe there is something there, it’s obvious he’s disgruntled.

looks like they hired Morris as DC

gus Bradley to TENN? With Daboll as OC then Bradley and Saleh team up again. Tenn has zero income tax also.

Could be but as far as I can tell nobody is asking about Bradley so maybe he just stays?

I guess it’s up to Morris now. I’m more concerned about keeping Kocurek and Johnny Holland, they are very good position coaches IMO.

DB coach Bullocks is apparently no longer with the team so maybe Saleh took him but I wasn’t that impressed with his backfield 2 years in a row anyway.

Just can’t see Bradley staying at all.Probably Titans but I wouldn’t rule out Cardinals,Lafleur has some times with him, so maybe it’s his chance to stick it back at Niners? But I don’t care he’s not a good D/C with constant bottom feeder defenses in the past..

I like the Morris hire, Shanahan and Morris go back to 4 Organizations together! Morris is well liked around the league and even Bijan Robinson and Drake London questioned his firing after 2 ..8-9 seasons.

The one question is Morris likes to run a 3-4 scheme front with 4 LB’s , obviously Shanny has stuck with the 4-3 forever! Times are changing throughout the league, would Shanny give full control on what Defense Morris will run now??

    • bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

how about Bradley stays to help keep the 4-3 but Raheem does the playcalling to stay close to the players.

      • bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

also this helps keep the first 3 picks on O: LG, LT swing tackle, and WR1 with Mac Jones trade.

I read some speculation of Bradley to AZ or the Titans.

AZ would be better for him as he would call the D plays, Saleh has said he intends to call the D himself which he didn’t do at the Jets.

In any event I don’t thing whether Bradley stays or goes moves the needle too much.

I little surprised by the Morris hire. But color me thrilled. He nominally runs a 3-4 but he switches things up all the time, and does a LOT of blitzing and bringing pressure, stunting, overloading, and faking pressure. Kinda like the Shanahan motion offense.

I dig it. Bradley? Don’t care at this point. I think the players will be ecstatic to play this hyper-aggressive scheme.

For shit and giggles, I present you with Yahoo’s NFL recent coaching grade hires (head and coordinator) . . . https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nfl/article/nfl-coaching-hire-grades-for-all-10-openings-including-last-2–raiders-klint-kubiak-and-cardinals-mike-lafleur-212707196.html

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

That’s a pretty good article, Blade. The Giants with Harbaugh and the Raiders with Kubiak look to be the best hires of the bunch. Saleh should do fine as well. Whether they work out or not remains to be seen, but Mendoza going to Vegas looks to be a great place to start from. The Giants went through a season similar to ours in getting waylaid by injuries that they couldn’t overcome.

I’d give the Niners an A for the Morris hire as it isn’t the easy pick. Bradley looked to be the obvious choice, but to me he seemed a bit too much like Wilks and Sorensen. A guy that wouldn’t change much but not get the fullest out of his guys.

Can’t wait to see Morris’ defense actually being aggressive and creating turnovers. This has been the biggest issue to me with these last few coordinators. Salleh got hamstrung by the injuries, but even before them we weren’t getting any picks.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Raiders using their “once every decade” good decision choice with Kubiak (although, they can still blow it by choosing someone not named Mendoza . . . Even I don’t think they’re that stupid).

The head scratcher to me is the Steelers with McCarthy. Don’t know why they didn’t go after someone better???

Meanwhile, the Schwartz remains disgruntled in Cleveland.

  10. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I hope Morris runs the 3-4 defense. IMO, it is more blitz happy and more flexible. I especially like the Bill Walsh version with the Elephant. We have the perfect compliment for the 3 Interior D-linemen already. Bosa would be the Elephant.

No surprise after being passed over bythe 49ers Gus Bradley is moving on to be Robert Saleh’s DC in Tennessee..
