In a yearly occurrence, the 49ers were granted compensatory picks for their lost free agents. We had a big purge last year, so we ended up getting three 4th round picks. The three comp picks were for Aaron Banks, Josh Dobbs, Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga, Jaylon Moore, and Charvarius Ward. And we lost our 5th round pick to the Iggles for Bryce Huff.
Funnily enough, Dre Greenlaw was released by the Broncos and is available once again. If not for his achilles injury in the Super Bowl, we mighta got that #6. But that is the past. Might be worth a camp look to see if he’s fully recovered as he was a dominant force when healthy.
Other than that, the blog world (at least around these parts) was shaken to its core with Big Flav announcing the end of his SF Giants blog, OneFlapDown. Craig started his blog back in 2009 when the Chronicle’s Splash Hit blog got insanely overrun with crazies and weasels and overkill on the moderation.
I’ve gotten to meet quite a few of the bloggers as we’ve gone to a few baseball games together, and in a coincidence of monumental proportions, I discovered that one of the blog posters had a son attending SF State at the same time as my daughter. The night before I met him in person, I realized that his son was dating my daughter. Crazy stuff.
Yeah i think I remember that Chuck, wasn’t it San Dog’s son dating your daughter?Thought i remember you posted a picture at Flav’s blog of the 2 once, yeah that had to be Crazy to find that out!Are they still together?
Yeah, it was San Dawg’s son. And no, they broke up a long time ago!
They were at a playoff game and he caught Joe Panik’s home run ball. They were standing next to the RF foul pole. He got a signed bat and a pic with Panik for the ball.
Great pics of that in bucket section. So fortunate I got to meet you Chuck, plus Flav SD Xoot Snarkk Blade Zum James and some guys who no longer post at Flap. Good times had by all and Flap always good read.
Yeah, we had some fun at those games.
Breaking News … The 49ers made a deal with are hatred Cowpokes! Niners acquire a beast stud DT OSA Odighawazu , only 27 years old Winder lol)( sp for sure) for are 2026 3rd Rd draft pick. They still have their 1-2 and 4 fourth rd picks.
A veteran to complement both with experience and helping both Collins&West further development.Think might have been a cap issue casualty in Dallas with Quinnen Williams&Kenny Clark brought in last year on big contracts..I like the move now let’s slam OL picks and WR’s/Edge are maybe Bosa&Bosa combo if the price is right ? Probably not but football is unpredictable..
Maybe it was the best use of our 3rd. We have missed on so many of those. I like the move.
He is small 6’2″ 280 so will be pass rush downs only. We got outbid for John franklin-smith who is 10 lbs heavier
Seems #27 is edge and #58 LG. Can Mac get us another 2nd
from NN comment
Maliek Collins
10-15 in pressure rate, makes about half as much, was acquired for a 7th round pick and then we cut him.
So that’s my bar. Good designated interior pass rushers can be acquired fairly cheaply. So it seems like a pretty high price and he’ll need to be really good.
drawing double teams away from nick Bosa, will be fun watching Raheem Morris use him. 3-tech, big LB , 2nd best at pressures when double teamed.. monster Juice!
Just read we signed Tonges for 2 years. That is great news I kinda figured he would go to Seattle to play for our old TE coach who’s now the OC in Seattle.
Draft may be dynamic. #27 to a 2nd and 3rd. We don’t need to draft an edge across from bosa to get double teams off him.
Without Flavor’s blog some of us will die alone…
We’ll always have Paris, DJ.
And this blog, of course.
Wow. Trey Hendrickson to the Ravens after the Maxx Crosby deal fell through.
Good to see the Niners sign Tonges. Really happy to see us get Odighizuwa.
He’s a stud DT and has the 2nd highest %age rate at beating double teams.
We signed standout ST guy and backup LB Garret Wallow.
I thought I’d take a look. I’ve heard mention of this blog a few times on the Flap by Craig, but never put the name, maybe assuming we all knew it? Anyway glad some of you are just as sad as i am re the Flap! Go Niners
PS No to greenlaw!
Lol. Hey Dude! Yeah, If Greenlaw could somehow get right it would be worth a look in training camp. But it is highly unlikely to work out.
https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/post/jxMtHleDEmC_
Excellent on pros and cons for a one gap pass rusher. Use him the right way, Kocourek and Raheem should bring out the best in him.
Only negative is he makes too much.
Dre Greenlaw is back!1 year 7.5M contract to team backup with Fred Warner who I’m sure is thrilled and with Dee Winters the linebacker position just got better if Dre can stay healthy! Other news Bryce Huff surprisingly retires saving the Niners 5M plus in cap space,so yeah another Edge Rusher will be needed in the draft for sure along with OL/WR etc..
Yeah, I figured they’d kick the tires on that idea. Might as well.
Huh. An actual Giants game on TV. I thought comcast gave up on spring training games.
I like all the moves so far except Greenlaw at $7.5m for a year. A season long healthy Greenlaw would be a no brainer but what is the percentage of that happening? He played less than half a season in Denver and got cut from his 3 year $31m contract after just the first year. That says it all.
Huff retiring just saved the Niners from cutting him, no real loss.
Tonges had to be kept and at $8m for 2 years it’s a bargain, all we need now is to feature Tonges and Kittle not Ferrell and Kittle.
Love the Evans signing, JJ priced himself higher than Evans by a minimum of $6m a year, thats a no brainer, bye JJ although I didnt see a hot market for him yet.
The unpronouneable DT from Dallas is a beast, exactly what they needed before the draft and signing 2 versatile O linemen was good insurance.
Now go get a DE pass rusher and any other talented players that fall down the board.
Good start to the off season, Im happy so far.
can Shanalynch convince BA to stay with team.
I’d say there are better odds that BA doesn’t play another down in the NFL.
I wouldn’t want BA on the team even if he was free Tom. All players support each other doing whatever they need to do to get a big bag and BA did that. But then he turned his back on the team and players and prioritized himself at the expense of his teammates. Thats not forgivable.
I heard he and the Commanders are talking but the Niners should hold on to him until post June 1 when his cap hit for a new team shrinks massively and the Niners might get a 6th or 7th in trade for his worthless ass.
Fuck BA I say ship him off to Iran 🇮🇷 he’s burned all bridges with the 49ers! Though I guess they could screw with him and hold him hostage since they still have own his sorry ass till atleast the draft ..
They own him till the season starts, but no value in letting his stink settle over the team that long. Hold him till June 2 and try and trade him for a bag of peanuts.
Real no risk on Dre for me 12th at a prove it reasonable contract 7.5 with the Broncos still picking up his balance owed. He’s still only 28 and most cases say the 2nd year of an Achilles recovery is the one the player looks better so I’m optimistic.Dre is a menacing presence Shannylynch knows the veteran leadership he brings and teamed with Warner,Winters and also Bethune that’s a Damm solid group imo..
For me Kat it’s as much about now they’ve signed Dre they wont look for a player in his spot so when he gets hurt again it’s back up time and we saw what that looked like until Kendricks and Wallow showed something right at season’s end. I want reliable talented players not retread guys with a big injury risk.
By the time that matters, they’ll have a good enough idea if Greenlaw is viable.
Yeah, more O line help would be nice. We’ve gotten some backups, now we need starters.
Niners signed Packer safety Nate Hobbs. Big hitter. Trouble staying healthy.
Interesting move. Hobbs is a slot corner, which is where Upton Stout played last year. I liked Stout, he played with heart, but is a small guy at 5’8″. Hobbs is 6′ and known as a run defender corner in nickle D.
Yeah, I’m pleased with our FA so far, to me the big if is if Evans can stay healthy. I don’t remember seeing anything about Ferrell he played tough last year. I think we still need a couple more WR’s in FA. I doubt we get a 2nd for Jones but we might get a 3rd and in my mind our next QB will be Rourke. Our division is gonna be a monster this year and I think AZ will be back in the mix. All we gotta do is stay healthy and we can play with any of em.
Disagree on Ferrell Winder. They paid a lot of money to get him as a blocking TE, widely viewed as largely innefective and certainly overpaid at $12m. Tonges far outplayed him as a pass catcher and was just as good blocking.
He was a poor choice FA IMO. Having said that he is still the 3rd best TE they have and with Kittle almost certain to lose some time I would keep him unless they land a good talent in the draft. To start the year it’s Tonges, Ferrell and Willis who is strictly a ST player.
If they can only get a 3rd for Mac then keep him, they get a 3rd after next season for him as a comp pick anyway and Brock needs a capable back up.
12th- I am talking about the D-lineman
Just read he signed with Washington
sometimes this copilot bullshit is totally wrong it just gave me two different answers about ferrell.
I think with BA the FO hopes some team will roll the dice on draft day.
Teams will just wait till after June 1st, when we cut BA. Unless there is some kind of interest from a few teams.
Which I don’t see. But stranger things have happened.
Sounds like he wants to go to the Commandos.
So is anyone wondering what Jersey number will Mike Evans wear since he’s always been number 13 which is Brock Purdy’s number? Will Brock workout a deal to change his?Im guessing no but Evans is a certain HOF so time will tell on this one..
Grizzled vet or not, I think Evans will accept a nice gift from Purdy for Evans to change his number.
Mays didn’t give Jim Beauchamp shit for 24 in ’72…
Hah! Respect!
Did I post pics of the program my boither found last year that I scored a 1973game between the Mets and Astros at Shea?
Mays won the game in the bottom of the 11th with a base hit.
It could get weird, superstitions run deep.
Matt Hennessy signed by Cowboys. What is the plan for C. Brendel guarantees a collapsed pocket every pass play.
Webb gem tonight in WBC.
Yeah that was pretty sweet.
From the forum:
was Gabe Jacas. You want to talk about a thick, powerful dude that wins with speed-2-powe and collapses the pocket. That’s a classic KK guy.
will jacas be there in the 2nd, trade up with one of the 4ths
With a name like Jackass you can’t go wrong.
New thread is up.
