Chi-Town Beat-Down We’re (almost) # 1 ! ! !

What a game that was! For the objective outsider that must have been a fun game to watch. Sunday Night prime time fun. Tirico and Collins(gag)worth(y) were beside themselves with the insanity of these high-flying offenses marching up and down the field scoring TDs. Reminiscent really of the old 60’s AFL days and their high-scoring affairs. And it really was a blast watching this offense just cruising up and down the field. In fact when we forced the FG late, I thought that we would score to take the lead.

Holding it would be a different matter.

To me it was an exercise in frustration to watch our defense just get smoked over and over on the same plays that have plagued this team all season. Screens, delayed dumps, and 10 yard crossers continually befuddle these guys. And the occasional deep pass. This defense is supposed to stop that, but we stopped neither.

I get that we are undermanned, but there were situations where we should have forced the issue rather than play soft. The 3rd and 14 especially. On the first two drives that we shut down, we played press man on 3rd down and blitzed 5 & 6. It worked both times. On the 3rd and 14 later we played soft and it bit us hard with a 20 yard gain.

We did try blitzing Lenoir but that rarely worked. I just felt like Saleh had no answer for Ben Johnson’s offense and he was outcoached. And I get how now Deetroit isn’t nearly as good on offense this season without him.

Still and all a win is a win is a win and we are in position to lock down the #1 seed with a win over Seattle. Given all the ups and downs this year, that is amazing. Kinda sucks that we get rewarded for this by getting flexed to Saturday night tho.

Bring on the Seahawks!!!

An interesting story from Maiocco about Bethune and Winters on the last play of the game.

Salah had called up a blitz by both players but they decided to drop into coverage instead after recognizing the Bears play, which is why only 2 linemen rushed the passer.

It left Caleb with nowhere to throw the ball and resulted in the failed play.

That is confident, ballsy play by Bethune and Winters doing the exact opposite of their DC playcall.

Salah encourages his players to act if they are sure they see something and they did on the biggest play of the game.

Wow, the rams have lost their mojo, 21-0 Atlanta at the half

Any word on Trent? Short week not good for Pearsall, though hopefully Kittle is a go.

Can SF run ball on Seattle? PFR has them one of top rated defenses vs run. Rams lit them up for 450 in air, but last few possessions were all 3/outs and missed FG that allowed Seachickens to rally for W.

Been saying for a few weeks now that LA’s defense is bad. Not sure what happened to it but they are non-existent. With Mac Jones we gained ~400 yards.

The fumble and pick killed us. Their offense is no joke, but Saleh really needs to figure out how to get consistent pressure. He did some blitzing but was easily covered for the most part.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Blitzing only works if it gets home and it just doesn’t with the players they have available.

I think Salah is balancing it just about right. I’m not a fan of the too soft zone they use especially in 3rd and long but I understand why he’s doing it.

The back 4, including Demo, have not been very good. For every good play they make there’s a bone headed one. Demo was much better in the slot than on the outside IMO.

Brown is a straight liability in deep field coverage but I have to presume the Braintree thinks Sigle is a bigger liability.

Upton Sout is in the protocol and on a short week he probably won’t play which means they will have to shuffle the deck chairs. I hope to see Sigle back on the field, Luter and Pinnock suck. Lucas is so-so on a down by down basis with a highlight play on occasion.

Trent also probably won’t play, a hammy and a short week dont mix.

Keion White went out and I haven’t heard anything on him yet but he has been playing well.

CJ West has really come on with more playing time so he might get the nod.

Fingers crossed Kittle is able to go and for goodness sake pair him up with Tonges, those 2 would be lethal and I rather see Tongues instead or Bourne or Sky Moore.

Niners can certainly beat Seattle but just like with Chicago, they dont have room to make mistakes. If not for the pick 6 and PAT the Niners beat the Bears by 11 instead of a last second defense that could have lost them the game.

This is the longest spring training, that is the only good thing that came out of all the injuries. The Niners get to see if a player could be a starter. And they should draft accordingly.

They can pick and choose better than they have. Saleh went hard on the first 2 drives on 3rd and 8. Press man coverage as well. He rushed 6 guys, and Williams was immediately flushed from the pocket and threw the ball away both times.

3rd and 14 he went soft zone and got burned. I’m not saying go all Buddy Ryan, just blitz hard in obvious passing spots. The 2nd TD was 3rd and long iirc.

The Niners boom box coming out of the tunnel should rock out to Elton John “Saturday Night is Alright to Fight”!!

It would really Fire up the crowd even more with everything on the line,1st place division winners,1st place NFC conference and every game at Levi’s including the SB it doesn’t get any better than this!!
So let’s CRUSH the Seahawks and send their asses on the road like the Rams to start their playoffs in frigid conditions, road game🥶

Its just one bozzo’s opinion but what a tool Diante Lee of The Ringer is.

He has slammed and dismissed the 49ers all season and proclaimed they are going nowhere and have no chance and done so with absolute certainty.

In the current power rankings most prognosticaters have the Niners at number 4 or 5, the lowest is ranking them at 6 and then there is this genius Diante Lee, who has the 49ers as the 11th ranked team in the league.

Way to go Diante, how to tell people what you really know about football without telling what you know.

    Tool.

“The San Francisco 49ers listed Christian McCaffrey as a non-participant in their Tuesday practice due to a back injury. McCaffrey is not expected to miss Week 18 with playoff seeding on the line for the 49ers. Brian Robinson Jr. would be in line for a significant workload increase if McCaffrey’s injury worsens.”

I knew this was going to happen, the Niners just don’t understand the punishment a running back goes through, and they stick their heads in the sand

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Live by the sword and die by the sword. I’m sure it’s all preventative. Jerry Rice used to limp around the field in pre-game warm-ups.

Sure, I’d like them to spell CMC more, but they don’t. Kittle has missed a ton of time in his career as well. Purdy has missed time.

All these guys are one play from devastating injuries. Can’t sweat that shit anymore.

  12. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

I’m not worried about CMC Kevin ,he gets a lot of maintenance time between games like most star players , he even knows when to take a few plays off during a game, he’s been the #1 Fantasy player in football. He will be out there with the top seed at stake no doubt about it!! I expect Kittle will be ready as well ,Trent?probably not..
