No Help From the Dead Birds – Trap Game Lurking

Oh well. Both Seattle and LA were on the road yesterday, and both crushed their opponents. After LA’s somewhat stunning loss to the Panthers, they smoked the Cards to the tune of a 45-17 win. Seattle also beat the shit out of the Dirty Birds in Atlanta 37-9. Of course those 2 teams have 7 wins between them, so a loss by either would have been surprising.

After winning 3 in a row and not moving up in the playoff picture, the 49ers moved to the 6th spot over Chicago on their bye week with the Bears loss to the Peckers. Funny, eh? All that means is that these guys cannot afford to lose any more games. Starting this weekend. Mainly because Deetroit is hot on our heels at 8-5. But they have a rough set of games to close the season. And the improbable Panthers and Cowpokes are lurking (but they suck).

The Niners? We have the 2-11 Titans and the reeling Colts these next 2 weeks. The Colts just lost Danny Dimes to an achilles tear, but next up is the Titans. Funny thing about the Titans is they just smoked the vaunted Cleveland Browns defense to the tune of 31 points. Cam Ward was average but he hit some big plays, and Tony Pollard rushed for 164, so they played pretty tough. Of course they also gave up 29 points and over 410 yards to the mediocre Browns offense, but hey, I’m sure they’ll take a win any way they can get one. We can’t rest on our laurels and have happen to us what happened to the Rams and Carol.

So, as we stand, we are one game out of 1st in the West, but really 2 games behind the Rams due to their 6-1 record vs 3-3 in common opponent games. The Seattle tiebreaker will be determined a lot by that last game. If we can get to 11-4, I think we make the playoffs. but we could fall anywhere between 1 and 7. I think we stick at 6. Chi and Seattle is a tough finish.

And in team news, Bartch goes to the IR and they signed LB Garret Wallow from the Broncos waiver wire.

Greg Roman is still an OC? hmmnn

Not that Hurts and Eagles are exactly scintillating tonight. 2 turnovers on same play by Hurts is a one off, no?

What a nutty game. Harbs should be blitzing all the time. When Hurts is pressured he’s wild.

And the 4th pick for Hurts!!!

Is it just me, or does Shanahan need to get Pearsall more involved in the offense? Dude has only 9 targets for 20 yards (-11 EPA) in the 3 games since returning from injury.

File this under “The Rich Get Richer” (baseball) folder . . . One of the top relievers last season, Edwind Diaz, signed with the Bums for 3 years ($69 million). Diaz was EASILY the top bullpen arm on the market this season.

    Giants? Zzzzzzzzz . . .

Whoa! Phillip Rivers agreed to join the Colts practice squad today. Rivers last played in 2020.

Holy shit! I thought April fool’s day was a little early. Or late. That’s crazy. Hey, if it weas good enough for George Blanda, why not?

44 years old? I guess seeing Aaron Rodgers out there being kinda good made him wistful for getting chased around. He was drafted the year before Rodgers iirc.

Wow , the Giants hit the lottery and moved into the 4th slot. What a gift we usually don’t see that.

Cool. These guys need to hit some paydirt with their drafts. Been a while.

Eldridge is their big hope now. Kid is still only 21 so he’s a possible legit power hitter but at some point, you’d think they’d focus on RH power guys.

I think Pearsall isn’t completely right with his knee injury.

Pearsall and Purdy were doing great to start the season, but now I think he’s just not getting enough separation. My hope is he gets a little better each week and can get to where he was before the injury.

    New thread is up.

The Giants lost 5 unprotected players to the rule 5 draft. I don’t really know how the system works but I guess players who are unprotected in the minor system can be claimed for good. At least that is what I understood.
