Hurtin’ for Certain

Another week another couple of crippling injuries. Now we are back to looking for a kicker as Dinero Pineiro got hurt trying his best Garo Yepremian impersonation, and Fred Warner’s capable back-up Tatum Bethune got the dreaded high ankle sprain.

The good news is I think Kyle Shanahan understands now that the imperative for this team is to score early and often. Granted the Cardinals are an unmitigated train-wreck of a team, but the 49ers offense with Purdy and Kittle rolling with CMC was looking sharp. I hope Pearsall joins the party this week as the WRs didn’t get too much action, but with the passing game clicking and getting nice chunks of yards, it’ll do a lot to keep the defense at least playing with a lead.

I’m not very enamored with this bend-and-break style of soft zone, but we don’t have any reinforcements getting healthy, so the hope is Nick Martin gets fast and furious, and Keion White / Sam O can get the pressure.

I would like to see SOME press-man, and some corner blitzes out of that, but we will see. Carolina isn’t the push-over they once were, but they aren’t the Rams either. Let’s see if these guys can put 2 games together.

Didn’t Balt just cut him? Ahhh, it was the Commandos. Who just signed Jake Moody.

I just hope whoever we play screws up like AZ did at least then we can probably keep it close.

Carolina isn’t as bad as the Cards, but they are on par with Houston. A team that beat us. But since we are at home, I think we will be OK.

They are on a bit of a roll but got beat by the Saints, and Buff smoked them pretty hard. Then again Bryce Young was Player of the Week this week for his 448 yard, 3 TD performance.

As usual all about the pressure.

Not that CMC wants revenge, but . . . if anyone, it would be ESPN.

KNBR reporting the Niners are going to release Brandon Aiuke. Wow

Yeah he’s done with the 9ers. Maiocco says they voided BA contract in training camp which throws a twist into it all.

BA has no more guaranteed money. He got paid $49 million for what turned out to be 7 very mediocre games and now he’s gone at the end of the season.

If he gets cut before June 1 it’s a $29 million cap hit or after June 1 the cap hit gets spread over 2026 and 2027, most of which is 2027.

Personally I’m glad to see him go. Turned into a diva, grabbed the money and didn’t perform on the field or off it after his injury which is why they voided his contract. Apparently BA has decided not to file a grievance and accepts the decision.

All that bullshit from Shanahan and Lynch about him coming back and that his ractice window will be opened any week now.

2 years ago the Niners should have been scoring 40 points a game, but Kyle does more clock watching than trying to score. With the D having 2nd and 3rd stringers out there he was forced to score a lot, just think if he had run the offense that way against KC.

Now we know BA isn’t playing this year and will be cut next year, most likely after June 1 it’s time to inject the rookie WR Jordan Watkins into the mix a bit more. He was dynamic in training camp and he and Purdy were apparently connecting regularly for big gains and spectacular catches.

Watkins got hurt and has been almost the invisible man ever since. Pearsall is a good WR but so far can’t stay healthy and other than that it’s a room full of older and slow possession type guys. Purdy is a gunslinger with only Pearsall able to go deep. He ran 4.41 at the combine but Watkins as a true burner who ran 4.37.

If Pearsall and Watkins can get on the field at the same time with Jennings and Kittle then that is a potent and complimentary hands group, each one taking coverage.

The biggest problem for Watkins is Shanahan hates rookie WR.

Tell ya, it was cool to see Purdy audibling into big plays. Esp the TD to Kittle where he saw he was single-covered by an LB. He audibled more in that game that I’ve seen by far.

I found the Barrows and Kawakami YouTube very interesting. They go into the BA current stuff but also reveal what was behind the Deebo issues and what that was all about.

Worth a watch if you have the time and inclination.

Still have games with Titans Browns and Bears (how did they get to 8-3?) but gotta get this one at home. If Niners can run football it keeps D off the field/burns clock. Maybe game 2 of Purdy comeback he’s more in tune with everyone.

Disgusting to watch Rams roll TB and become #1 seed in NFC. Maybe losing to Shanahan woke McV and team up. Davante Adams is local guy from East PA and Paly HS.

Funny that Kawakami doesn’t get why teams defer the kickoff. If you have a strong defense, it is a solid take to stop the opponent and gain the 2nd half kickoff.

Also, you can work it where you get the ball twice in a row. Once to close the 1st half, and to open the 2nd half.

    Duh.

I think we should be doing the Walsh and get the ball and get that 1st TD. He was all about getting on top and staying there at all cost.

    New thread is up.
