Mad props to 12th Man for travelling to Levi’s South and bringing home a gut-wrenching hard-fought victory over the Rams last night. Mac Jones, wounded, cramping, and shovelling bananas down his gullet all night, managed to will the 49ers to a win without any starting WRs, TEs, or run game.
The defense gave up 450 yards, but made the last crucial stop in OT on 4th and one from the 12 yard line. Very reminiscent of Pete Carroll NOT going with the run in Seattle’s Super Bowl loss, as Matt Stafford and co amassed 378 in the air, and only 78 on the ground. McVay even fell on his sword after the game calling it “a shit call”.
Heroes all over the place. Amazingly, Kendrick Bourne overcame his terrible game last week to go for 10 and 142 as he gashed the Rams secondary all over the place. The one drop did kill a drive however. Recent practice squad grad Trevis Gipson recovered a botched pitch by Blake Corum to thwart a deep drive by LA, and Alfred Collins had a strip/recovery on Kyren Williams on the one yard line to kill an LA drive late in the game.
CMC had 139 yards from scrimmage, mainly on 8 catches for 82 yards (and 22 carried for 57 yards [eeeek, 2.6 per]), and Bournse of course, but Jones spread the ball out to 7 different guys. Notably, Jake Tonges with 7/41 yards and (GASP!) a TD pass on 1st and goal.
Still troubled by the lack of a running game, and the red zone badness. Shanny mixed things up on those first 2 drives, and then went back to bland bullshit fails on the next 4 red zone appearances, nearly getting Jones killed on yet another obvious 3rd down pass play on 3rd and goal.
And, after the Ram goal line fumble, Shanny went WAY conservative. 1st or 2nd down BEG for play action but instead we burned 8 seconds off the clock and allowed LA to time the score. We didn’t even try any kind of misdirection runs.
Hey 12th, did you take any pics?
Gutsy performance on a short week following a forgettable outing vs Jax. Nice bounce back in the division and extra days off to boot.
No complaints here.
Word is Kittle will be ready to come back. Given the 49ers crack (smoking) medical team, maybe he should get an extra week.
I took 2 pics Chuck, one before that game when the Niners were warming up and the other right after the win.
I’ve no idea how to upload them here?
email them to me and I can post them.
Sent to your Comcast
I didn’t know the Niners were 8.5 under dogs. Someone Either made a lot of money or lost a lot
The line started at 2 and grew as the various players were ruled out. Huge upset win.

There is no possible way I thought Alfred Collins would be improving this fast from game to game. It just doesn’t happen for DTs. We would be very lucky if it continued.
MW did not have a stat but he was pushing people around. We need a classic pass rusher next to him because he creates lanes.
My hope for 2026 draft is the best OT available and the best pass rushing DL available with our first two picks. Maybe even acquire the pass rusher before the trade deadline. It seams Robert Beal could be that guy, but he is always hurt. His first step is as quick as any.

that is nuts. 2/3 Niner fans if not more
I estimated quite a bit more Chuck, around 75%. It’s about the same as a home game at Levi.
Niners Faithful are an amazing traveling fan base.
That game ranks really highly for me, an unexpected, unbelievable win. The kind of game that can define a season.
Purdy is likely to miss another 1 to 2 games according to Rapaport.
I didn’t like how fast Purdy came back with 3 games in 10 days to play and especially since Mac Jones was playing well enough to win.
This makes much more sense to me if it’s true. A healthy Purdy is what the team needs, not an 80% or whatever.
His movement is what separates him from Mac and makes Purdy special.
Steve Young was talking somewhere a couple days ago and he said that toe injury would lead to missing high on throws due to not being able to set his feet and push off correctly on throws.
mm I don’t think Jones was healthy either. They had to activate the backup guy (Martinez?) who has never thrown a pass in NFL. Jones gutted this one out but Purdy still is more mobile and has better track record, agreed. Give Jones credit for rolling out left on 2nd TD pass and mostly avoiding Jimmy G level sacks.
I think McVay made the right call on the 4th down play. What lost the game for em was the missed ex-point and field goal. We needed a break and we got one for a change.
Neither team was running well, so it was a curious call. I’d have rolled out and done a quick pass.
I’m still very worried about the goal line offense. Shanahan has to get better than 28th place.
And it bothers me no one talks about this glaring issue.
The only thing I can think of is that the media doesn’t want to say negative shit about him because this has been a problem for years. Even the SB year we kicked more field goal than we should have imo.
Nice to have Reddy Eddy when it matters. Our ST unit blocking kicks is a major improvement too.
This is fukd up.
Report: Mark Sanchez was critically injured in an Indianapolis stabbing – NBC Sports https://share.google/gjkSnYWl86rAC1SG9
From what I heard Sanchez was wasted and attacked the guy. Sanchez was arrested.
Who knows? He prollly yelled “Butt fumble!!”
Gonna go out on a limb and suggest Sanchez won’t be back in the booth Chuck. Drunk and disorderly is another butt fumble with consequences.
Yeah, getting stabbed and arested at the same time…have a nice day.
This is the Rams really loud home crowd on 3rd down:

In fairness, he should not be playing, nor should the 49ers count on a player like Colby so early in the season. But injuries have forced their hand, and these are the results.
Colby put up a valiant effort in his first start, but it’s been downhill since.
Colby allowed a pair of quarterback hits, a sack, and four total pressures. When you count the number of missed blocks, busts, and non-competitive plays, Colby was even worse than those numbers would suggest. We’re not going to sit here and poo-poo a seventh-rounder saying, “He sucks!” Colby was taken in the round he was for a reason. He was thrown to the wolves, and he’s getting chewed up, as expected.

Those PFF guys smoke a lot of glue.
Brendel gets at 73 grade for run blocking?
WTAF?
This whole team is running on fumes right now and they are playing there asses off. Hopefully the extra few days off will help with the injuries. Thank God for Bourne he stepped right back in where he left off. If we had Kittle back our oline would have had much better stats. The Rams have a fucking good defense and with a little luck we did good enough to win that game.

I still can’t figure out why Green Bay settled for the tie in that Cowboys game.
DIdn’t think the Ravens would be the team to crater this season.
No undefeated teams pretty quick as well.
And the Cards keep shooting themselves in the feet. Yet another self-fumble before the goal line. And Seattle loses to the Buccos. Our next foe.
If we don’t get Baker off his rhythm he’s going to destroy our secondary. Egbuka will be a nightmare.
Per usual it’s all about the lines. Block and pressure.
Another game like the last one, and we will be down to Adrian Martinez’s backup. Who isn’t on the team yet.
New thread is up.
