Purdy is Reddy to Rock – Game IV

In the immortal words of the Angels, my boyfriend’s back and there’s gonna be trouble.

Brock Purdy is officially off the injured list! Glad there’s no travel this weekend, so that isn’t an issue. And even the Rams game is only a quick jaunt to Levi’s south. here’s to hoping that we have enough weapons at our disposal to take care of Jacksonville.

Say what you will about them, and I don’t know much about their defense, but they are up near the top in points allowed at 17 per game. But the 2 teams they’ve beaten are winless Houston and 1-win Carolina. Their loss was to the Browning led Bengals. Very telling is their +5 turnover ratio. But Trev is looking pretty pedestrian these days.

We on the other hand are playing down to the level of our opponents so far at -1. Purdy of course owns 2 of those turnovers in that Seattle game. Mac Jones has done a very good job keeping the course of Good Ship Niner pointed in the right direction, but man we need to throttle someone and get the starters out early for the Rams game. We cannot have another nail-biter game. It just leads to more problems.

More good news is Demarcus Robinson is returning after serving his DUI suspension. He looked in sync in the preseason, and we need him out there with Jennings still questionable. And I’d love to get the workload off of CMC’s shoulders for fear of him hitting the hurt list. Give Robinson more touches. And ease some work off of Ricky Pearsall’s shoulders as well. He’s questionable with a knee problem, but I’m pretty sure he’s gonna go.

Of course they’ll want to sit the starters early for the Rams game. The Niners will be getting blown out by LA by the end of the 1st quarter.

Fingers crossed they aren’t bringing Purdy back too soon, he’s the better QB but its a long season and he plays again on Thursday night.

It might be that Mac Jones is too injured to go anyway.

I’m looking to see what WR Robinson can do for the offense, so far its the slick Rick and CMC show, they need to spread the love.

    Niners 24-17

I hope that the O-line is up for the task, they have not looked good in the run game or the passing game.

Pass pro has been OK. Jags have a solid run D. Quick passing game once again.

Fucking play action. EVERYONE expects us to run.

      Use that to our advantage.

Adam Schefter says Jauan Jennings will play but will be limited, whatever that means.

Connor Colby gutted out an injured groin start at LG last week with mixed results. Hopefully he is healthier this week and can build on that.

Dominic Puni hasn’t been right all year so far at RG and with the phsically underwhelming Brendel at C that all adds up to not very much push up front in the run game so far.

The screen game is the answer to an overly aggressive D. Shanahan only used it a couple of times last week and it worked well including the late game CMC play that set up the game winning FG for Eddie P. Need more screens today, the Jags will come after Purdy and test his injury.

      Niners 24-7

I’m still worried about the terrible red zone offense. Having Purdy back will help but still, 24th in the league is bad bad bad.

No one seems to call this an issue.

  6. willedav's avatar willedav says:

I’ve seen suggestions in other blogs Niners could get Kayvon T off Giants. Thoughts? Trade away Aiyuk?

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

1st and goal run up the middle. No one expect that Kyle? Terrible play calling.

    Yet another red zone fail.

Sorry but throwing to CMC and Pearsal only is not going to get them anywhere. 3 defenders around CMC, stupid throw, M Jones did it too.

Wonder if Jones woulda won that game. He couldn’t have done much worse.

  40. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Berger Musings: I think we are just a 500 team. If we can’t stop the run or get pressure on the QB, we will need to win with offense. Not much chance of that with our WRs so banged up, and we have no chance of winning if Purdy keeps overthrowing them. I’ll continue to watch, but this D-line is a year away from being effective enough to control a game.

I don’t know, man. Very very big game Thursday night.

I’m hoping this is just one of their monumental fuck up games.

Non-conference non-division. 4 turnovers and we get none. Again.

Beat the Rams and we are fine. Lose and this team may be in a world of hurt.

but here we are again with 2/3 of the team hurting and all kinds of problems on O D and special teams.
