Game 1 – Schrödinger’s Calf

It is hurt? Is it not hurt? Either way, the the calf, uh cat will be out of the bag tomorrow once the game starts, if not earlier. Not sure if this is gamesmanship on the part of the 49ers, or simply nothing, as CMC said himself yesterday, or a bigger problem like last year.

Hearing ‘calf’ send alarm bells in my head given the achilles issues, but hey, that’s me. Anyhow, this should be a good test for our offense. Regardless of CMC, Seattle has a soft interior line, so we look to run. Then again, Seattle has a solid run game themselves so they look to do the same.

Their defense isn’t spectacular in any stretch, but they are decent. We don’t know what we are on D. To win this game it may just come down to who makes the mistakes on offense. With or without CMC our offense should be able to move the ball. Red zone? Well, that’s where we missed CMC the most.

Seattle? They have Slinging Sourdough Sam Ginger Darnold. But they don’t have DK Metcalfe. We need to get on top early and pressure Darnold. He’s not gonna run like Wilson, or even Geno, so just force him to fuck up.

Niners 28-20. No fucking FGs.

“Signs are pointing toward 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (calf) playing vs. the Seahawks,” Mike Garofolo tweeted on Saturday. “Kyle Shanahan wouldn’t speculate on McCaffrey’s status after he was a DNP yesterday but McCaffrey was confident he’d play. It’s looking like he will.”

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Yeah and hopefully more than a few sets of downs. Over the years after missing a lot of game one year his bounces back the next and has a great year. But time could be catching up to him and that would really be bad for us. Anyway fingers crossed.

  2. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

I liked what Harbaugh did to KC.

Heavy pass game. Herbert ate their D and wore them out. Seattle likes to blow up the inside running lanes to disrupt the pocket.

Work the edges with the short passing game?

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

As long as we don’t play that preventive crap I am good with just about anything. Should be a fun game today that actually means something. Shanny better be on his play calling also because if I know what’s coming you can bet they do too.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Dallas came out passing as well and it worked early. Seattle may overload the box to help their bad interior D.

Would love quick passes to start the game.

  3. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Not sure of this will work, but it’s got some great advice from Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, and Steve Young.

Apropos more this year than last, but Walsh’s comment to Montana was “Don’t try to do too much. It’s OK to punt. We have a good defense.”

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

CMC was a ‘full participant’ in Saturday’s walk thru.

    But yeah, walk thru.

    We will see.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

CMC not on the inactive list so there’s that.

  6. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Great play call

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Nice drive. Seattle’s run D is better than I thought.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Run D looking soft.

  9. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Give em a gift td

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

That pass would not have been caught.

    Rookie mistake.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

We’d better figure out how to run.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Pressure wins. Esp against Darnold.

  13. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Nice stop. Need to get the running game going. Nice to see Kittle getting touches instead of holding him back for the run game.

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

D looking better. Got to get the O rolling.

  15. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

His is where I disagree with the play calling. Why run on 3rd and very long. IMO, pass the ball, take the chance. I guess there is a greater chance of an INT rather than a fumble? Still I would throw the ball.

  16. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    Shit, Kittle out 😡😡😡

  17. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Kittle out with a bad hammy.

    Fuck.

  18. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

I am not surprised with Moody

  19. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

1st down call fucked that drive. Time was running out and they flailed.

    And there you go.

    Missed a 12 yarder.

  20. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

    Unreal

  21. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

I /bet Kyle is calling Lynch right now. Get me a fucking kicker

  22. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Shanny should have called time.

And now we are gonna let them score.

They are worried about the Minnesota game last year.

  23. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Ha. Who could have predicted Moody would miss a chip shot? Everybody.

Shanny is a complete dope on this issue. Get some kicker they surely have on the speed dial and cut Moody loose, like they should have done 6 weeks ago, if not in the off season. Shanny risks pissing off the whole team by keeping this guy.

  24. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

And their guy hits from 48.

  25. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Moody is just not a NFL kicker, I don’t care what he did in college that had the Niners drafting him

  26. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Kyle had better figure out what to do with the blitz Seattle is doing, you don’t want your $265 million QB running for his life

  27. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Shanahan has to go for it on 4th down from anywhere within field goal range for the rest of this game and dump this headcase right after the game.

There’s no easier FG than the one Moody just missed. Inexcusible.

  28. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Everyone knows that crossing route.

  29. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

They need more heat on Darnold

  30. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shanny spelling CMC is about 2 years too late but yeah.

  31. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Kyle going conservative, interception and let’s run the ball only

  32. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Throwing away 1st downs.

  33. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Sigh, special teams is going to cost us this game

  34. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Can’t blame Moody for that one, but…

  35. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

An entire off season to fix special teams. Yet, deja vu all over again. Inexcusable…

  36. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Saleh went soft on 3rd and 4. Bad call. Sick of this soft shit.

Esp with Darnold. Pressure him like we did and he sucks.

  37. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

D needs to do more than 4 guys. They aren’t getting home.

  38. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Really bad calls there. You fucking go play action on 2nd and 2. Or a bootleg. SOMETHING misdirection rather than the obvious.

  39. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Throwing away another 1st and goal.

  40. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    I had my eyes closed

  41. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shanahan’s play calling in the red zone hasn’t changed.

    It is fucking awful.

Purday was a touch behind Pearsall and it cost him the TD.

  42. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    Should be 16-10

  43. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Made 1 of 3 EZ field goals. You can’t win games with a dysfunctional kicking game.

  44. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

D is on point. Shanny is sucking in the red zone. Again.

  45. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Purdy trying to do too much, but of course Kyle will take it out of his hands and run the ball

  46. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Stupid for Purdy. Read the blog, fuck-o.

  47. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

what is Purdy looking at, both interceptions 100% bad throws into covered receiver’s.

  48. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Game’s in Purdy’s hands.

  49. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Single coverage throws are much better.

  50. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

This is another Kyle problem, he doesn’t play with any urgency, sitting in the huddle letting the clock run. You already are having trouble in the red zone. Get down there and score a TD, especially since your kicker is not reliable

  51. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Can’t believe Seattle didn’t go 4th and 1.

  52. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shocking. 1st and goal and a run up the middle with CMC.

    Shanny is no fucking genius.

  53. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

In shocking news Jennings is hurt his first game back after a not hold out.

  54. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Once again, that’s a perfect 1st down call. On 2nd down.

  55. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I’ll take dumb luck for $600, Alex.

  56. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

The Niners should not lose this game

  57. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Hoooooooooooooooooooo!

  58. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Some times it’s better to be lucky than good

  59. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Defense wins the day.

  60. willedav's avatar willedav says:

    F the MF Seachickens!’

as Flavor would say, that is all

  61. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Seattle will be second-guessed for the 4th down wimp-out. They could have iced the game.

I totally thought the pass to Tongues was a throw-away.

    Unreal.

  62. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Niners dodged a howitzer to pull out the win in this one. Defense bent, didn’t break in the very end. Bosa basically wins it for ’em.

Get a new kicker. Stop the idiot run calls in the red zone.

    Seattle isn’t that good…

  63. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Sould have been a 10 point win. Niners need to get rid of Moody right now, clear out his damn locker.

  64. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Now what are they going to do with all the hurt players. Seeing how complicated Kyle makes the offense they could struggle. Unless Kyle develops a game plan that rookies will be able to excel

  65. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Shanahan says Moody stays, there’s no question.

    WTF.

  66. Winder's avatar Winder says:

First game of the season chaos but sure glad we took it. Moody has a chance to lose every game for us. way to stressful for me. Shanny looks pretty much to same to me, more stress.

  67. 4th and Chip Shot's avatar 4th and Chip Shot says:

You guys will be stuck with Jake Moody for the rest of his career. He’ll continue to be the Hunter Strickland of football and hopefully continue to cost the Niners pivotal games.

  68. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Even company man Maiocco says enough is enough with Moody. Every time he kicks the ball its a hold your breath event, that has to be bad for his teammates who all work so hard to put Moody in position to succeed.

Shanahan and Lynch need to grow a pair and do what’s obvious to everyone, cut bait with their 3rd round blunder.

  69. Berger's avatar Berger says:

This team has so many rookies and youth, it is these kinds of games they typically lose early, like they opening loss to Detroit in 1981. It didn’t seem like we were stuffing the run but the statistics are good. Our defensive line wasn’t dominant. they did just enough. Our offensive line is not so good. Our passing game dried up when Seattle went man coverage. Watching replays, the WRs weren’t getting open. This why Shanny was trying to get the run game going. I agreed with what he was going. Purdy won a game he probably shouldn’t have won. I was very impressed with Dee Winters. I did not get a good look at Mykell Williams. He didn’t make any plays but I never saw him get run over. Kalia Davis was good. Tonges made plays, just like in pre-season. I’m wondering why Shanny is keeping Moody.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The D started out kinda soft. Esp on the 3rd and 8 where they didn’t bring pressure. They got better and better as the game went on. Their only TD came on an unnecessary PI on Stout. He got thrown at a lot and did pretty well but for that early drive.

Purdy’s 2nd pick was just flat stupid. Throwing into triple coverage is never gonna work. The 1st one was a good read by the LB as we run that deep cross all the time.

THe TD to Tonges is all on Tonges. He went and got the ball. It was a wounded duck.

The defense was dramatically better than the last couple years.

  70. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Just another 3rd RD bust pick.

Probably doesn’t have anyone holding him on a fantasy roster either. Why put up with the constant adventures of Shakey Jake?

Waive him. No one will claim him anyway.

  71. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Of all of the rookies, I thought Siegle was solid, Williams was OK, Stout had some plays, good and bad. Stout and Williams were probably getting a lesson on the speed of the game. They will probably get better fairly quickly as the game slows down for them. I’m sure that happened to Siegle, too, but he looked like he was already up to speed.

  72. Berger's avatar Berger says:

The stats say the defensive line did well. The eye test said they need a lot of work.

  73. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Dustin Hopkins should be available. Unless Cleveland wants him back on Monday, after their kicker’s dreadful performance.

  74. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Lenoir needs to control his antics.

  75. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Niners get the #11 pick on the waiver wire for the first 3 weeks. After that it resets each week.
