Here Come the 49ers ! ! !

Another Old Fave. . .

T minus 5 days and counting before the season starts. Everyone is slowing crawling out of the training room, and the team is as healthy as it has been since I don’t know. 2021?

And wonder of wonders, Jauan Jennings calf magically healed itself as the 49ers were mulling over signing Kendrick Bourne to take his spot. At a much cheaper price of course. Leaving JJ with the option of missing the season, or quitting entirely. Neither of which he wanted to do. Whatever leverage he thought he had with all the injries in the WR room were pretty much vaporized by the spinning door of WRs that came and went at a dizzying pace.

Looks to me that they are set to move on from JJ. Unless he really does become the Super Bowl MVP he should have been (sob) a couple years ago. But we will see how things go with Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson (in 3 weeks), and BA, (eventually), rookie Jordan Watkins, and the Skyy Moore/MVS/Chosen practice squad guys.

Actually just heard we moved Scantling to the 53 man roster.

With Gage swapping spots with MVS in a move to save money apparently. They’re hoping to have Gage clear waivers and both guys could be active for Seattle on Sunday.

Something to do with guaranteed money apparently.

NFL Defensive Coordinators have named Kyle Shanahan the top play caller in the NFL. Nice to hear that from people who know the game.

He is a top play caller Berger there’s no doubt about it. But not perfect and he does keep repeating the same mistakes (throwing way more than running with a 4 qtr lead) that have cost the Niners (Falcons) in the biggest games. That criticism is fair.

I hope he makes the adjustments this season as I do think they have a chance to be special by the back end of the year and could make some noise.

I’m guessing 11-6, losing a couple of games due to youthful inexperienced slash shitty kicker.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

The Atlanta SB loss was because the HC and DC decided to play 8 to 10 yds off in coverage to start the half. The moment I saw that, I knew they were probably going to lose. Yes, Shanny should have run on the last drive, but one setback was a holding call. That could happen on a running play. Another setback was an all-pro and experienced QB taking a sack. So yes, I agree he should’ve run the ball, but players can’t choke. They need to perform. also, it was the passing game that got them into FG range in the first place. And in reality, the Head Coch lost that game with his 2nd half defensive strategy. Shannys’s play calling got them enough points to win. Bottom line is, Quinn got outcoached.

Your addressing that particular game Berger, and I stand by my assertion that had the Falcons run more in the second half then Brady would not have had enough time to complete the comeback. The D strategy is a different conversation.

I’m discussing his obvious flaw of choosing to pass instead of run to close out big games with a lead.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

The biggest problem with Quinns defensive strategy is it allowed NE to limit Alantas opportunities. It was the main reason Atlanta had trouble scoring in the 2nd half. It is the same problem we had last year when we couldn’t stop the running game. I agree Kyle should use the run more in the 4-minute offense. Especially in the first Chiefs SB loss. Unfortunately, it can’t happen when the running game isn’t very functional, like the 2nd half of last year. In general, I do agree with your point.

This was my suggestion from the get go. Add a few Milli in incentives and let him hit free agency next year.

I’m a big fan of JJ but each player has his dollar value to the team, JJ is where he is for a reason. I doubt JJ will reach all his incentives this year, there will be a lot more viable WR targets available as the year progresses, depending on injuries of course.

He should get a better deal somewhere else next year if he performs well.

I’m looking forward to seeing the rookie Jordan Watkins IF Shanahan let’s him play and get targeted that is.

I was OK with letting Dre go. Great player when healthy but that’s been the rub, he’s breaking down. Too big of a risk to sign him for big dough.

Rumor has it that WR MVS was promoted to the 53 man because the Steelers were going to poach him from the 9ers PS to play with his old buddy Aaron Rodgers. Could be.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

I heard the way we signed him had to do with guaranteed money. He actually picked us over the Steelers when we signed him. It’s interesting that the steelers might’ve wanted to poach him after we signed him. I think he always knew he was destined for the 53 man roster, even if he started on the practice squad.

I like JJ, I don’t think the Niners want him back after this year, and that’s why I think he won’t reach his incentives. But if he continues to make catches someone will pay him.

Kittle had to stay in to block a lot the second half of the year, its why they brought in Luke Farrell to free Kittle up more. Hopefully they let him get more opportunities this year.
