And we have signed and released about 250 players with all the injury problems. Some of them about 4 times each.
Given that they avoided the shit-show of dragging contracts out and they got their dudes signed promptly, there’s still a shit-ton of turmoil around all the injuries and the lingering Jennings bullshit. Now the talk is he isn’t hurt, but is holding out.
The story was he was gonna sign a 2-year extension, but he got hurt. A calf injury. Which is a bit scary as calf injuries can lead to achilles tears. something that we can’t really afford. But either way, Jennings isn’t practicing with the team, and the WR corps is short-handed with the various injuries to everyone else, and the possible suspension of Demarcus Robinson.
Still baffles me we why we don’t simply sign a guy like Amari Cooper and at least be settled with a known guy who plays well.
Other than that, Guerendo’s shoulder is a pisser. He’s gonna be a key member of this offense if Shanahan grow a brain around spelling CMC in games. Especially ones where we are winning big. James Jordan, the rook, should also get reps as these games go on.
And just to piss on the fire a little more, they lost DLs Kevin Givens and Sam Okuayinonu to injury. Givens a pec injury and Okuayinonu to a groin strain.
These starters better stay healthy for at least the first 6 games. At least Rickey Pearsall has been practicing and is winning his 1:1 battles in camp. Beating press man coverage has been an issue with these WRs, so that is good news.
Yeah, overall very happy with the result. O line is still an issue depth-wise. But it looked good enough without Williams. lBurford at LT is s no-go.

Here is an example of what we could not do last year. CJ West takes on the double team and splits the block. He forced the play to re-route and a tackle was made behind the line. West isn’t much of a pass rusher, but he what we need on base downs.
I like his mindset too.

Clog up the middle and push the pocket. Keep the QB from stepping up.
I listened to most of his interview. I really liked what I heard. He did get pushed back a couple of times. That is to be expected. We need to see some flashes. We saw that. I didn’t see him lose a one on one, but I didn’t watch him on every pay. I remember seeing the same thing from DJ Jones. As a rookie, he would blow up a play and then get pushed back. I think CJ might be better than DJ. I’m also wanting to see more of Valdez. That guy bulldozed right thru a couple double teams. Kalia Davis showed some plays too.
Valdez was someone I’d never heard of but he was all over the tape. Had a great game.
The defense just simpky played faster and freer. Much more flow to the ball. Decent pas rush and solid coverage. Tackling got sloppy as the game went on, but that’s why they are 3rd stringers.
The fact we did pretty well against their #1 defense is encouraging. Don;t want to read too much into it, but all phases looked better than last year.
I remember being pissed off after the first series on defense in the preseason last year based on how we defended. It never got better.
NEw thread is up.
