The Preseason is Here ! ! ! (MEDIC!!!!)

And we have signed and released about 250 players with all the injury problems. Some of them about 4 times each.

Given that they avoided the shit-show of dragging contracts out and they got their dudes signed promptly, there’s still a shit-ton of turmoil around all the injuries and the lingering Jennings bullshit. Now the talk is he isn’t hurt, but is holding out.

The story was he was gonna sign a 2-year extension, but he got hurt. A calf injury. Which is a bit scary as calf injuries can lead to achilles tears. something that we can’t really afford. But either way, Jennings isn’t practicing with the team, and the WR corps is short-handed with the various injuries to everyone else, and the possible suspension of Demarcus Robinson.

Still baffles me we why we don’t simply sign a guy like Amari Cooper and at least be settled with a known guy who plays well.

Other than that, Guerendo’s shoulder is a pisser. He’s gonna be a key member of this offense if Shanahan grow a brain around spelling CMC in games. Especially ones where we are winning big. James Jordan, the rook, should also get reps as these games go on.

And just to piss on the fire a little more, they lost DLs Kevin Givens and Sam Okuayinonu to injury. Givens a pec injury and Okuayinonu to a groin strain.

These starters better stay healthy for at least the first 6 games. At least Rickey Pearsall has been practicing and is winning his 1:1 battles in camp. Beating press man coverage has been an issue with these WRs, so that is good news.

Wow. Pressure is night and day compared to last year.

And Denver is using their starters on the line.

Freaking Jones will always show you the interceptions, just a terrible throw Watkins had no chance to catch, not so for the DB who broke easily for the pick. Lol on Ryan on the call that he could of helped out Jones more, their was no way on that shit throw..

Liking the D. Much better schemes even if the players are missing tackles.

The backup QBs? Heh heh! Mordecai looks like a 3rd stringer. There wasn’t a 49er within 10 yards of that throw.

Oh, that’s Bradley at QB? Who the fuck is that? Our line looks terrible.

If Burford is forced to play LT, we are in deep shit.

  5. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Yeah Burford wasn’t a good guard, he missed the tackle that cost the Niners the last SB and he looks worse as a tackle.

  6. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Bradley has an arm but doesn’t know the offense yet, not sure its a fair assessment of him after just 10 days on the team.

I also thought the Mac Jones INT was because the receiver over ran the route but I’m not 100% on that.

  7. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Let’s hope the Niners don’t need to use their 3rd string QB whichever guy it ends up being.

Mac Jones looked like he understands the scheme and performed well, encouraging.

Watching Bradley and Mordecai was torture. Mordy patted the ball right out of his own hands for a fumble.

I saw some things that I liked. It looks like we have some DBs who can cover. Siegle looked fantastic. Chase looked good as well as Luter. CJ West was a beast on most plays. He got pushed back a couple of times by double teams, but he beat some doubles, also. Considering he was going against Denver’s ones, I thought he was really good. The LB Bethune looked good too. Who is the DL Valdez? He flashed some plays. I also thought the RB Tayler looked good.

I saw a lot of what I wanted to see. Overall, I was happy. Especially happy to see how our 2s played vs Denver’s 1s.

    Can’t complain about our B-teamers.

Saw plenty of depth on the D-line and Secondary.

Pass pro not too impressive but, run game looked solid with Kiner.

Won’t hold my breath beyond QB2. They sucked.

First preseason game and all, nothing to bitch about. Just need to get healthy and stay that way.

Gotta say I like the kickoff change too. Forced returns is getting back to football.

Our ST units looked way more prepared and organized too. Nice to see.

Yeah, overall very happy with the result. O line is still an issue depth-wise. But it looked good enough without Williams. lBurford at LT is s no-go.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

Here is an example of what we could not do last year. CJ West takes on the double team and splits the block. He forced the play to re-route and a tackle was made behind the line. West isn’t much of a pass rusher, but he what we need on base downs.

  12. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

    I like his mindset too.

Clog up the middle and push the pocket. Keep the QB from stepping up.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

I listened to most of his interview. I really liked what I heard. He did get pushed back a couple of times. That is to be expected. We need to see some flashes. We saw that. I didn’t see him lose a one on one, but I didn’t watch him on every pay. I remember seeing the same thing from DJ Jones. As a rookie, he would blow up a play and then get pushed back. I think CJ might be better than DJ. I’m also wanting to see more of Valdez. That guy bulldozed right thru a couple double teams. Kalia Davis showed some plays too.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Valdez was someone I’d never heard of but he was all over the tape. Had a great game.

The defense just simpky played faster and freer. Much more flow to the ball. Decent pas rush and solid coverage. Tackling got sloppy as the game went on, but that’s why they are 3rd stringers.

The fact we did pretty well against their #1 defense is encouraging. Don;t want to read too much into it, but all phases looked better than last year.

I remember being pissed off after the first series on defense in the preseason last year based on how we defended. It never got better.
