The Rumor Mill Grinds Away Like Pepper Corns

Back when I was in high school we used to drive to Tahoe to go skiing. Halfway up I-80 was the Rumor Mill. A great place to stop, take a piss, and refill the ice cooler to keep those roadies fresh and cold.

Anyhow, the word is we are fishing for Terry McLaurin. Someone who my son desperately wanted us to draft, but alas it was not to be and we picked Jalen Hurd. Yeah, the guy who played zero downs in his illustrious NFL career.

No idea what he would cost, but it wouldn’t be cheap. But due to our fire sale eaelier this season, we have the third most cap space in the NFL.

The dude is productive as hell and hasn’t missed a game in 4 seasons, so sure, why the hell not?

Other than that, 2 weeks till camp!

McLaurin is still a great wr. But it would break the bank to get him. I still want McCaffrey. I think he’s gonna have a break out year and will be the #2 wr. We drafted Puni instead and I am glad we did.

We might be able to get him for a one-year rental fairly cheap.

He’s on the last year of his deal, and he can simply walk after the season.

See what BA does and take it from there. Keep one of the 2 and get rid of the other.

Holding out hope that Pearsall can be what they think, but I’m not sold on that yet.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Yeah he has to show something this year and be able to at least stay on the field without missing too much time. He just looks a little fragile to me.

49ers may already have Jake Brendel’s long-term replacement on roster https://ninernoise.com/49ers-already-have-jake-brendel-long-term-replacement-roster

Here’s the thing with Brendel. He makes the defensive protection and scheme calls not Purdy or any other Shanahan QB.

Thats why they value him so highly, he is ellite at seeing the defense and diagnosing what’s coming.

Unfortunately, he is barely average in the physical skills department IMO, which is what us fans base our opinion of him on.

All that said I have a higher opinion of the O line than most that I read here but for me Center is the weak link.

They’ve been fairly successful finding under the radar guys so I guess they can pin their hopes on Hennessey.

O line still worries the shit out of me tho. Hate having to rely on Purdy running for his life to make plays.

We are gonna run a lot but as has been shown over the past, esp in the biggest games, when we are backed into a corner and forced to pass, our protections break down.

    Meanwhile, in Antioch . . .

Chargers running back Najee Harris sustained an eye injury after a fireworks mishap at a July Fourth event, his agent Doug Hendrickson told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday. Hendrickson said the injury was “superficial” and that Harris is expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.

Hendrickson said the “mishap resulted to injuries to several attendees.” One person was hospitalized after he lost fingers in the accident in Antioch, California, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing police.

Ain’t having fun till you blow your fingers off.

Well so much for the drama free off season. Juaun Jennings reportedly wants a new deal or to be traded. Adam Schefter reports it’s unlikely he doesn’t show up for training camp although he doesn’t say how he knows that.

Jennings signed a 2 year deal before the start of last season at $7.5 mil per year and he did outplay that contract largely because of injuries to other skill players.

I am a big fan of Jennings and I understand where he is coming from because with Pearsall probably getting more of the ball, a healthy CMC definately getting more of the ball as well as other signings/rookies vying for a slice of the pie and even a possibility of BA returning to his prior form (unlikely) I doubt Jennings gets to another 1,000 yd season this year so he wants to leverage last years big numbers.

Having said that, I’m not a believer that you get to redo a contract every year just because you had a good year. If I’m the Niners I might add some incentives money based on productivity but that’s about it.

  12. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Jennings caught 77 passes and almost 1k yards last year. Very solid numbers, he also would of been the SB MVP if the Niners had beaten KC.

As I said, I’m a big fan, but if the Niners win 12 games this year I doubt JJ catches that amount of balls or has that many yds.

JJ is not a #1 receiver and might not be a #2. He is a really good possession receiver. I understand he is the 39th highest paid receiver in the NFL currently. 32 teams pay their #1 guy so it means JJ is the 5th highest #2 WR in the NFL. I do think there is room to add something to this season’s money to sweeten the pot but doing a 3 year $15m per season type of deal doesn’t make much sense to me.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Oh, hJJ’s a solid 2, but what the actual fuck? Let’s wait till the week before camp starts to air the bullshit? At least talk to people inside the building before making demands.

Fuck it, give him a bump.

They have a ton of cap space and I’m not sold on Persall or that BA will be right till week 10.

I’m guessing he has been talking for a while and the team is resisting. Drew Rosenhaus is his agent, he knows when to apply pressure being the asshole he is.

Larry Krueger is big on Neyor, mostly based on his measurables which are considerable. His problem making this team is he is raw and Shannahan doesn’t trust rookies and especially raw rookies. They only compare Neyor and JJ because of his size. Neyor is way faster than JJ.

If Neyor has a big TC and pre-season he has a chance but my guess is even if he does well they will try to put him on the PS and other teams more willing to give a rookie WR a chance will steal him.

Watkins sounds much more viable, I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Rookie camp kicks off today, let the evaluations begin!

QB Curtis Rourke will probably go on the NFI today. He’s an interesting prospect, if he pans out he will be a good trade candidate down the road unless disaster strikes and they keep him.

If he shows nothing it was a low risk proposition but he has a chance and was playing really well in 2024 despite a serious knee injury. Tough kid.

Where are we with the 2nd round draft pick Collins injury and contract signing? Shit gets real now, he can’t afford to miss TC, every day matters especially as a rookie.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Well Kurtis Rourke is going on the non football injury list by 49ers.He’s still recovering from his ACL injury, his season is done.Hey 7th rd pick like Purdy who worked out ok lol 😆 but maybe another player could of been the better pick??
      QB’s now Starter Purdy,Backup Jones, and 6 finger Mordeci 3rd I assume?

Yeah 12th this whole Collins situation sucks! I need to know more on his calf injury, and this signing situation( can’t participate with out a contract signed right?)where now all these 2nd rd picks trying to cash in big after 2players got guaranteed deals that’s Fucking up every teams right now
