A Successful Draft – And the UDFAs

For once I was pretty much on board with a 49ers draft. There were no weird punter/kicker signings way too high. There was no rando RB taken in the 3rd round, and there was no WR drafted way too high. They really focussed on the defensive line, and defense in general. A major need after seeing what happened in the 2023 playoffs, and the entire 2024 season.

My only druther is they didn’t do anything for the O line.

Those 7th round picks seemed odd, but except for our franchise QB, what do you expect in the 7th round? Rubber biscuits?

The UDFA class is always interesting. Granted, about the only one I ever thought would stick was Jordan Mason, and he sure was a solid guy. Gone, of course, but his replacement will be Corey Kliner.

  • LB Stone Blanton, Mississippi State
  • RB Corey Kiner, Cincinnati
  • OL Drew Moss, Colorado
  • WR Isaiah Neyor, Nebraska
  • CB Jakob Robinson, BYU
  • DL Sebastian Valdez, Washington

Of course this is all speculation, but this looks like a solid group. Then again, they supposedly hit the ball out of the park their first draft in 2017.

Yeah, I enjoyed ths draft also. I was kind of surprised just how much time and energy I spent on this one. So glad we went defensive. If I had to compare last years to any other year it would be 79. And who knows maybe we struck out with this one. But I’m not feeling that.

Sigle makes more sense now that Malik is hurt. Wasn’t too impressed with Stout and Martin but we’ll see.

Neyor has size and good metrics too, hope he pans out.

Bergen? Didn’t cost much and we need a PR guy.

Love the beef on the Dline. We needed it.

I read a good write up on Neyor can’t remember where, and if he can stay healthy we need a wr like him. Niner drafts are rarely flashy and a lot of them don’t turn out but like last years the expurts didn’t think we picked to well. But it turned out to be pretty good.

From my first post I meant the 79 defense who couldn’t stop anything. I am not a stat hound but I bet we gave up just as many 1st downs on 3rd downs as they did.

Gotta admit, I enjoy me some Funk 😁

Many a HS weekend spent at the Rutgers Frat house parties as minors where the Funk and booze was plentiful.

And as history would wake me up years later, I had to be the Dad dropping off my daughter’s at the occasional Rutgers Frat house parties.

Going back the following morning to retrieve them was always on a wing and a prayer.

Thankfully I didn’t have to go beyond the car service. Don’t ask. Don’t tell.

Im sure i told you this. My first album purchase with my own hard-earned miney was Quadrophenia.

The second was Fire by the Ohio Players. Dug the funk big time growing up. Tower of Power I saw a bunch of times.

Not sure if i told this story but my good friend Kevin, who passed away three years ago, was a musician and producer. He sang with Montrose for a few years and was hired and fired a few times. But he also produced one of Jack Bruce’s solo albums. One of which he did with Bernie Worrell. I was able to watch some of the sessions.

This was right after Bernie Worrell had toured with Talking Heads, and, while Jack Bruce didn’t say anything more the ‘hey’ and ‘get out of my way’ I was able to talk to Bernie for a little bit. He said he’d always be a P-Funk all star, but he said those Stop Making Sense shows were just insane. Said it was just a blast. The crowds, the energy, all of it was off the charts.

kittle signed a 4 year deal, great news.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

That is great news. Now get Purdy done not only because we have to but because I am so sick of the media talking out their colledtive asses.
