As far as drafts go, this one was all over the map according to the wonks. But like I always say, fuck the wonks. I like the pick. Williams is an edge-setting DE, and that is something this team needs. Williams is young, a bit raw, but very athletic and looks to grow and learn from the get-go. I like the pick as it wasn’t a reach and it fills a big need. For once they went the way I thought they should.
Banks and Membou were both taken, so that made our pick all the more easy. The coulda had a more polished guy like Kenneth Grant, but there are still a lot of DT available at 43. TJ Sanders springs to mind. Would love to get him.
Surprises? Jax throwing the kitchen sink at Cleveland to get Travis Hunter. Cleve now will get Mason Graham and (100% lock) Shadeur Sanders and a boatload of picks. I think Cleveland wins that deal hands-down. Jax is Jax.
Also a bit surprising is the New York Giants trading up to get Jaxon Dart. Sanders fell out of the 1st round, reminiscent of the draft snubbing of Aaron Rodgers all those years ago, but hey, it would be a trip to see Sanders go to the Raiders if Cleve doesn’t take him with their 33rd or 36th pick. I hope he goes to Oakland, uh Vegas. They’d be fun as shit with Jeanty, Sanders, and Bowers.
Also a bit stunning is the two Super Bowl foes a) made a trade, and b) got huge bang for their bucks with their picks. The Iggles traded up one slot to get the baddest LB in the group, Jihaad Campbell, and KC filled a position of need, getting OT Josh Simmons. Simmons is a rick coming off patellar tendon surgery, but if he works out, he’s a steal.
Day 2 approaches. Scourton’s off my board since we got Williams. TJ is who I’d like. Not many OTs anymore, but I wonder if we may take a flyer on a guy like LB Carson Schwesinger. Lots of CBs available as well, including (!) Will Johnson, Trey Amos, Shavon Revel, Azareye’h Thomas, and Benjamin Morrison.
The good news on Williams is he gutted out a high ankle sprain through last season and played at a high level.
As Bergs noted in the POTD, he had his best game after getting rest and playing Texas in the SEC championship game, getting 2 sacks.
Fucking great.
Anything with Lemmy is fucking great.
https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/mock-draft-second-round-darius-alexander/1845284/
Yesterday there was a run on a small class of OT and IOL really making it difficult to get any but iffy developmental types. The above 2nd Rd mock has Ersery gone at #34 and #43 Darius Alexander 3-tech DT.
IMO we must trade up the 2nd and grab Alexander no matter what. The trenches look finished and it’s developing the B and C team candidates for both lines. Why the fuck did we not trade up to end of 1st and get Ersery.
We got lucky with their stupid wait game and got the last of the iol studs with puni.
There is a Charles Grant IOL out there still that maybe we salvage the OL draft disaster.
I’d have Ersery on my radar plus a thumbs up on this list…
https://www.ninersnation.com/2025/4/25/24416385/49ers-best-players-available-2025-nfl-draft-second-third-round
Houston will take Ersery at #34. Trade up to #33 and call CLE and make a deal. Maybe a bidding war. How much worse is Charles Grant than Ersery?
With the run on OT the only guy left is Ersery who like Tom mentioned will be gone unless they move up( doubtful) and both DT Sanders&Alexander would be great choices. But I’m going CB Trey Amos to complete a solid secondary he’s a beast. Can play man coverage are zone move Lenior to nickel/ slot.Though I also love Safety Nick Emmanowori (sp)who you could move all over the secondary and even a hybrid LB as well !! He’s 6’3 227 and is combines we’re OFF THE CHARTS.
Which is why I would take a chance on Grant if he gets to RD 3. Belton from NC State is also on my radar.
Hoping to snag this guy too.

On my radar also –

2000-2006 Former SF 49er LB Julian Peterson to make the pick selections calls tonight!
Make us proud with some great players my man!!
34..LB Schwesinger off the board from Browns
35..WR Jayden Higgins off the board from Texans
36..Safety Nick Emmawori fuck you Seattle!!!
Sanders completely stuck in Star Trek transport machine lol…
So it the D with the 2nd round or Oline
Alfred Collin’s DT
Good pick.
Well the D is almost set
FAT MAN IN THE MIDDLE!
Yeh BOYYYYYY 😁
Let’s hope he doesn’t join Evan Anderson in the hangar! Collins is even bigger than Anderson, fat man in the middle indeed!
Brick shit house duo is fine with me 12th. Keep Fred & Co clean.
Yeah NJ..Alfred Collins DT 6’6 332 lbs of Beef!!!Easily can handle the John Candy 96 OUNCER Steak 🥩 with the fat!!
Damn straight AK.
Vita Vea-esque double team eater.
We need two more on the d-line, at least one LB, a safety, and a cb.
I love your attitude mister!
Could of taken OT Ersery are CB Trey Amos but Collins in the middle of the line ain’t bad either!
We have so many needs. But defense was the biggest one.
Hopefully he can breakdown the pocket and force the QB out so Bosh can get to the QB
Collins was who I wanted when we didn’t get Kenneth Grant. So far, I’m happy with this draft. I think we go CB and OL in the next round.
Berger..PFSN..Rated Alfred Collins #6 just after #5 Grant and ahead of TJ Sanders at 10 and Alexander at 8th..
They say he’s just a massive load to move and can take on 2 gaps 10 inch hands with lever length! Should make it easier for Bosa&Wlliams to get and Annihilate a QB!!
Yep! He’ll struggle some in the 1st year but he will be a starter by yr 2. He needs to work on his body tone.
I still want the florida 400+ DLine guy
Think we go CB here
Could be a long shot but wtf? I’m predicting Center Jared Wilson from Georgia at 75 to replace Brendel.6’3 305 ran a 4.84 forty which is insane..
we got a LB with a bad knee. Nick Martin
I’d like to know more about Martin’s knee. He had 140 tackles in 2023. That is awesome. If he is going to 100% for pre-season, I’m happy with this pick.
I’m with you Berger ,Martin was 1st team in2023 with those 140 tackles and 6 picks!
Yeah he blew out his knee in week 5 still had 47 tackles and a pick.
Then makes it back to the combines and runs a 4.53 forty,Vertical 38” and a 10.3 long jump with 26 bench presses 225 tops among all LB! How bad could the knee be doing that?
I’m happy to see them pick for need first instead of best player available which is their usual MO.
So far they have addressed the most serious team deficiencies. I hope they go CB next.
The LB Martin was off the charts in 2023 before the knee injury, I read he’s fast and good against mobile QB’s, something the 9ers have been missing for years.
Fingers crossed he turns out to be healthy.
Will the Browns take QB Sanders next ?!?
I feel like the 3rd round is where he actually was supposed to go.
Browns took a QB, just not Sanders.
He’s going to have a chip on his shoulder the size of Rhode Island.
Raiders have 2 picks coming up, I can’t see them not taking him.
Rumblings that he wasn’t the sharpest of interviews for what that’s worth.
I had Dart and Shough as better prospects myself and both got selected in good order. Don’t think too many GMs saw him as starting material and we’re nearing the end of RD 3. Milroe is probably less accurate and Seattle took him.
Go figure.
And there goes Gabriel to Cleveland.
If the Raiders don’t take him, should the 9ers?
Thankfully it’s not Shanahan making the moves I believe it’s Saleh in Lynch’s earpiece in the war room all night..100th pick coming up Shanahan is squirming for his RB are WR? But will Saleh throw him a bone 🍖 and go offense?
I wanted that Grant kid that went right before us at 99.
well, there’s the CB. So t j is anything about the LB we got
Stout in RD 3 seems like a total reach. Small school product projected in RD 6/7.
Total WTF pick IMO. 5’8″ to boot.
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/upton-stout/32005354-4f72-8088-9be0-a1f143d4fbc7
A bit of a head scratcher.
5’8″? His vertical better be off the charts!
Hey, NJ, you got your fat man!!!!! Love the Collins pick.
Happy for sure Chuck. Big fukn immovable objects take pressure off the LBs and help the DEs.
Gotta wonder if Grant going right in front of us left Lynch flat footed?
I can’t figure where the fuck Upton Stout got a single word of Draft praise from the football meca of Western KY.
Sure hope he turns out to be a Purdy-like surprise dejour.
Skattebo would have made more sense to me even if Shanny was zip tied and ball gagged in a locker for RD 3.
“FUCK! Pete just took Grant John. Now what?Uhh..Jed? Robert? Let Shanny out?”
STOUT! GENIUS IDEA JED!
Love the first 2.
Not feeling the next 2. Stout is gonna be our slot CB.
Martin our weak side LB.
Stout is another Ward in the making. He’s perfect for the slot. The only problem will be his agresiveness and like all out DB’s prone to penalties. I think I like this pick a lot.
our are
If Martin’s knee is ok then he has the same type of play as did Greenlaw it just might take a while for it to show in the pro game just like Greenlaw’s did. But the knee is still a big if to me.
If these first 4 picks take then we just might have enough to make our defense much better since the backups we had last year will have more playing time in our system. I am glad the first 4 picks were defense. It just shows the FO saw what everyone else did.
Happy Birthday Chuck, just saw it on the flap. Happy to be apart of the 49ers forever site. It’s an important site and I beleive that there are those in the Niners org. that pass through regularly.
Happy Birthday Chuck. I’m one of several April babies in my family also. As my Dad was quick to say, April babies were are result of July vacations 😁
Given my surprise last night about the selection of Stout, I guess the suggestion is a need for the next K’waun. Let’s hope he fills the role.
https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/upton-stout-nickel-cornerback-2025-draft/1845642/
Yeah, Kwaun is a much better comparison than Ward. And I was actually thinking Kwaun but I got the names confused.
I am an April 1st baby
Happy Birthday Unca. Time to drink a stout, like maybe a Guinness.
Shanalynch made their statement. 3-tech DT, LG , C are on the roster now. Hope like hell TW can do 17 games.
Nick Martin’s knee is fine, MCL with no surgery.
I wanted Kenneth Grant for our first pick. After much video review, I’m very happy with Mykel Williams. When Grant was gone, I wanted Tyliek Williams or Alfred Collins with our next pick. Williams was taken and we got Collins. So far, so good.
Next was Nick Martin the LB. Didn’t know anything about him. After reading up, an Oklahoma newspaper said they started losing when he had his knee injury. They never won without him. Sounds like Greenlaw in the Super Bowl. They said that QBs couldn’t run with him on the field. Again, sounds like Greenlaw. They also said he had 140 tackles in 2023. That made me pause. That is a lot of tackles. Then AK let me know about his combine, which tells me his knee should be OK. I love this pick.
We’ve struggled at the nickel recently. Maybe this Stout will be that. I was already bummed when Grant went at 99, a 5-8 CB didn’t help with my attitude, but we will see. One thing I’ve noticed with Lynch, he has done a great job at picking DBs in the middle rounds.
there are still a whole lot of good players left. I think today is my favorite draft day. I hope we can pick up the sac state center Slater. There is still a lot of good defense out there too.
Good chance we see a trade or two today.
Happy Birthday Chuck 🍻🎉
I’m really getting excited about this draft so far, totally feeling much needed Defensive Juice! LB Nick Martin was OSU Captain the last 2 years the whole organization has nothing but praise for his clubhouse and leadership! This team also had a good LB in Danny Stutman (sp) who I thought was rated higher, but is more of a one trick pony and can’t cover receivers out of the back field well supposedly. Martin can..4.53 speed 37 Vertical,26 bench press at 225 and loves to HIT with high energy like this next guy..
Happy birthday Chuck
CB ..Upton Stout Western Kentucky
Yeah the knock on him will be his height 5’8 181 lbs but look what this frame did at the combines…4.44 forty ,Vertical Jump 37.5,1.51 10 yard split,10.8 Broad jump but the kicker is he Topped all DB’s at the combine with 21 bench reps at 225.. So yeah he puts the work in on his body, and he’s a seek heating middle like Martin! Even told Lynch on the phone “I’m pissed for greatness” and kept repeating “Let’s GO,Let’s GO ..Lynch said it was the best call he’s ever made hands down!!
Thanks, guys. Been fun hanging here with y’all over the years. Saw my first post was Sept 8, 2011!!!
Saw the 140 tackles for Martin. That gives me hope. Stout has a great name anyway. Sounds like a hitter.
we needed that trade or two yesterday. We need quality starters. Are totally unprepared to handle TW out of game.
Relying on backups Bartch, Zakelj, Hennessy to cover the intentionally bottom-bitched Oline to prevent our soon $50+ million franchise QB from being seriously injured. The last of the publicly mentioned OT worth a chance was gone at #99, Charles Grant.
We traded up for noone. 3-tech DT Darius Alexander and LT to be Grant were badly needed.
How come Shanalynch still have a job. Where is Jed York. Dream on but a lot of day 3 are backups. Hopefully we got three quality week 1 starters out of this draft.
Jesus. Your guy didn’t get picked so the sky is falling.
New thread is up.
I’m looking at OT/Guard Marcus Mbow Purdue 6’5 300 lib could move right into LG but also Tackle fill in.
CJ West
I had a feeling we weren’t done on the Dline.
Are they only going to pick defense players?
I can’t image they think their Oline is set. That would be foolish
300 lbs and you expect him to anchor
He is a project, listed at 316lbs. They will probably beef him up.
At this point very few will be able to step right in and play especially on the Oline. Hopefully they have their players in line.
At least we are in the 5th rd and hopefully we can find another gem.
So this draft was all about the D, according to Niners Nation, Kyle/Lynch have never made the Oline a priority in the draft. I hope Brock is not running for his life on 3rd and long
Walsh drafted undersized linemen that could pass/run block. Granted players have gotten bigger and faster but you’re going to tell me you can find players who can do both. Oh that’s right we are talking about the Niners that prefer to run and only pass when necessary. So they look only for players that can run block. This has been the case way before Kyle/Lynch era. Think Alex Smith. Good strategy!!
