Word from Mike Silver (one of the scribes who is usually sopt-on) is that the 49ers are gonna play hardball with Brock Purdy. In other words their dithering around for the last 3 seasons with the likes of Bosa, Deebo, and Aiyuk didn’t teach them a fucking thing. And they are gonna piss off the nice guy Purdy.
Say what you will about the $45 mill starting offer, but it is very low. Thing is, the 49er have no control over what other front offices have done to sign their QBs. But they signed their QBs. Dak ain’t worth $60 mill per, but Purdy has 2 more playoff wins in SIX less seasons. Trevor Lawrence isn’t worth $57 million, but Brock has 3 more playoff wins in one less season.
In other words, the 49ers cannot reset the market down to sign Purdy. Sorry, but they have to bite the bullet and sign him to something around $55 mill. No ifs, ands, or buts. Regardless of last season’s debacle, one that was partly on Purdy, but more importantly on our awful defense, terrible pass protection, sloppy special teams, and shit red zone offense, they have ZERO choice other than to pony up or royally piss him off by franchising him for a couple seasons or trading him. .
Purdy is 25. Dak got his deal at 31.
Hopefully this is nothing but dead-time preseason hype, but with these guys, you never know. They very well once again could be their own worst enemy.

Word is that Dak is going to restructure which makes sense. Purdy can structure a back loaded deal to keep the Cap pliable enough to get some FA clearance too. I think $50M average could be reasonable.
Might find several restructuring moves coming with Fred and Nick to get Kittle paid as well?

The way I see is if we can keep Purdy upright then we probably have a shot in every game we play. He does have to play better than last year though. As far as what he is really worth I don’t know I guess that’s for the future to decide. Don’t know how this year is gonna turn out it since we are gonna lose quite a few players. But what I do know is the the media is full of it and I find it hard to believe much of anything.

If I’m Purdy why would I settle for anything under $55 mill?
He has a better playoff record than 9 of the top 10 guys. And we all saw last year. Yeah, Purdy struggled. But the defense, special teams, and pass pro were much bigger issues.
Backload it, sideload it. Defer it. Whatever. Pay him.

Seattle must have really wanted to get rid of Metcalf if they traded him to the fucking Rams. The Rams definitely going for it all this year and it does make sense for them since Puka really didn’t do shit last year. Right now I would say they are the best bet to take the division. Fuck em.
I guess we’ll see what Seattle’s strategy is when/if they sign a FA QB. Seattle is in our boat with a lot of old bad deals.
