Super Bowl hangover
Front office shenanigans with BA and Trent Williams
The injury problem
The drafting of Ricky Pearsall
The shooting of Ricky Pearsall
The ultra-soft defense (#1 issue)
Repeated special teams disasters (#2 on the issue list)
Play calling
Red zone play calling
Shanny’s dependence on the stars
Shanny hoping CMC would save the season as he rode him into the ground
The inability of Shanahan to spell his RBs
Shanny’s force-feeding of Deebo to the detriment of the rest of the team
Shanny forgetting about Kittle for too many games
Shanny playing it safe on 4th down
Illegal formation penalties
False start penalties
Penalties in general (13-1 in yesterday’s game!)
The pisser to me in this list is the same fucking problems were all readily apparent yesterday.
Week 18!
And the team did NOTHING about these recurring problems.
The front office didn’t shit-can Brian Schneider after week 4
The coaching staff didn’t tell Nick Sorensen to change his defensive style
The penalty situation never changed
The play calling didn’t change enough
The red zone offense didn’t improve
The biggest pisser to me was the fact that if the 49ers had beaten the Rams, they were prepared to sell off the team. They had Kooper Kupp on the trading block, and had they gone 0-5, they likely would have pulled the trigger. But no, we had to give up the fake punt that destroyed the entire season and the Rams end up winning the division.
They blew all 3 of the divisional games that would have won them the division.
They have the players
They need a better coaching staff
This harkens back to the Chip Kelly/Jimmy Farts-a-lot lost seasons where the 49ers were a talented team, but severely rudderless. Harbs came in and got the guys on the beam and they were a playoff team.
Funnily enough, Harbaugh took a talented but rudderless team in San Diego and poof! They are a playoff team now.
I really wish they’d think about getting rid of Shanahan. Sure, it might end up like Andy Reid, but hey, Philly won their Super Bowl 2 years before Reid and the Chiefs did.
Should’ve added O-line and D-line. They need a Bryant Young, in the middle, they also need stronger o-line guys, stats show the o-line not that bad. The hell with stats, they need to be prepared for Trent W to be gone. Starting to become injury prone?
There were times this year when we were totally unwatchable. They got to mix it up somehow and get back to 49er football. I will be paying attention this off-season and I already know I will hate the media more than I usually do. Just like I am already sick of the national baseball writers that keep putting articles out that sound like we have signed players that we haven’t even talked to yet.
lol. it kills me to listen to folks talk about the 49ers as if most of the problems they have had this season are not self- inflicted.
“Injuries are never an excuse, but injuries.”
They act like we are a top-tier defense when in reality we are terrible at stopping 3rd downs, and are an absolute train-wreck in the 4th quarter.
Need a guy like Vita Vea in TB.
A brick shit house that requires a lot of attention and gets to the QB without compromising the ability to stop the run. We absolutely sucked at stopping the run this year.
Been watching all day for something like this from the Bay area…

Yup. We will see. Schneider should be on the bricks already.
Niners Wire states “Purdy Implies He Will Hold Out Without a Contract”
Crack up the bullshit generator.
https://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2025/01/06/brock-purdy-implies-hell-hold-out-without-new-contract-from-49ers/
It’s been tried and proven successful hasn’t it?
Franchise tag will solve that effort if push comes to shove.
Wild Card QB matchup anthem in Philly this weekend?
‘Bout fukn time…

A step in the right direction. Not sure I trust Shanny to pick the new one though. I am getting tired of his act.
One of Kyle’s strengths and failings is his loyalty to individuals. ST has sucked and progressively deteriorated under Schneider.
There is an argument to say it’s better to stay the course and work to improve the situation, “better the devil you know”.
There is also the counter argument that even mid season, once it’s clearly not improving, that firing a coach both makes an opportunity for improvement and sends a message to players and coaches alike that if you are not up to par then you are gone.
Kyle doesn’t seem to have that edge to him and I might be wrong but it looks to me like the players and coaches are too “comfortable”.
Football is simply about winning and I fail to see any argument that justified keeping Schneider past game 6, we had all seen enough to know it was not improving and it did cost some wins.
One more damning thing was that Schneider lobbied hard to take Moody in the 3rd round.
And the restoration efforts begin..

Belichick talking about the important basic details of wet weather football he learned from Bill Parcells:
https://www.facebook.com/reel/458159624003538/?mibextid=9drbnH
Parcells was also really big on having excellent ST play, he considered it equal to D and O, this is something Kyle should pay proper attention to, field position isn’t something his O scheme needs to overcome, it’s something his scheme needs to see as integral.
I’ve read and heard opinions regarding Parcells wanting emphasis on players who could be ST specific.
Belichick inherently grasped that philosophy as well. Treating ST units as a weapons group.
Schneider ascended through those ranks and was successful in Seattle.
It appears that Shanny prefers to use starters in dual roles and neglects specialist personnel to provide a Coach with the ability to mold his own unit.
Again, Shanny has fingerprints on things which impact performance.
Parcells had a cliche of sorts about ‘buying the groceries ‘ which basically suggests that the personnel being supplied to the ST unit doesn’t exist or isn’t important.
Walsh was kinda notorious for saying he didn’t want his games to come down to his kicker. Which is why he was balls-to-the-wall for 60 minutes every game.
That being said, he didn’t simply ignore his ST units. Fat Ray was a decent enough kicker, and his coverage units were solid enough.
The fact that Shanny didn’t pull the plug on Schneider by October was simply ludicrous.
And I’m convinced Bill Belichick deked Shanahan into signing Moody because Belichick said he was going to draft Moody early in the 4th round.
Waiting for the shoe to drop with Sorensen. If Shanahan sticks with him, I’ll be really pissed.
Watching teams Minnesota and Tampa Bay show all kinds of different looks, disguise coverages, and generally play an aggressive defense while we run our prevent defense 95% of the time pissed me off from day 1.
I think Shanny will do what he has to so to deflect blame from himself it’s sorta human nature to a degree. I don’t see Sorensen being here at least as DC.

And what the actual fuck did Brandon Staley do? I thught is was a good hire as it might get Shanny out of his supreme conservativeness. At least a little. But he didn’t seem to do or say anything all year.
I want that job. No visibility, no accountability, collect that fat check.
I was wondering the same thing he kept his name out of everything.
I did some research months back to understand how dumbass Jerruh got K Brandon Aubrey on the cheap and we spent a 3rd on Jake the Moody K.
I recall seeing his connection to and through the USFL. Seems he polished his craft with a former college K Brian Egan. What (and how) the fuck did Jerruh find a weapon while our brain trusts got a head case?
I’ve come to the conclusion that Shanny plays the mad scientist with offensive personnel and likely defers to Lynch on defense. Until they find some common ground regarding need for a return specialist and get away from using starters in the role, no coaching changes will matter.
They can afford to waste a later RD pick or UDFA signing on a shifty specialist IMO. Hope they’ve learned a lesson this year.
Lynch should find out about enrolling Shakey Jake pronto.

Well let the coaching rebuild begin.ST loser Brian Schneider is fired, and hopefully followed by both DC Puppet team of Sorenson&Staley sooner then later!!
I really would like Robert Saleh back adding fire back to a defense that lacked leadership and add Jeff Ulbrich as well,a former 49er player( 1st team he played for)with plenty of Bay Area roots, this Defense would immediately improve!
Looks like Baalke might have Saleh on the short list?

Maiocco video report, kinda long if you can spare the time.
And in SF Giants news . . . .
Justin Verlander? Didn’t we beat him in the playoffs 13 years ago?
I was hoping we would go in another direction but I guess for 1 year they can kick some tires.
Probably just buying themselves an extra year to try and figure out if any of the young pitchers will be any good going forward. Verlander is probably still better than the likes of Mason Black, Tristen Beck, Keaton Winn, and Jordan Hicks, which improves the rotation slightly, but they do need to see what these kids got. Hopefully at least one of ’em amounts to something.
I have more hope for Birdsong than Dirty Harry.
Verlander? Sure, why not? At least we KNOW it’s simply a one-year deal.
And yeah, see what we got.
Clipped from a NN piece, like we need to be reminded…
Despite multiple deep playoff runs, this will be the sixth time during the Kyle Shanahan-John Lynch tenure that they’ve selected within the top 15. The hit rate for the Niners picking in the top half of the draft has left plenty to be desired, as Nick Bosa is the only player to hang their hat on.
Titans whacked GM Ran Carthon. Another former 9er bites the dust while Baalke survived.
Waiting to see if he paves the way for Saleh now, though I think Pedersen was the scapegoat for a diminished roster thanks to Trent and TLawrence declining.
The mad world of the NFL.
I wouldn’t give Baalky the time of day. My guess is he is one of the main reasons for the decline. I haven’t paid any attention for awhile but I wonder if he’s still picking the walking wounded.
Bears would be smart to get Pedersen alongside Caleb IMO.
Sorensen out.
huzzah
Ward might not make it back to football, death of his daughter really affected him

Klay Kubiac officially becomes the 9ers OC.
Brandon Staley to interview for the DC position 2nd year in a row.
Deebo is staying.
Javon Hargrave is out, at least initially, they will see what the market offers him.

Reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic?
WTF? Like telling the difference between the left sock and right sock in the laundry basket.
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb please switch chairs. 🤬
You get a new title and… you get a new title and… you get a new title.
Kyle still does everything.
New rules. Kyle gets put into a straight jacket in RD3.
Give Ulbrich a call for shit sake. He’s a legacy icon and plenty capable.
What pissed me off was Kyle sticking with Schneider ALL season. I really think he needed to cut bait around game 6, or even at the bye giving him time to shuffle the coaching pack. Send the message and maybe change the ST outcomes for the better, they certainly couldn’t have gotten worse.
They can’t be serious about keeping Sorenson around as a ST coach and same with Staley both showed how overmatched they were last year!
Ulbrich& Saleh are the 2 obvious top choices with plenty of ties and experience to add! I’m not in with Colts DC Archie Bradley who’s defense was terrible among the worst in the league and plenty of internal and ego issues among players didn’t help..
The promotion of Klay Kubiak( an up an coming hot commodity they don’t want to lose)to OC is interesting and Shanahan obviously think he’s talented and he hasn’t had a OC since McDaniel, but who really makes the play calling it’s always been Shanahan ?unless he’s finally willing to just COACH and Relinquish play calling to Kubiak?Time will tell how this plays out..
Shanahan knows offense, some defense, and next to nothing about ST.Which is fine so long as the coaches he delegates do!
I don’t expect Shanny to coach or call much in regards to ST he never has except for a fake punt or onside kick when it fits the game flow.
And when they fail at that he has to find a replacement with somebody better and Schieder &Sorenson wasn’t the answer!
Yeah, they should have made changes in ST immediately after they looked fucking stupid every goddamn game. The Rams game springs to mind. That one missed fake punt can very well be seen as the point where the season went south.
They should have made changes to the defense after the Dallas game. At the least told Sorensen that he needs to step up the pressure.
Or fire him.
Sorensen as ST coach? Yeah, just move your incompetence over here . . .
Kubiak as OC? Sure. As long as he gives more than knob service to Shanahan.
There’s no girls here…..
