The String is Played . . .

Nothing but garbage time for these last 3 weeks. Realy don;t know or care what they do now. This was an abject waste of a season. I have no more faith in the coaching staff or the front office to do the right thing. They are simply gonna call this season a bad one due to injuries and overlook the complete failure of Shanahan and Co to make any kind of adjustments to the plays called, the schemes run, and the coaching staff itself.

I’m sure they’ll jettison Brian Schneider, the special teams coach, because, yeah, special teams were special. Problem is, they should have fired him in September when all the ugliness started.

Our brainless two-headed DC? Staley and Sorensen? Blutarsky and Unclutch? Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dumber? Whatever the fuck, Sorensen has to roll. Without even a scintilla of doubt.

And you know me. I think Shanahan should be gone. 8 years of blowing big games has finally infected the regular ones as well. We should be 5-0 in our division games as we had leads in all of them in the 4th quarter, and instead we are 1-4. And this is why the season is lost. Because Shanny cannot fogire out a way to close out games in the 4th quarter.

I think he still has nightmares about the 25 point blown lead with the Falcons against the Patriots.

All is not lost. We still have epic YouTube rock videos in every thread. And next year will be a championship year, for sure.

Not sure how any of those Atlanta coaches even got jobs after that Super Bowl disaster…

NYJ will be cleaning house soon. Hoping we’ll be looking for Ulbrich or Saleh to come over.

As for ST it might be worth a shot from the college ranks. I just hope we have some better luck with the Draft than our track record of recent years has shown.

The 2024 draft, minus the baffling 1st pick, is pretty solid.

I can remember quite a few disappointing Niner seasons but this one takes the cake. I guess it’s because expectations were up there. I really don’t feel it like I used to but this season just leaves me empty. Big changes are needed IMO and I would be more than happy to see some large scale changes made even if it means we don’t see any playoffs for a few years.

Well I have to put this out there, the Niners didn’t go to a SB from 1985 to 1989. So to me it shows that even as good as the players were sometimes shit goes sideways. So for me it is wait for next year. With that said, they better get a DC who understands when the front line isn’t getting it done he will adjust. The unfortunate thing is Kyle is set in his ways. He does not make adjustments. So maybe it is time for a new HC

1985 to 1989 was when Eddie D ran Walsh out of his job and Seifert took over. The system and the players were in place though. Holmgren and Shanahan watched over the offense and Seifert the defense.

Right now I think we have the players, but the coaching staff and front office are not quite clear what needs to happen.

A re-do will nearly guarantee another disappointing season.

The least they should do is fire Sorensen and Schneider. I have no idea what Staley even does. Fire him as well.

And they need to at least get rid of Hargrave and Deebo. Campbell is already dust, and Dee Winters was pretty awful.

This team as we proved this season has little to no depth behind the starters. Not sure why the O wass flat and pathetic down the stretch, but there you go. It was the D and ST failing early and often that led to the late losses. WAY too many penalties killed drives and stopped big plays.

Purdy even had his struggles, but he looked like he was getting leery in the pocket. There wasn’t enough adjusting by the coaching staff to get Purdy more and better pass pro.

I really don’t see why this team feels as if they can stand on their laurels and get a re-do.

They need to rebiuld the interior O line AND D lines. FLoyd pissed me off most of the year, but he looks like he improved some down the stretch.

I’d bench most of the starters and play Josh Dobbs.

I just proposed this to my boys the other night in the context of being able to afford Dre and Purdy.

Seems Baldy is on the same page

Seems he’s suggesting the opposite of what many of us are calling for.

Sure, holding the Rams to 12 was impressive on its own but the offense shit the bed.

Shanny appears to be lost in translation.

Purdy showed that foul weather greatly diminished his abilities when the running game was squashed, leading to errant throws and deep ball inaccuracies.

I’m finding reasons to question whether making him a Dak-like offer is warranted. Shanny’s ability to call a game goes down the shitter without CMc too, who’s grinding to a halt at this point, and others (like Dre) will be in line for lucrative deals themselves.

I’ve seen some speculation regarding Dillon Gabriel as a potential Draft target for us as well.

I’ve only seen him a couple of times but the Ducks aren’t ranked this high without a competent QB having something to do with it.

Too many reasons for head scratching and what needs to be done to fix this mess.

My first draft request. DT Grant, Michigan

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

They don’t really have much of a choice regarding Purdy. Getting rid of a young guy like Purdy for a journeyman like Darnold looks good on paper, but Darnold is gonna warrant something in the same ballpark anyway with the way he’s playing.

Darnold’s on a one-year make-good deal, and he is nearly guaranteed to stay in Minnesota. Unless someone like SF overpays for him. Which puts him in the same area code as Purdy.

They can structure the deal to not be hugely impactful for a couple years anyway. Build both the lines. LB depth. Get rid of Deebo and Hargrave.

I’m just about done with Shanahan. As I’ve said, I’d hire Bobby Slowik. He knows the system and the people here. Shanahan proved this year that he is getting worse at finishing games. His issues aren’t getting better, they are getting worse.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Annnd the Falcons bench Kirk Cousins for sucking. Crazy. Looks like Darnold got the sweet end of that whole quarterback shuffle.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, but Ambry’s no big loss either.

I guess there is something after all to coaching continuity. We sure haven’t had it on defense.

And we’ve lost all of our passing and running coordinators these last few seasons.

They should shut down Bosa, Greenlaw, and Kittle, and they are shutting down Trent Williams.

I’d bench Deebo and start Cowing. Or at least give him more than zero fucking reps.

I’m even ready to sit Purdy.

Might as well TANK the last 3 games and move up the draft board ( 13-14? Pick) and go OT with Kelvin Banks Texas,Will Campbell Minnesota they have to find a replacement for Williams who might just hang up the cleats!

But as we all know Defense is always their first choice. So Edge Rusher to bookend Bosa are Big Man Ballin NT for NJ that holds the point of attack also works.Winder’s guy Michigan’s Grant a solid pick as well. But OL with only Aaron Banks&Puni the locks need revamping and get rid of McKivitz&Brendel!!

Late rd pick the 6th if available I wouldn’t mine Oregon’s QB Dillon Gabriel a perfect fit in Shanahan’s west coast offense. No way Allen are Dobbs coming back as their F/A and useless anyway..

  15. Winder's avatar Winder says:

The only thing in my mind that’s holding me back on totally buying in on Purdy is that he’s not very good in wet weather and you can figure there will be 4-6 wet games a year. Other than that he can throw the deep ball with some touch he just needs protection. He can read the whole field even though sometimes he loses the wide open receiver. His whole game is precision imo.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

As far as Darnold goes the Vikes have way better lines on both sides of the ball. I don’t think he would have been near as good as Purdy was with our lines.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I’d keep Dobbs. Allen ain’t no Darnold.

I think Purdy is nursing his shoulder injury. He looked off even before he got hurt.

What these guys have to do is figure out how to beat man coverage. Use Cowing on some deep routes for fuck’s sake. Danny Gray got nothing in his time here. He’s now languishing on the Eagles practice squad.

I liked the Bear game where we came out throwing quick passes to Kittle early. It opened things up in the run game.

Then again Shanny likes to stop doing things that work.
