This season is distilling in my head the problems I’ve seen with Kyle Shanahan. The lack of changing schemes in a given game, his stubbornness in rotating players, his ‘I’m the smartest guy in the room’ approach to coaching, and his complete inability to close out games.
Yeah, I’ve gone over this a thousand times, but this season alone has shown this stubborn approach and how it has failed numerous times. Even in 3 of our 5 wins this year, Dallas, Seattle, and Tampa nearly came back and won those games. Our 2 ‘great’ wins came over the hapless Jets, and the horrible Patriots.
9 of these games saw us with the ball and the lead in the 4th quarter. We lost 4 of them. We could very easily be 2-9. And we could just as easily be 8-3. Such are the vagaries of the NFL. 9 of these games came down to a few plays. A blocked punt. A missed FG. A punt return for 60 yards. a KO return for a TD. And the hundreds of inopportune penalties.
Pre-snap penalties, false start penalties, special teams penalties, and our shit O line and their holding penalties.
Shanny doesn’t know how to change shit up. This is the same problem Harbaugh has. And the Chargers are starting to crack already despite their 7-4 record. Looking at their games, they are routinely out-schemed in the 2nd half due to the inability to make in-game changes to affect the outcome. Too many 3 and outs late. No taking shots on 4th down. No downfield passing. Abandoning the run. On and on.
Say the team goes 1-5 down the stretch. I mean, really, even the Bears are a stretch. That would put us at 6-11. This team has a shot at losing out based on what I’ve seen. 5-12 would be an unmitigated disaster, and SHOULD be the impetus to can Shanahan.
I’m sure the wimp that is Jed will do nothing but let Shanny ride out his last year as the lame fuck HC, but this team, despite it’s aging, is still among the best in the league.
We need a fucking head coach that understand that you cannot ignore the O line and expect your young newly minted billionaire QB to simply dodge pass rushers his whole career. Same goes with the defense. We have decimated the interior line with pushovers and run a terrible scheme.

I’m with 12th regarding Jauan being the steal of the roster. BA and Deebo are totally mailing it in from the Bank. As it stands now both can pound sand from whatever island they can afford. Neither have any heart to lead.

Fred Warner has been playing with a fractured ankle since week 4 using pain killers and injections before each game! Dude’s a Dawg in a consistent amount of injuries but just another hit to monitor going forward and surely a offseason surgery…
This team is banged up. This is not our year. We singed a lot of playmakers. That is great, but they need time and space to make plays.
I remember right here on this site, people complaining that we were drafting too many defensive linemen. IMO, you can never draft too many defensive linemen.
We’ve got playmakers, we are weak in the trenches. We need to take our lumps this year and get healthy. Draft O and D linemen and get back to dominating. There is no such thing as dominating with playmakers if you are getting pushed around at the line of scrimmage. Nothing Shanny can do about that if Lynch doesn’t fix the trenches.

Being banged up is one thing, lack of heart is another. Deebo has disappointed me big time since he got his Bank. BA was showing signs also before going down.
We need to get a qualified understudy for Trent and stiffen up RT and center. Wouldn’t hurt to get a TE or 2 that can block as well. When Kittle is absent the running game suffers significantly.
And Shanny can’t find an answer to break the blitzing being thrown our way. Would like to see Pearsall more in those situations.

Well, Solly Thomas and Javon Kinlaw sucked. Kinlaw especially what with his injury history. Both were 1st round busts.
We shouldn’t have dumped DeFo. I was ambivalent about AA, but his absence left a big hole in run stopping. It would be nice to get Givens back.
But the scheme still sucks.

Maybe that will give us a chance. No matter how I look at it I don’t see us getting much better until we take care of the lines, same as it ever was. I never thought we had a shot of keeping Snell but was truly hoping. The Dodgers are simply telling the division dweebs to kick rocks. But at least most of knew we have a rebuild going on there. I hope Posey can work his magic if he has any with our minor league system cause that is our biggest problem imo.
The problem with hoping for the draft is it takes 3 years to know. We got that Eldridge kid but not much else for now.
The thing that bugs me about the front office is them crying poverty when the Dodgers have a bigger payroll and the sign Snell.

The last draft was very solid, they found starters and depth on a talented team, very impressive, Puni is phenomenal.

Well I happen to disagree with keeping Kittle in for run blocking it should be the full back. Just once I would like to see Kyle spread out the receivers, Deebo and Kittle on one end and Jennings and Pearsall on the other, CMC in the back field. And I mean spread them out. If the Niners had any kind of O-line they could do this. Walsh had an Oline that could pass protect and run block, and that was when the pass rush was brutal. If I was Shanny I would not play Purdy today. Trent’s not playing Banks is not playing and there is so much snow on the ground it is gonna be a mess. I would treat Purdy with kid gloves for the rest of the year. He has been limited in every practice. Do the best we can with who we got and get the fuck out of town.
