The good news? We get a game real quick to try and erase the bad taste of this last one.
The bad news? We are going to Seattle banged up and licking our wounds from the last game.
Mooney Ward is questionable. You know, the guy who regularly shuts down DK Metcalf. But the rest of the guys available, short of our kicker, are off the list. including George Kittle and Fred Warner.
But Elliott is out, Hufanga as well, and Flannigan-Fowles didn’t practice as well.
So, this doesn’t seem to bode well for the Red and Gold.
Given the malaise the team is playing with, you’d think going to Seattle facing a team on top of them might motivate them to play a full game.
Then again, who knows? Both the Ram game and AZ game, the team seemed to simply mail it in late and poof, game over, man. it’s easy to pick these losses apart, and trust me, we all saw the writing on the wall as the team hosed itself over and over.
Is it the coaches? The players? The play calling? The schemes they run? The lack of in-game adjustments? Special teams failures? Red zone fuckups? Sun spots?
Sure. At various times all of these are true. But at some point, the guys on the field need to make plays. Fred Warner is damn near DPOY based on 5 game this season, but where is Bosa? Floyd? Winters? Ward? These guys are out there going through the motions it looks like. This is no way to get the the Super Bowl. Is shanahan losing the team?
A desultory loss here could very well spell the end of this run. If they can’t pull this one out, it could very well signal the demise of Kyle Shanahan as the driving force behind this team. I don’t foresee Shanahan getting fired if we lose, but we are staring at 2-5 with the non-hung-over 5-0 Super Bowl champion Chiefs coming, then the pissed off Cowboys come to town. A team more beat-up than us. Then mercifully the bye week.
This was supposed to be the easy part of our schedule.
Meanwhile. I’ll be sittin’ on the dock of the Santa Clara mud flats.
I’ll blame it on SUN SPOTS ☀️they won’t have to worry about them Thursday Night in Seattle..
But seriously the Niners are still imo the best team in the division,It’s time to put up are shut up, they have to win this game and I think they will 24-13 Niners…
Moon shadows, then.
Bosa missing tackles on Sunday made my head spin.
I’ll hope it was simply a bad day in the heat but, I’m beginning to sense some pushback with Sorensen and the scheme.
Plenty of fuel to put on the fire for Shanny too. Squandered double digit leads in B2B Division games will definitely increase the heat on him in Seattle tomorrow night if he goes 0-3 in Division.

This can’t hurt..

Bill Parcells was a big believer in special teams, so is Bellicheat. Field position is crucial and ST provides that. It might just be perception but from the outside looking in but Kyle hasnt made the emphasis on ST that it deserves, including getting a proven ST guru coach.
Other than kicker, he doesn’t usually put much talent into it, like returner for instance, Prime Time was the returner for the Niners last SB season and at the time he made a huge field position difference.
I think the only reason Kyle drafted a kicker high was because of the points he could score, Gould could barely get the ball into the end zone for instance and as a result there were a lot of returned balls, but he was amazing at scoring points.
Kyle just gave a big vote of confidence to ST coach Brian Schneider but for what? Niners are ranked 31st out of 32 teams on ST, what inspires confidence about that?
Loyalty to his staff is all very laudable but I want to see wins and Schneider clearly isn’t holding up his end of the deal.
The fact that just about 80% of any KO or punt return is for major + yards is damning in itself. the fact we have a blocked punt and fell victim to a fake punt and more than a few muffed punts returns speaks volumes to how little special teams are a priority. Kyle just starts throwing random guys back there a la Juice 2 weeks ago.
Walsh may have said “I don’t worry about special teams” but he had fat Ray kicking FGs at a pretty good clip, and KO/punt coverage was solid.
Right, and even worse is Kyle said they knew that a fake punt was possible there yet it still happened and they made it look easy. Where’s the coaching accountability in that?
I think its time to put more resources into ST, it’s been a major factor in losing 2 games so far. Oh and do something about Schneider, loyalty be dammned.
Yeah I’m with you 12th, Brian Schneider is the worst ST coach ever in 49ers history and I cringe every time watching this unit on the field except for that FG block and return for a TD by Lenior they just plain out Suck and having to use Juice on a punt return seriously ?cause they can’t trust anyone else not to fumble it’s a mess..
Funny thing is Schneider use to be ST coach 2010-2020 with Seattle and had the #1 ST unit in football, they blocked FG’s, Punts, pinned teams back on kickoff returns, their side they returned kickoffs for TD’s 105 yards by Lockett in his rookie year plus a punt return and 5 total TD’s as Lockett made ST first team..
Now I’m thinking is it all on Schneider? who was great in Seattle but now can’t coach anymore? cause the talent isn’t there with the Niners like it was with Seattle?
That’s part of what I’m saying Kat, other teams use more high profile players in the returner role. Yes it ads an element of injury risk but it comes down to how the coaches value ST.
It just might be that our defense is not capable of creating pressure on a regular basis. I know we miss Greenlaw but nobody on our dline is playing that great. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Seattle take this one.
Hope all is well for you Winder, its been quite a welcome to Florida so far for you.
I have to believe the Niners show up for this game, none of us would be shocked by another loss if we’re being truthful, however I expect a much better Niner team tonight.
Thanks 12th- The storm missed us again by over 100 miles. Feel terrible for the people who weren’t quite so lucky.
DC Sorenson on missed tackles:
“I think we miss tackles sometimes because we’re aggressive,” Sorensen explained. “We do coach our guys to take their shots. If you make me a cut-up of those tackles, I’ll tell you if it’s a good or bad one, to be honest. We play aggressive, we play violent.”
Bosa leads the team in missed tackles followed by LB Campbell.
Niners have 29 missed tackles just in the last 2 weeks, that’s piss poor.
Shit. 29 tackles? Worse than I suspected.
New thread is up.
Nobody is getting open.
