Well, like I mused a couple weeks ago, the Jets fired Robert Saleh. Are we in panic mode yet with our defense? I think y’all know what I think. And that is a resounding YES!!! I think the players would be down with it as well. Those Saleh defenses were much more aggressive and much more disruptive than the lay back and wait for offense to get a rolling head start before trying to tackle anyone.
We may not be in dire straights yet, but a loss this Thursday would put us at 0-3, and in last place in the division. Or, we could be in 1st with a win. Yeah, it’s still early, but this defense isn’t getting better. It is just not in position on any given play. Yeah, Greenlaw being out has hurt. But our safety play has been awful. Too many TE drags and screens go for 15 yard chunks. The 3rd down success rate is through the roof. Our corners are doing OK but with little pressure, they can’t cover for 5-6 seconds on a given pass play.
We do so little blitzing that teams pick them up with ease. The 2 biggest plays were the 4th and 5 AZ faced down 23-21, and the 1st and 10 as the Niners were trying to get into FG (uhhhhhh) range after falling behind 24-23. We sent pressure, and Murray floated a duck out to the flat that Marvin Harrison caught for a 1st down, Purdy of course was pressured and got hit before he could get his pass off to kittle in the flat. Int. Game over.
I would make the switch NOW just to be able to adjust to the new defense faster. No sense waiting around.

Don’t forget Saleh had different players. And there are injuries. I still think they should go to a 5 man front. Teams are preparing for the usual 4 man rush. The NE game was like playing a college team or slightly better. Just throw that game out of the mix. Seattle would be the game to go to the 5 man.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Niners signed former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Matthew Wright to a one-year contract.
Wright, 28, appeared in one game with the Carolina Panthers in 2023. He missed his lone attempt from 50+. He had 14 attempts with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, where he made 12, including one attempt from 50 and 5-of-6 from 40.
Wright has made 85 percent of his 47 career field goal attempts and 6-for-9 from 50+ yards. He has 83 kickoffs, with 28 percent of those resulting in touchbacks. It was important for the 49ers to find a kicker, as punter Mitch Wishnowsky had to handle those duties on Sunday once Moody went down.

Fuck. I just don’t get that no one nationally seems to be talking about our defense, which has fallen from 3rd in points allowed to 13th.
Yeah, the red zone offense sucks. Yeah, not haveing CMC hurts. but we have to do a better job scoring. A lot better.

Just like the SF Giants this year our 49ers have some real issues with their FO. Injuries will decimate a team but we are losing games by not adjusting our play. Teams have just figured us out. I would love to get Saleh back more because on his enthusiasm. I remember he also played a soft defense at times and it was pretty infuriating but I still think he’s better that what we have now.
Only been in Florida for 3 weeks and already have had 2 fucking hurricanes coming our way. As of now this one is supposed to miss us like the last one but until it hits land nothing is for certain. This Milton is a big bad one. We are only 4 miles from the Alabama border and from what I hear is most people think this part of Florida is really Alabama.
Holy shit, Winder. Hope all goes well. Got a friend in Asheville NC, and he escaped major damage, but a 30′ tree did slowly tip over and lean against his house. It took him 2 hours to chainsaw a path to his street as so many trees came down. He got his power back on yesterday after running on generator for 2 weeks.
He said it looks like a bomb went off in town. He says that everyone is totally pitching in to clean things up and that everyone is super helpful.
