Deal the Cards

The good news is we have another home game. The bad news? Well, AZ seems to be a huge thorn in our side. They seem to match up well against us, but maybe I’m still in shock from the game I saw in 2021 when the Cards rolled us 31-17. Thing it, the Niners are riding a 4-game winning streak and none of them were close.

AZ is 24th in yards allowed, and 28th in point given up. Glaringly, 28th in run defense. Something we just might want to stress. The one thing AZ does well is run the ball. As I saw in 2021 when James Connor ran down our throats repeatedly. He and Kyler Murray lead the way with the 5th best rushing attack.

The one thing we haven’t faced this season IS a mobile QB like Murray. Fucking Sam Darnold got the better of us on some scrambles, so the impetus will be once again to get pressure on Murray and keep him contained. And yeah, AZ is 1-3, but they’ve had a pretty tough schedule to start the season. Their losses are to Deetroit, Buffalo, and the surprising Washington Generals. Their lone win was a crushing of the Lambs.

Play clean and we should be fine. But we haven’t had anything resembling a clean game this year. Too many pre-snap penalties, too many missed assignments on the back end of the defense, and too much porous run defense.

Playing the Patsies sure makes our defensive numbers look better, but this game will be a big test to get our guys in the right places. If special teams becomes an issue again, this team will be wasting their talent to no avail. Losing our first 2 division games would be a very bad precedent to boot.

Should the Niners go after this guy

We ate their lunch at the LB level and they have yet to improve much Irish. Our problem is plugging the run game, much the same as Philly.

Said it for years, FAT MAN IN THE MIDDLE!

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Greenlaw will improve our situation. We are not getting enough pressure or stuffing the run game well enough. Once the LBs bite on the play action our secondary gets exposed.

        Bottom line…

We’re not getting pressure in the QBs face. Pin him in and hit him in the face. We’re not there.

About time Shanny started trusting his rookies. Fucking Odum was terrible. That switch should have been made in camp. They did get Puni in there when that was patently obvious. Mustapha might be a little green, buit he’s a much better guy than Odum.

Yiadom has been struggling as well. Green I think is gonna be the starter now. As far as the LBs go, I think we are OK. Other news is Kalia Davis is practicing today. Getting him back would be a big help top the interior defense. Not sure when he’ll be ready, but’s he’s getting close.

Trey McBride looks to come back too. He’s a very good TE. Not as worried as I was about the Minnesota game, but we need to be on to win this. No stupid fuckups. Cut down on the pre-snap fucking penalties.

  5. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah I have TE McBride on my FF team he’s solid. That concussion was a bummer. But wtf every week a different player gets one.

Glad to see Renardo Green possibly moving into Odom’s spot that’s an upgrade needed.
However the Niners still giving up 200 yards on pass defense and the Cardinals did add a STUD young WR in Marvin Harrison this year who’s ballin out like Malik Nabers with the Giants. So keeping him contained somewhat will be crucial..

AKat we’ve had issues with mobile QBs forever. AZ has a solid run game as well.

This, for me, will be the litmus test for our DCo.

      I expect a shootout.

Sam Okuayinonu had a HUGE game off the practice squad. They need to keep him out there. He leveled Brissett late in the game, forced a fumble, and had a big tackle for a loss.

  7. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

49ers actually got 19 snaps out of DT Evan Anderson( big man ballin NJ at 336 lbs) just called up from the practice squad. He had a late sack plus 2 pressures and Shanahan pointed out he played well with his chances and should see more action..

Yeah agree NJ , mobile QB’s have always been a sore point even from the old days of that little shit Fran Tarkenton ( most annoying ever)who ran around for 12-15 seconds just to finally pick up 2 yards on a dump off.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Huh. Looking at the stats, and Purdy is #2 in passing yards, Mason is #2 in rushing yards, and Jennings is #4 in rec yards. The O is #2 in yards as well.

I knew the O was doing well but if the D can just get to where it should be we’ll be fine. Get on it, Sorensen.

  9. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Stats change so quickly in the NFL.Niners number 2 on offense only behind Ravens. They have cracked top 10 somehow on Defense at #9.. The Jets who were crushed by the 49ers in week one and ranked last on defense after week 1 are now ranked #3..

I’m in a pick ’em league and it is fucking insane. Things are settling down, but there were SO MANY upsets and weird outcomes and I sucked terribly till last week. I mean, really. Joe fucking Flacco beats the undefeated Steelers? And I picked it! Every time I picked the Colts, they’d tank. Every time I bet against them, they’d win. So I went oppo last week.

As usual, the NFL has padded the scheds of teams like Minn and Washington (regardless of their shitty divisions) and they are moving on up to the upper echelon.

Pittsburgh and Dallas, along with their injury woes, are slarving the doad right about now.

We are balancing on the precipice of the season right now with these 2 huge divisional games in 5 fucking days. We are already down one to the Rams and can’t afford to drop any more. I don’t think the Seahawks are for reals, but AZ is better than their record, so this one is big.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Faclons and Bucs tonight. Should be a fun one.

Both these teams are kinda crawling our of the muck and look to be making headway.

    Commanders, Seahawks, Vikings, Bucs.

Can’t say I saw that coming. GB looks to get healthy with Love back.

Yikes. Wrong time for a Thursday game.

  14. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Yeah usually Thursday night games are Stinkers, not tonight 36-30 Falcons in OT taking it all the way down field for the win..Got 34 points out of WR London on 12 catches and a TD.He goes out gassed in OT and his replacement Hodge scores a TD on the next play wow.KOO sent in to OT last play in regulation clutch kick..

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Damn. Cousins throws for 509 yards going 42-58 in the 36-30 OT win over the Buccos.

TB’s defense looked like ours giving up tons of passing yards. TB got no pressure on Cousins.
