.500!

Hey, at least the Niners did it. The hapless Giants couldn’t quite seal the deal and finished up the season 80-82. Disappointing enough for Greggie Johnson to fire Farhan Zaidi, and promote Buster Posey to President of Baseball Operations. I’m a little shocked, but the real question is, will the owners let Buster spend money? Or will this be another exercise in pinching pennies while the real estate around the stadium flourishes. And whither MoTel? Will he get the axe? I’d generally say yes, but this is no ordinary organization.

But that’s baseball.

The 49ers returned to their home field yesterday, and sort of laid to rest issues with the team and its fortunes. At least we put away a shitty team. Unlike Dallas, who struggled mightily to beat the woeful New York Giants. Or Philly, who got their ass handed to them by the Bay Bucs. Weird start to the season to say the least when you see Washington, Seattle, Minnesota, and Tampa Bay as the early NFC division leaders. I would have picked none of these teams to be in 1st at the quarter pole.

But yeah, too many pre-snap penalties. 2 TDs called back. A huge special teams fuckup. A fairly stupid INT. And the obligatory additions to the injury list.

The good news? Mason continues to run like a man on fire. Purdy had a solid day (minus the pick) hitting Deebo, Aiyuk, and Jennings on deep balls, and throwing a perfect jump-ball to Kittle in the back corner of the end zone. The pass pro was a little weak, as Purdy did a lot of scrambling, but it served him well getting a couple key 3rd down conversions.

The defense put a lot of pressure on Jacoby (I’ve been everywhere, man) Brissett and we stuffed NE’s run game. But even early on, their first drive saw a lot of early 3rd down conversions until they stupidly went for it on 4th down. Add in the softy defense to close the half, this allowing a 63 yard (!!!) FG before swinging the comeback door open and fumbling the 2nd half kickoff, and the rout that was to be was not to be yet. But the play to get the whole thing going was the electrifying 45 yard pick 6 by Fred Warner.

The D did show different looks and did a nice job of stopping the Pats, but they are the Pats. Basically the Jets with a younger QB. My hope is Robert Saleh gets canned and we get him back. This team needs to healthy up. Not sure what the deal is with Warner and his ankle. Elliott as well. I’ll update as the news comes out.

Saleh blitzed the shit out of the last couple opponents and still doesn’t get home. He’s handcuffed with a lousy O-line and no running game. I’d be more inclined to question the GM.

That said, we’re handcuffed with no interior pressure.

    Fat Man NEEDED!

Elliott was playing better than Hargrave before he got hurt.

Been meaning to see this guy for quite a while.

Christ. Hopefully by January we get everyone back. And we are in the playoffs.

Gotta remember that Jeff Ulbrich runs the D for Saleh too. They have plenty of weapons there, it’s a weak O-line creating the bulk of their issues.

Charlie Hustler. Threw his teammates, friends, and family under the bus to push his lies for 14 years. Then he came clean to sell his book.

    Never liked the guy.

Decent news on the injury front. Fred Warner is considered day-to-day with an ankle issue. As are wide receiver Jacob Cowing (shoulder) defensive tackle Jordan Elliott (knee), tight end George Kittle (rib), WR Chris Conley (oblique), and fullback Kyle Juszczyk (shoulder). Elliott looked better than Hargrave, so I hope he’s back.

Too funny seeing Juice fielding punts. But the special teams failures are not funny at all. They have to nail this shit down.

Gotta say one thing, Seattle’s defense gave up a boatload of points. So did Deetroit’s. Good win for them though.

We get AZ at home this weekend and the quick turnaround Thursday game in Seattle. 2 division games in 5 days. The bye week can’t come fast enough.

    Got to get healthy somehow.

With all the injuries my expectations are pretty low even against teams that I know we are better than. The league is now running much of Shanny’s scheme and it’s not fooling teams like it used to. We have to be a little more creative on both sides of the ball and do it with reserves. Not an easy task.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

We’ll see but these next 2 are very important as we already have a division loss to the Rams. Purdy is doiung his part in all this. As is Mason.

Just have to stop with the stupid mistakes. AZ and Seattle are both hot messes. But they can get points on the board. But they give them up by the truckload.

Mason is being overused just like CMC was last year. If he gets hurt or worn down the cupboard is pretty bare behind him.

Coaches need to find a way to mix in Taylor or Guerendo. With CMC an unknown they have to preserve Mason and especially since he’s never seen this kind of workload in college or pros. Yes he has less wear and tear than other backs coming out but we also don’t know where his limit is and I don’t want to find out.

Leave it to Shanny 12th, he’s anal.

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Yup, lots of games last year they could have subbed Mason for CMC in the 4th qtr NJ, they just didn’t. Here we are with an overused RB with two achillies strains. Last time CMC got used that much with the Panthers he had 2 injured years in a row.

So far this year they are using Mason at the same clip as CMC last year. Didn’t learn anything apparently.

Saw Joe Bonamassa a few years back in Reno, NJ. Great show. Just saw Steve Vai with Adrian Belew a couple weeks ago playing old King Crimson tunes. Great stuff.

Totally on board with Shanny and his insistence on seemingly running guys into the ground. Really need to get Taylor into the mix. Guerendo? I guess. As long as he’s holding on to the ball.

Id take Adams in a heartbeat for Aiyuk! Both teams take the other players contract..Obvious Shanahan can’t stand Aiyuk’s constant crap, Adams is not that way he’s a Consummate PRO not a head case like Aiyuk continues to be..

Make it so!Adams just wants to play for a winning organization and a winning QB.He gets neither playing for the hapless Raiders..

Man sky’s the limit with Purdy to Adams ballin out..

Even when he gets what he wants, Rodgers still loses. I didn’t watch much of that Jets Broncos game. Do they have a bad line? Are the play calls terrible?

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Checked out a bit of the all-22. Wow. Their line is bad. Pre-snap penalties and the like to go along with the constant pressure. Shitty conditions.

Kinda like the Chicago game a couple years ago.
