Yes, It IS the Defense

Per David Lombardi, the 49ers are 26th in defensive pressures on QB dropbacks. 26th for this $ billion D line. One that was just set back by Javon Hargrave’s season-ending triceps injury. But really, what are we missing? His numbers last year were a pretty big drop from his last year with the Eagles.

And Leonard Floyd? 1 sack in 3 games? Bosa’s 2 in 3? Where are these guys? It sure looks like everyone knows that we are doing nothing to disguise our intent. We run our base 4 wide 9 defense and it isn’t fooling anyone. We are getting run on, and we are getting passed on. We don’t stop the short passing game, and we have given up a lot of big plays. Last year it was Chase Young who came in and underwhelmed.

Yeah, special teams has reared its ugly head in these losses, but the overarching problem IS the defense. This scheme put NO pressure on the QBs we’ve faced. And we haven’t even faced a mobile guy yet. Fucking Darnold had over 40 yards rushing against us. Stafford was sacked a few times, but other than that suffered little pressure.

This team gives up 3rd downs at a better than 50% (53%) clip. Good enough for 30th in the NFL. I feel like I’m pissing in the wind here regarding our defense. This scheme is soft and provides little resistance to any NFL QB.

Gone are the days of the max pressure DeMeco Ryans. Or even Robert Saleh and his sideline histrionics. We are wasting the abilities of our linebackers. They simply play 10-15 yards off the line and sit in a soft zone most of the time. When we DO blitz, it is easily snuffed out as we so rarely line up more than 4 on the line. Very little stunting.

The problem there is that our opponents seem to easily get to our 2nd level on runs and since the LBs are back, it’s usually 8 yards before any contact. Throwing in front of the zone is a simple task, and even still, guys get deep as there has been a lot of miscommunication on the back end. Odum being a big issue.

I’d hate to lump us in with Dallas but we are very close to being the most overrated defense in the NFL. The Cowboys struggled to beat the Giants, ffs. We can’t stop a thing.

Like I said, a win would go a long way to helping the cause, but really this shouldn’t even be hard. The only ones stopping us is ourselves.

If we don’t adjust we might not win 5 games Unbelievable.

Miscommunication in the back-end and not stopping the run. Like I said up there, throw in the soft zone of the LBs and we are not really good at stopping anything. The only thing he said that I don’;’t agree with is the pass rush. It HASN’T been that good. The Jes, Minn, and LA don’t have good lines, yet the pressure on all of them was minimal. When you don’t rush the pocket, you don’t get INTs.

Amazing how far and how fast we have fallen. The Cowboys are right there with us for underachieving wildly defensively this season. What I absolutely cannot believe is Brandon Staley has anything to do with this. He’s not a vanilla milquetoast kind of guy.

I expected a shit-ton more out of him and the unit. As of now we are a joke.

Not sure what you might have out West for CFB tonight but Rutgers & Washington are playing now.

Bill Belichick in attendance as son Steve is DCo for WU. Maybe a potential guy for SF to consider down the road?

Rutgers Oline is worth paying attention to this year also.

Doing a good job thus far and ranked well overall.

And now it’s time for more injury updates..

Backup LB Curtis Robinson out for the season with a knee injury, DT Jordan Elliot limited with a foot issue, even Big Trent Williams limited but expected to play with a sore toe that propped up a practice..

Can we just get a report of who are the healthiest players good to go??

I guess it’s better to have this shit happen early?

Might not make you to happy Chuck but Shanny might be tinkering with the RB load.He likes what he see’s in Guenerdo taking some of the load off of Mason who leads all RB’s with 67 carries and he likes the possibility of Guenerdo potential to break a long gainer since Mason doesn’t have breakaway speed.. It’s still Mason’s backfield but he could concede 8-10 carries to the backup.See how it plays out tomorrow..

Well, like Harbaugh before him, when Shanny finds something that works, HE is the one to stop it, not the opposition.
