Fuck the SI jinx. The madden curse is a real thing. CMC’s calf strain has of course gone from just the preseason to a couple games to achilles tendonitis and an IR stint for 4 more to now possibly longer. After slowly ratcheting up his practices, CMC had a ‘bad day’ Thursday and had a set-back in his rehab. Now they are saying it could be longer off the field for CMC.

Throw in Deebo’s seeming yearly 2-game stint on the injury list and we are in nearly as bad shape as the Rams.
The Rams of course lost their top 2 WRs, Puka Nacua and Kupper Coop. 0-2 LA got off to a rocky start as well, getting trucked by the Cards and losing a tough opener in Deetroit. Their O line was hit by injuries as LT Noteboom and McDermott are out.
So, the hope is we can actually get some sustained pressure on Stafford. Otherwise we will see the same old pitch and catch we got from Darnold and his 2nd string guys.

Kittle out of practice today with a hamstring problem. Hopefully only precautionary.
There is an article in the SF Chron an Ortho doctor says the tendonitis isn’t an injury you can set a time frame on. He says CMC could feel great one day and a set back the next. He states CMC might be out all year to make sure it heals completely. He could go through a procedure that entails spun blood to get plasma and platelets and then inject that into the Achilles. If he goes that route, at least 6 weeks out. So it looks to me like the Niners should start planning to play without CMC for this year.
NFL was always described as a war of attrition. Chiefs have similar mess. Big off-season signing Hollywood Brown injured in preseason was originally deemed possible for opening day – now they’re saying maybe out for the season. Stud RB Pacheco possibly out half the season for now. Coincidentally, Niners and Chiefs backup RBs have both shown something. And Rashee Rice could be next superstar WR if they take away his car keys. Still don’t understand why he wasn’t suspended…

Battle of the beaten up on Sunday. Rams and Niners both have significant injuries to key players. As Silverback pointed out, it’s next man up and without CMC being injured Mason wouldn’t have had this opportunity, which he has taken full advantage of.
WR, TE, CB, RB and possibly DE all have a chance to showcase what they can do.
I was wrong about the Vikings game, the Purple People ate, but this isn’t a shortened week and its only a short travel to Levi’s South Stadium.

Yeah, I’m not really sure what is wrong with this team but a nice resounding win would help. It all comes down to the trenches as usual. Get pressure on Stafford and it’ll be fine. If not, we stand to lose. Sure, all those sacks on Purdy weren’t his fault, but we have to do better at protection.
