CMC Interrupted

Talk out of the HQ is that CMC is already a ‘longshot’ to play vs the Vikies. Fine. Leave him out the next 2 games at least. Don’t want him on turf. In fact, I’d keep him off any game played on fake grass the remainder of the season. Regular that is. And that is the next two games vs Minn and LA Lambs.

Don’t get me started on ‘fieldturf’. Fucking Seattle can’t grow grass? LA? Fuck them. Fuck all of them. TB plays on grass. The Bills don’t. Green Bay plays on some sort of abomination of real grass and synthetic fiber called hybrid grass. Better than all-fake I guess. Dolphins and Cards play on grass as well. And the fucking Cards play indoors! Like the Raiders, they roll the field outside to catch the sun. My perfect job. Driving the field around.

The NFL preaches ‘player safety’ and lets the owners cheap out on the surface they play on. Get with it!

Anyhow. The Vikies. They are another middling to poor team looking to enhance their present by taking a flyer on a vet QB that hasn’t had a ton of success, a la 1/3 of the NFL teams this year. That QB of course is Sourdough Sam Darnold. A guy who comported himself pretty well here playing backup to Brock Purdy, and parlayed that into a $10,000,000.00 one-shot one-year deal with Minnehaha.

Granted, they have some nice weapons in Justin Jefferson, ex-Packer Aaron Jones, WR Jordan Addison, and, well, that’s about it. Even Addison missed practice today and is the big Q for this weekend. Their defense? Fairly unheralded, but they are full of young vets that are a solid unit. ANd they added CB Stephone Gilmore. Not a group to take too lightly.

But, again, like the Jets, we should be able to run the ball down their throat. Thought we would have used Kittle more last week, but the game plan was solid, if not for the problems getting the ball across the goal line. Not a huge worry. Yet.

All inal, this isn’t a defense to look past. The Niners were great at not turning the ball over, and getting a couple themselves. This, and pass protection, is the key to winning games. We did give up 3 sacks to the lowly Jets, but they have a pretty strong pass rush with Quinnen Williams.

Us? One lowly sack against the least mobile guy in the league and a makeshift line.

I’ll say it again, we need to do more than simply run our base defense all game and expect to walk away with a win.

McCaffrey is going to sit out half the season (at the very least) because he’s a big wimp.

Chuck, while I agree the LB are playing 5 yards soft and the D line is not properly supported in order to get pressures and sacks, the equation is a balance of coverage V pressure and what the result of that looks like.

For me the D line was excellent against the run and did enough in the pressure department to allow the LB and back field to create turnovers and missed passes.

It’s not sexy in the sack department but ultimately was very effective. I think that’s dependant on opponent skillsets but it sure worked against the Jets.

I think in the end it just puts too much pressure on the entire team to play perfectly rather than force mistakes. It is entirely the exact same defense we played last year. Look how the playoffs went. And against good teams, it failed miserably. We blitzed MORE under Wilks than these guys. KC ate this defense up late when they adjusted to it. We didn’t change and they took it to us in the end.

The Jets suck. They can’t run. they have no weapons. Sure, we should have scored 50+ points, but in the end the defense has to be more aggressive. We have these multimillion dollar linemen and it’s base 4 rush EVERY time. We barely even faked blitzes.

I’ve said this a billion times since I started this blog. I’d rather get burned for a long TD on a blitz that watch a team go 85 yards on 17 plays and score that same TD.

Fucking Sam Darnold will kill us if this is the rush we bring. Jefferson WILL get open and eat our lunch if Darnold has time. 1 sack for 5 yards on Aaron Rodgers? With a makeshift line? We pay these guys tons of money to get stiffed by a lackluster O line and a team with no talent.

Detroit killed this defense. GB killed this defense. Even with all that talent. Until we got aggressive. KC certainly did too.

Jets have no weapons? They can’t run?Guess you don’t play Fantasy Football Chuck, cause both RB Breece Hall and WR Garrett Wilson are top 1st rd picks, and both could come in 1st in scoring! One game out of 17 doesn’t make a season, especially opening weekend when most starters don’t even play in preseason.

Fanstasy football has no basis in reality. Otherwise Dak Prescott would have 3 Super Bowl wins.

Breece and Wilson have done nothing in the NFL. Maybe they will, maybe not. But if I had either on my fantasy team, I’d be bummed.

If the refs make the right calls the Niners would have sacks, when your best pass rusher has a choke hold on him then yeah they need to blitz

Man, i remember the good old days of 5 years ago when there were 3 channels that would carry football.

Noew it’s 64 different streaming services every weekend.

The hardest one for me at my bar is Peacock. Prime did a deal through DirecTV so that’s how businesses get it but Peacock only stream and businesses are not set up for that.

Now with DierecTV and Disney arguing we show Monday night football with Spectrum instead of DirecTV.

I can’t understand why the NFL doesn’t insist on streaming services having a normal avenue for businesses to air a sport or event like Prime does.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah I think we have a game or 2 on peacock

Hope they take it easy with CMC. Don’t want to see him on fake grass these next couple weeks. Let him do his light practicing. Now ain’t the time to lose him.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yah, CMC ruled out for this week’s game. I suspect next week as well.

There’s talk of the IR now as CMC had a ‘bad day’ with his calf yesterday.

Yeah, do it. They can retro it to last week.
