Given all the adversity and bullshit this offseason and preseason, plus the scary thought of losing CMC for an extended time, the 49ers comported themselves very well. They shut down the mediocre Jets offense and rad roughshod through the vaunted Jets defense to the tune of a 38:00 to 22:00 TOP win. 8 straight scoring drives after the initial 3-and-out led the way.
Yeah there was rust, as BA did his best to show that he’s got a little contract hangover with his 2 drops. One of course costing the team a TD right before the half. But overall a solid win after a summer of weirdness. Jordan mason had an outstanding day as the replacement for CMC. But stalling in the red zone 6 times is a fairly wasted effort despite Nick Moody going 6 for 6.
And yeah, the defense shut down the vaunted Aaron Rodgers. But please, the Jets have a makeshift line, no run game, and little in the way of weapons for Rodgers. For all the passing, and Rodgers playing from behind, the pass rush got one sack and a few pressures.
What startled me the most is our defense last year was called to task late in the season (by me and millions of others) for being too soft on the run, gave up too many screen passes, failed on a lot of 3rd and longs, and didn’t bitz enough. Well, I saw the same thing yesterday. The LBs were 7 yards back in a soft zone. The one good drive by Rodgers saw them convert three 3rd and long situations with NONE of them having Rodgers face a blitz.
Yeah, great win. Season opener. But I thought Nick Sorensen/Brandon Staley would be ratcheting up the pressure on the opposing QBs with stunts, disguised blitzes and schemes to throw the opposition off balance. Instead I saw nothing but the base defense rushing 4 and dropping the LBs into soft coverage all game. Little to no stunting, and maybe 2 blitzes. Aikman even commented on that during the Jets only meaningful drive for a TD that we were in a soft zone.
Sure, it was enough for the woeful Jets. But even a guy like Sudden Sam Darnold, especially with a guy like Justin Jefferson to throw to can do well playing against what looks to me like a very vanilla defense.
Yeah, could be me . . . never heard this power trio version.
Hopefully the team got tuned up last night and are ready for the grind. I think we played pretty good considering all the rusty and injured players we had. I don’t think we would have beaten the Rams or Detroit though the way they played.

And the hits just keep on coming.
Interesting article on CMC injury, does not sound like he should be playing anytime soon. If he comes back and the calf is not completely healed he could end up with a torn Achilles tendon. Which could end his career. The Niners better play it safe if you ask me.
You can bet the 49ers are going to be super cautious with CMC and no way he’s playing the next 2 road games against the Vikings( short week) are Rams who both have artificial turf playing fields.Week 4 at home against the Patriots on grass is the earliest I expect to see him..
I’d wait till week 7 (KC) and see if he’s ready to go.
Chuck your Pink Floyd list from the last thread needs to include LIVE at Knebworth 1990
Pompeii as well. Glad I got to see them.
Is Jennings moving ahead of BA

I am a big fan of Jennings, for the contract cost over 2 years the guys a steal!
What do you all think of this?

not a terrible idea but not a great need either. If they were to do anything I would find a replacement for McKivitz
It’s BS IMO. Buddy Baker is no joke but the 9ers already have quality guys at an affordable price. Looks like click bait to me Kevin.
Jake Moody was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week
The most glaring need is to figure out how to get the ball in the end zone. 6 field goals, 3 or mor of thos should be TD’s.
Hey, I’m more concerned about the short week and the east coast travel and early start.
This has ‘slow start’ written all over it. Want to see a more aggressive defense.
CMC limited in practice, but practicing. Sit him!
