Covered all the bases this preseason. And the offense actually looked pretty good with Purdy having Deebo and Kittle in there. Although it was the Raiders. Even still, the line was leaky in pass pro while the run blocking was solid. Sound familiar? Mason may very well pass Mitchell on the RB depth chart, but who knows? Mitchell has yet to see the field, and he’s not the most durable guy. But they will all be interchangeable as Shanny likes to play it.
Speaking of durable, we have yet to see what happened to Yetur Gross-Matos and Leonard Floyd. Two guys who are supposed to bolster our pass rush. Both left the game with knee injuries, but both were back on the sidelines looking fairly OK. Both are undergoing MRIs so the hope is they are gonna be fine with the 17 day break.
In other stupid news, we get word that the 49ers knew about Ricky Pearsall’s damaged shoulder becore drafting him. You know, the one keeping him off the field. Nothing wrong with taking late round flyers on hurt guys. NOT on 1st round guys. They did this with Javon Kinlaw. Oooops. Lesson not learned.
Other than that, the talking wonks can’t seem to figure out that Josh Dobbs is the #2 based on what we’ve seen in the actual games. Pretty sure that’s how it plays out. The defense looked much better than previous games with more starters in there. The Walmart brigade however didn’t hold up as well. Still not too thrilled with the positioning of the LBs. They are too far back to fill running lanes, and they get wiped out on screen passes.
Thanks for the rundown chuck once again I missed the game. Getting my house ready to sale. I have a feeling this is gonna be another injury filled season, hope I’m wrong but things don’t look good. I guess we like to hold our breath and cross our fingers with #1 picks. I would normally say live and learn but…
It’s sure shaping up that way, but we’ll see how it plays out. With the Pearsall situation, BA probably has much leverage now as any time during this negotiation. They really need to get this thing buttoned up.
I agree, the owners will never give up the money preseason games generates. I pin this kind of stuff on the coaches. What the hell do they think they’re going to learn about vets like Floyd and Gross-Matos in games like this? How about absolutely nothing. Just a stupid move, IMO.
Lombardi just reported that both those guys have sprained knees, with the MRI’s to come, and he said neither is thought to be an ACL, which they can usually pretty definitively diagnose with an exam and manipulating the joint, so that’s good.
To field a team of 45 players, even with a 90 man roster, it is impossible to avoid playing some starters and especially when over 20 of the 90 man roster is already injured.
Secondly, it is vital to get starters at least some game time play before the games count as well as to evaluate personnel groups in near live game play. It’s that or learn on the job against the Jets on Monday night football when every game really matters.
I don’t have any issue with playing starters to some extent in pre-season and injuries are a necessary risk IMO.
Jacob Cowing has been the star of preseason for me.Last game 39 yard catch,19 more on an end around.TD catch last night 3/39 and 3 punt returns for another 18 yards..
Elijah Mitchell is rounding down his 49er career even if Shanny has a bromance with him( you can’t help the club from the tub every year) As Mason clearly better 8/42 yards and a TD and Guerendo looked real good as well running hard and catching showing good hands! Heck even the experience of Patrick Taylor (former GB Packer RB) could take a spot..
when do cuts start? Read some bad comments.
They have to be down to 53 by Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. PST.

I would take McCaffrey and a 2nd and say addios.
BA ain’t going. WR injuries be damned, he ain’t going. Fucking Pearsall better not be the next Jalen Hurd.
By Tuesday Williams and BA will be signed.
I have a feeling BA’s situation is more about future cap space than anything else. They just want fair compensation for him. They are gonna need some room to breath next year. I think we trade him.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIbYFGmxmxE
Gotta remember Peters is in DC now.
Anything is possible
I’d see us dumping TW after this season rather than losing BA now.
