Well, it’s Official . . .

Brandon Aiyuk has officially asked to be traded. My thought is ask for the moon and let the chips fall where they may. If he wants to hold out for the year, so be it. We can then franchise him next year and he can sit out nother year.

This shit gets tiresome as it comes down to ego. I’m sure BA wants more than Amon-Ra St. Brown at $30 mill/year and $77 mill guaranteed, so there’s the sticking point. Ceedee hasn’t signed yet, so he’s I’m sure looking to that to be his next baseline.

Funny thing is, the 49ers could have avoided this by signing him 6 months ago, but in their infinite wisdom of stalling, got blown out of the water when:

  • Justin Jefferson signed a 4 year, $140 mill extension, $35 mill per year, with $110 mill guaranteed.
  • Amon-Ra St. Brown – 4 / $120 mill / $30 mill per year – $77 mill guar.
  • AJ Brown – 3 / $96 mill / $32 mill per year – $84 mill guar.
  • Jaylen Waddle – 3 / $85 mill / $28 mill per year – $76 mill guar.
  • DeVonta Smith – 3 / $75 mill / $25 mill per year – $51 mill guar.

There are a few more big deals out there, but you get the idea. BA thinks he’s between St Brown and Jefferson. From what I’ve been hearing, the Niners are around $28 mill. I’m sure BA wants $31 mill.

The Niners are still adamant that they aren’t gonna trade him. That is, until someone comes in with a big enough offer. Thing is, he’s under contract and if he doesn’t want to play this year, that choice is completely up to him. Plus we can franchise him next season, so he can sit out 2025 if he likes.

Again, I can’t begin to imagine the rigors of being a pro football player, or even being in a situation where someone is offering you enough money to buy Croatia, but at what point does a good situation become less important to a player than the extra bit of cash that they may get? I know the impetus is to get what you can while you can, but say BA goes to the Redskins. They suck, he doesn’t do very well, and he’s suddenly bitching about the team, the QB, and the front office. He wants out.

It’s only happened about 1,000 times to other prima donna WRs. Antonio Brown. Ocho Cinco, Lance Alworth, Terrell Owens . . . .

BA following the Deebo playbook. What’s next, delete 9ers from social media?

He has no leverage at all. The smart play by the 9ers is let him play out his 5th year as is and franchise him twice, it still would be less over 3 years than what he is demanding.

I don’t see that happening though. My best guess is he signs for less than he wants after a lot more bitching or alternatively he plays out the 5th year and gets franchised and traded.

In any event I think he plays for the 9ers this year. There is a very slim possibility of a trade, on the 9ers terms, which would be getting a player of equal value to the team, not necessarily a WR, who also is not going to cost them more than they want to pay. That scenario doesn’t necessarily help them win this year though.

Niners will sweeten there offer a little bit and BA will come to terms with the fact that he is in Red and Gold this year so he might as well take 90% of what he wants and be happy, like Deebo did. It’s still a shit load of money.

  2. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

The timing of Pearsall getting injured blows though, just before camp starts and BA likely not participating. Haven’t heard what the injury is so fingers crossed he can get on the field.

  3. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

All about the cash and why not? Get what you can while you can. If winning isn’t important there isn’t much else to say.

Land a young CB if possible. For the immediate future, Purdy needs to be paid and it’s quite possible Deebo would be the guy they forego to recoup the pesos to do it.

    We shall see…

  4. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Just another fucked up distraction. At what point do the scales tip from helping the team to hurting the team. The team is what’s important here. IDK the answer.

  5. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Currently that’s how I see it too NJ. Deebo gets traded next year when his guaranteed money has run out. Two caveats to that:

    1. Deebo will have a career year this year because he has to earn his next big contract with whoever he gets traded to.
    2. BA sulks his way off the team after playing this year making Deebo more valuable to the team.

Jennings took a shot at BA yesterday:

“You gotta be a different type of person to act like you doing everything by yourself knowing dang well you not,”

Highly unusual for a fellow teammate, a WR no less, to throw shade especially during money negotiations.

I think Jennings deserves more catches than he gets, he is a very reliable WR, perhaps that’s why he threw some shade?

  6. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

BA wants Amon St Ra money, here is a comparison of both players first 3 years important stats:

    BA receptions 194

    RA receptions 315

    BA yards 2,589

    RA yards 3,588

    BA TD’s 18

    RA TD’s 21

Clearly St. Ra has outperformed BA significantly in his first 3 years in the league. It’s why the Lions gave him such a large payday, although IMO that was also too much.

BA during his first 4 years stats wise is 17th in the league as a WR, he is asking to be paid top 5. BA had a career year in 2023 although he had 3 less receptions and 1 less TD than in 2022, although his yards improved significantly It’s hard to make the case to be paid top 5 money if you are not top 5 by metrics.

He is in a great system that’s super WR friendly, would he be as good on a lesser team? That’s the gamble, he would get more opportunities probably, but also more attention from defenses. I doubt he would be as successful.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, that’s kinda my point. BA’s in a system where he will thrive. And this is pretty much a guarantee. If he goes to the Redskins, he stands to be the focal point of every defense and he’ll be working under a rookie QB. Yeah, they got Terry McLaurin as well, but still, BA’s much closer to winning a ring here than there. Plus he’s more likely to put up better numbers here, regardless of all our options on offense.

Like I said, I can’t pretend to know what’s going through his head, but really, how many millions makes a diff when it comes to the overall success of the team?

Sure, $150 mill is better than $130 mill, but what if your QB sucks and you don’t do shit in your new organization? Do you cry and call out how bad your situation is and demand a trade? We’ve all seen this scenario many many times.

At this point I let him dangle. He can choose to sit for the next 3 seasons. Regardless of how good he is, he needs us more than we need him.

Pretty cool! You had me at Joe Walsh. Timothy Schmidt as well.

    Good stuff.

    Good old Randy Bachmann

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Yeah, I didn’t know Nils Lofgrin(sp) could play guitar like that. I wish they would have feature a solo by Rungrehn(also).

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Speaking of covers, I’ve always like this one.

  10. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

The Niners offer to BA is reported to be 4 years, $26 mil with $66 mil guaranteed, which would make him the 8th highest paid receiver according to David Bonilla.

Amon-Ra is the 3rd highest paid receiver with slightly more money than Tyreek Hill who comes in 4th and Jaylon Waddle 5th.

I don’t see BA being better than those guys. $28 mil would put BA above Cooper Kupp and equal to Devonte Adam’s, tied for 6th highest paid WR in the league. That’s pretty rarefied air, but apparently not enough for BA.

I have a hard time saying “just pay the man”. The Niners offer is solid at $26 mil, maybe they add something in upfront bonus money but to me BA hasn’t shown himself to be a top 5 guy. They have a number of other guys to pay soon in addition to Purdy. I say let him sweat. This diva thing doesn’t look good on him and usually ends in tears especially when you hold no leverage other than refusing to play.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I’m at the point where we just stand pat unless someone goes overboard with an offer. Which they won’t because the other GMs know that we don;t really have to do anything.

Aiyuk has zero leverage seeing that he’s under contract and can be franchised through 2026.

If he’d rather pout than play, so be it.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, 12th, per your earlier post, I think we stick with Deebo and let BA dangle. No way they lose both guys.

  13. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I also think we keep Deebo. It all depends on if he can stay on the field this year. He’s coming in slim and trim and hopefully just as strong and maybe a little faster. He’s also one of the big reasons BA is open so much he gets DT quite a bit.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

That’s what Juaun Jennings got mad about Winder, he and Deebo run a lot of decoy and clear out routes that puts BA 1 on 1 with a DB, it’s part of Shanny’s scheme, but BA definately benefits from it.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yep. If BA becomes the #1 option, he’s gonna have a lot more to deal with.

  14. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Joe Biden drops out. It was the only way forward for Dems. Now it’s all about Harris or a new candidate, we shall see.

He’s losing motivation to call out the obvious move towards autocratic rule. If I wanted to live in Russia I have the freedom to do so.

I’m not a big fan of Harris NJ, but at least she has her faculties, poor Joe did his best but the sands ran out for him.

Apparently Harris already has half the delegates she needs so barring something crazy at the Dem convention, she’s the nominee.

I think they have to be careful who they add to the ticket, already having a Black/Asian woman means they need a white guy to check as many boxes as possible IMO.

Looks like an uphill slog for them to beat Trump/Vance, time is not on their side and Trump has the “hero” tag now for being shot. I was surprised Trump chose another white guy for his ticket though having lost with a two white guy platform last time.

In any event it’s definately not a boring Presidential cycle this time around.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

No way Newsom gets it. Besides being a 12th Amendment violation, he wants the Prez spot. Kelly from AZ would be a likely guy.

Witmer from Michigan? Maybe but an-all woman ticket might not be warranted.

Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania may be a good call as well. he won huge in his election over a far-right election denier.

  15. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

BA has reported to camp, let’s see if he does a “hold in” like Deebo did.

  16. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Biden was ruled out because of his age. In an ironic twist, Trump now becomes the oldest candidate ever to run for President, I wonder how that gets presented to the voters?

  17. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Yep, he’s drunk uncle now.

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

No word yet if BA is actually practicing. He’s there though.
