RIP Jim Otto

Fuck wordpress.

Had a nice post written about Jim Otto, and fucking wordpress lost it.

Mr. Raider, and one of the original Raiders from the 1960 team, he was likely one of the toughest guys to ever play the game based on the 78 surgeries he endured during and after his playing days. He had so many knee operations that they just eventually cut that leg off in 2007. He nearly died 3 times due to infections stemming from joint replacement surgeries, but through it all he was never down or bitter about the pain and suffering the game brought him.

He famously owned a Burger King an Auburn and could often be found working behind the counter and talking to fans as he worked. Met him a couple times on the many ski trips to Tahoe from the Bay Area.

He was 86 and suffering from Alzheimer’s. He died in Placer County, pretty close to that Burger King. Truly a great Hall of Fame player and man.

He was the toughest football player I ever saw. Al Davis loved him, he was what the Raiders were all about. I was never a Raider fan but no one could ever say he didn’t play the game like it was supposed to be played. I didn’t read the article because I still remember so many things about him. RIP

I loved going to his Burger King as it was stuffed with his and Raider memorabilia from the 60s and 70s.

That’s a great shot of a great player. Bloody knuckles and the classic silver and black unis. They don’t really make them like that any more and yeah, that helmet is bad ass. There was no quarter given in that era of the NFL. That whole team was loaded with guys like Jim Otto. RIP, Mr. Otto.

Double 00 Buckshot Jim Otto hands down one of the greatest Centers of Alltime! Never missed a game even with 2 wasted knees and mangled hands!
God those Raider teams from late 60’s thru 70’s were exciting to watch with more misfits then the longest yard.

Madden would be like I don’t give a shit what these guys do on Saturday night, just be sober and ready to play on SUNDAYS..RIP Jim 00 Otto a true HOF Warrior of the game!πŸˆπŸ™
