Just heard 49er Hall of Fame cornerback Jimmy Johnson passed away at 86 years old. He was hands-down ont hpof the best cornerbacks in NFL history. Teams would routinely just not throw to the right side ever. I saw him play in 1970 (I think) with casts on both arms and he still picked off a pass that game.
Took him a while to get in, but he was definitely deserving of the honor. He was always facing the #1 WR and he would rarely get chances to make plays, but he always seemed to make them when quarterbacks dared to throw on him.
Started his career as a WR and CB, he ended up excelling at the LCB position. His brother of course was Rafer Johnson, star of the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.

On Friday, Sept. 6 the Eagles play the Packers Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. I guess no market is untappable. I wonder who gets screwed out of a home game. Not sure if we are playing somewhere out of the country, but hopefully it isn’t south of the equator.
Soon Elon Musk will be pimping for a game on the moon. Can’t wait for the pre-season extravaganza next year on the South Pole. I’m sure those penguins would be game for some merch. You know, from making money protecting the southern ice wall.

Nice post. Everything the NFL does now is an extravaganza. The only thing about the schedule that interests me is how the road games are situated, how many cross country trips we take, and thurs, Sunday night and Mon. games. I don’t think we get fucked over anymore than other teams but sometimes it is hard on the team. I just wish they would post the dates without making a big deal out of it. Even when I had season tickets I already knew who I was going to see.
Niners are getting two comp pics for next year.
A fifth-round pick for quarterback Sam Darnold’s exit, and a seventh-round pick for tight end Charlie Woerner’s.
Darnold was good insurance, rarely used the Rams game 18 his only start and they get a 5th for him. Good signing.
Man, they are showing the Green Bay Niner playoff game on NFL Network and watching Chase Young get manhandled by WRs is just brutal.
Sad day, just read that Jimmy Johnson died he was 86. One of the truly great 49ers of my youth and beyond. He could do just about everything and do it well. RIP.
Yeah. just updated the post. Very sad. I started really getting into football in like 1968 when I was 6. Saw a lot of his games from 1969 to 1976. Hell of a player. I loved all those guys on those early 70s teams.
Dude was the best cover guy in the league. Unlike Deion, he could tackle as well.

Here’s our 2024 schedule. As usual, we make our yearly trek to Green Bay. No dates, yet, but we have 3 trips to the east coast and 2 to the midwest.
Chiefs, Lions, and Cowboys at home look like some fun games.

read on Roger rosengarten, why did we not do a trade up into middle 2nd for him.
What’s funny is the guy gushes over every pick we made.
Based on 2 weeks after the draft, 2017 was a huge success. All that draft is known for now is the 2 failed 1st round picks, and George Kittle in the 5th.
it is the position choices . Imo Pearsall was overdrafted and ok as our 2nd pick. Rosengarten could have been the #32 or traded down into 2nd.
no ol or wr free agents but cb’s were taken. For me Pearsall and zbs OT such as rosengarten or similar should have been first 2 picks. NO CB. Expensive to 0trade up in 1st. Guyton may not have been a good fit in our system anyway.
Maybe they had bad info and got screwed when the Ravens took Rosengarden. And trading up from 31 to get a guy they really wanted would have cost the 49ers dearly. And EVERYONE knew the Niners were looking to trade up into the top 10. And everyone was asking for Aiyuk. They rightly said no to that.
And I’ve been advocating for line help for the past 6 drafts. But to niggle over these details at this point is pretty fruitless.
They may trade for line help or a vet could fall off a team due to cap constraints.
I hope so. We’ll see.
maybe great fortune will strike twice and something similar to another trade with a Trent Williams 2.0 will pop up
My guess is there was something about him they didn’t care for. this FO has not had real good luck drafting OL’s. Banks is turning into a pretty good choice but his first year was a washout. McGlinchey (sp) was ok but not for the spot we got him at. They let him walk. What we are pretty decent with are WR’s, Petis didn’t work out because he didn’t block. We will regret we didn’t get McCaffrey. IMO
from what little I read about banks he is weak in pass pro and is it wise to give him a big paying 2nd contract after this season. Zakelj is still here for iol.
Don’t know about his pass pro stat but he sure seems to be in the middle of a lot of plays and he blocks downfield.
Not sure if Zakelj is gonna be around for very long.
Banks is turning out to be a solid football player and graded out higher then his former replacement LG Tomlinson last season , one of the reasons besides saving money let him walk.Banks is only 26 just hitting his prime years the 49ers will certainly extend him.Hell he might even be able to slide in to Trent’s LT spot in a couple more years..

just looking at his combine assessments and read enough weekly pff type stats on pass pro to me it looks like he stays OG. These game stats may not be consistent or reliable. He also benefits next to Trent.
if he is average to good Shanahan will likely want to keep him but their lowballing ways with guards may cause him to go elsewhere next year
this is the money year so hopefully he stays healthy and excells this season.
